  • 2020 Yamaha YZ250FX Bike Build: www.rockymountainatvmc.com/Sa...
    Yamaha introduced the YZ250FX in 2015, taking proven elements from it's motocross brother in the YZ250F but adapting them to make a bike suited more for cross country and GNCC style racing. In 2020 the YZ250FX received it's first complete update with improved internal engine components, better ECU mapping adjustability, along with a revised chassis. The bike felt great from the factory and instantly made TJ comfortable, but some changes were in order to better adapt this bike to fit his riding preference and style. So tune in and take a closer look as TJ goes over everything he's done to make this 2020 Yamaha YZ250FX his own.

    Thank you TJ for showing your bike build. I have noticed that the Tusk brand has really taken off the last few years with really great quality parts at a good price point. The hoses are really nice. FWIW, I put Flex Bars, ASV levers, and Fasst foot pegs on all my dirt bikes. Good job and the bike looks really nice!!

      Phil Ward with rad caps and thermostats it’s weird, on any male or model with any brand of part, it seems like the failure rate is about 50%+, I check new ones to make sure they work or I return them immediately for an exchange. It’s crazy that it’s like that, but that’s what I’ve noticed.

    RMC is my go to place for parts. I love their how to videos, and especially loved their 5 miles of hell series, awesome. However, many of us out here have 15+ year old bikes and use RMC to keep them running so we can keep riding. Furthermore, with presently 17 million people out of work I think it is rather decedent to buy a new bike and then spend $2500 more to "upgrade it". Just my 2 cents worth.

    I liked seeing a "trail" bike get some love. Not much else to do to an FX to make perform better. Basically shave weight (makes me question the Flex bars bc of this) and add protection. Maybe upgrade shrouds too, to help you squeeze with your knees. Other than that, this guy covered most everything. Hard to improve near perfection!!

  • @SoSlo2
    @SoSlo2 4 года назад +2

    Very surprised radiator braces weren't at the top of the list for protection. One of the first upgrades I did on my 250fx as the radiator mounts are well known to be about as strong as an empty coke can. Otherwise, love the build. Congrats on an excellent bike!

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  4 года назад +1

      The Bullet Proof Designs radiator guard is super tough and protects the radiators very well. Which one did you go with on yours?

    • @SoSlo2
      @SoSlo2 4 года назад

      @@rmatvmc BPD makes some great products. No doubt about that. I have the Devol braces + guards on my '15. The braces tie back to the frame to add additional rigidity. When I first purchased my bike, it didn't have the braces and one of the radiators was bent in at the inside mounts. I was able to bend it back and the braces have kept it there. Braces are usually the first recommended mod in most of the 250fx groups and forums as the weak mounts are well know for bending relatively easily.

    Just a word of advice for you since you mentioned you had thumb surgery. I would lift you levers until they are nearly level. I noticed your levers are pointing quite low.. what that does is put so much strain on your thumbs, especially under heavy braking … you’ll also feel every bump and it’s very dangerous for big jump landings.. in some countries that made it a law to level out the levers in super cross to avoid thumb injuries and also horrific wrist injuries 👍🏼
    Try it .. you’ll get used to it and you won’t need that absorbing handlebar either 😎

      Hey Paul, the 2 maps that I have used the most are the MX power feeling map and Keefer's smooth linear (slippy) map. I use the smooth linear map most of the time I'm riding single track, especially technical rocky trails and also when the moto track gets a little too much water and is slippery. I use the MX power feeling map pretty much everywhere else (moto tracks, turn tracks, hill climbs and sand). - TJ

    It’s funny now that I own a ‘17 250FX, I’m wondering why you guys went with the Tusk fan over the GYTR? If you guys went with the front rad guards then figment shouldn’t be an issue

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  4 года назад +1

      That's a good point. The GYTR fan would have been a great choice as well, but the Tusk fan allows for more temperature adjustability, a larger shroud for better cooling and of course it is our brand, so we wanted to spread the word about how our universal fan will fit on just about any bike that has a battery. I have been running the "MX power feeling" map, and Keefer's "smooth linear (slippy)" map. I agree, this bike is so much fun to ride! I am honestly faster on it than I was on my 450 and it feels so much lighter and agile. Just typing this makes me want to go riding. - TJ

      Jason Naughton Oof, $400 for the Mako 360? Just for the bar mount??? :(

      @@chrisw7642 that's the mount and all the polymers.. Look up the reviews. I've had mine forever and love it plus its way way lighter and less cumbersome than flex bars. Flex bars are old school now. There's a reason no pros are running them. Just food for thought 👍

    Your frame guard is not installed properly ruclips.net/video/TbRHd5cnePk/видео.html . It should go behind the kick stand. You have to loosen the hex bolt and slide the frame guard behind it.
