- Now the deck is done, we move onto the massive job that is redoing the antifouling on Hat Trick. This was a massive undertaking and took us 4 days of sanding to prepare for what was a grand total of 2 hours of painting! 😂😂 But it was definitely worth the work as Hat Trick looks sooooooooo good in our new colour combination.
Hope you enjoy the video, if you did, please leave a like and subscribe for more videos 🙂

#Etap30 #sailingscotland #boatmaintance
..... two maor projects in a row that you can see your accomplishment on completion ... sure is looking good .... applaud you on your choice of face shields as opposed to goggles. Had never thought about it before but think this choice is definitely the ways to go .... thx for sharing .. as always .. never stop dreaming just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans ....
Thank you 😊 we are really pleased with how it's coming together 👍 The face shield is for sure the way to go, as goggles just steam up and don't protect the rest of your skin.
Boat looking really good. Feel your pain, been there many times. Hope to see you on the water on the west coast
Thank you 😊
Must be close to launching ,looking good.
We are definitely getting there 👍
All the cool folks are going to be wearing white tyvek this year - you two are so far ahead of the trend!
Question though - what about the parts where the supports are? Is it a case of having to put in temporary ones while you do those parts? I'd be petrified of getting it wrong and the boat falling over.
Haha we are at the peak of fashion 🤣 we will do those bits when we are about to launch, the boat will go into the slings on the lift and we can sand and paint those bit then 👍
What hard work ! I was going to ask too about the parts where the supports are but see you answered that 😊
Hopefully we won't have to do it again 😂 at least not to that extent anyway 👍🤞
@@joandtim well I’m sure it will look great I guess this is why getting this done professionally is so expensive due to the labour involved? ( not that your not doing a professional job you understand?!! Ha ha )
I suffer from both 1) being naive; and 2) always wanting to take shortcuts or avoid labour altogether if possible. I picked up my 1st boat (a 47 year-old Sabre 27) a few weeks ago. It was on the hard so I took the opportunity to put two coats of AF on her. Her hull was a little bit flaky in small areas (nothing like as bad as HT admittedly) but it never occured to me to ream it all off first; I didn't think it worthwhile outside of a racing context? See what I mean? Naive.
Believe me about an hour into the scraping we wished we had just painted it. Certainly will never remove it all again
mmm, no collection sheet for the antifoul dust...
We had the sander connected into a hoover to collect the dust
Did you apply anti-fouling directly to the prepped gel-coat? What about waterproof epoxy primer?
Just painted the antifouling paint straight on, no primer or anything
@@joandtim Did you consider applying primer? It will be interesting to hear how it holds up, on your next haul out. Did you choose hard or self polishing anti-fouling?
Are you going to put a racing strip on ? 👍🦘
🤣
