I think that this is one of the most beautiful and iconic love songs ever written. When I listen to it now, so many years later as a 63 year old recovering romantic it gives me pangs of sadness and melancholy but also brings memories of joy and happiness and love. When I mention it or Prefab Sprout people look at me strangely and mostly say that they've never heard of either. For a few summers and multiple magic moments, this was so much a part of my world. Nowadays, I really only play it occasionally as it can make me sad, remembering things and friends and lovers who are no longer here. I truly love Prefab Sprout.

I’ve known this beautiful song since my teenage years when I first started appreciating Prefab Sprout. Even now, on each subsequent hearing, something new occurs to me. Like how a still relatively young Paddy McAloon wrote this lyric as the melancholic remembrances of a much older man looking back at a lamented romantic interlude. Make no mistake, this man is a romantic poet of some distinction.
My favourite Sprouts song. I've just taught myself how to play this and it now feels even more beautiful knowing the workings of the songs structure. I salute you Mr Mcaloon.
