Very many thanks to both Jonathan Meades and to the curator of the Meades Shrine for bringing the inspired work of several decades together for an immediate intellectual retrospective of some of the best output of BBC and Channel 4. Thank you.
Wonderful eloquent oddball view of the world which I adore. Has made me look anew at things I thought I knew but obviously now see afresh through the oblique, sometimes jaundiced eye of Mr Meades. Long may he continue to shine his intellect couched in masterfully tortuous language upon the ever seen but not really observed world we all share.
Thanks for the heads up. Nice to know the man himself is approving of this great You Tube site. For me, there are two film makers whose work always provokes a 'drop everything and watch' response. Jonathan Meades and Adam Curtis. There is no else, anywhere, remotely like them with their differing but equally compelling styles. In a often risk averse media, this should be celebrated.
I'm not sure I've yet recovered from the disappointment of the promised 9-DVD box set of JM's work being reduced to just a 3-disc 'Best of' collection - and that was back in 2008! Normally I hate presenter lead documentary, preferring, for example, the contemplative narration only documentaries that I watch on German telly, but in Jonathan Meades' case I make a very definite exception.
@MrJohndeM I believe the book is scheduled to be released in the next few months. If you visit the website (links in video description) you will find more details and some interesting purchase options. I am not associated with the book or the publisher, just a fan. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
If you think all we had left were pseudo-cool kids presenting the words of their parents as their own (such as Prof Cox pretending to be Carl Sargon) then read Museum without walls. Best book I've read in 10 years. Even reading the TV scripts added to the programs. Informative, educational and entertaining.
Yes, thank you Jonathan, I've wanted you to do something like this for years.

Happy to see that he approves of this brilliant channel.

Thank-you to Meades Shrine and to Meades himself, one of the finest public intellectuals ever to appear on British tv.
A brilliant wordsmith. My vocabulary goes up everytime I hear Jonathan
Thanks Meadeshrine! It's great that you that Jonathan himself acknowledged your efforts, too.
This is truly incredible.
"Letchworth's dreary legacy" is something that I have to live with every day :D
I'm subscribed....and I spent my youth in South Croydon...I cannot wait.

Yes. Thanks to you both. Wonder if Jonathan has a copy of the illusive Severn Heaven lynig around? :)

"What to do with Anglican churches".
70's disco.
@Tohellwithoursouls Yes Bragg has become so rude to his contributors on In Our Time that I won't listen anymore. And of course Meades is brilliant.
I may be forced into buying this to find out about the joys of South Croydon. Irony? Amazon say it's not released yet.
Could we not afford to get Mr Meades a proper mic.
I live in Taunton.Sorry.
