Holly shit that is true i was tight when he reviewed it on fairly when it came to paint because if you look at mp10 and ms optimus they have the same amount of paint application lol

I wonder if toy companies would make as much money if they released the premium version first, and then brought in the unpainted "budget" version in later for $20 cheaper.
Maybe not, but I agree that releasing a premium painted version a few months later isn't a customer-friendly practice.
Eh, I prefer the original version. Parts of this deco look alright, but as an overall paint scheme it looks weird on what is designed to be a more "cartoon/anime accurate" Prime.
Im surprised people with 3d printer haven't done the adapter for this.
They maybe working on their own since their Legends scale figure was shown with one. Selling the trailer separately would also lower costs and see how many would need to be made.
I hope TE 01 would get a metallic version too
I like elements of both MS and TE, I like the MS bot mode articulation, bulkiness and overall design, the head sculpt, however I really like the internal design of the matrix chamber on TE and I prefer clean look of the bot mode from the back (not a massive thing) and the vehicle mode of TE. Both are improvements on a now old MP10 mould, but I’m not dropping near on £350 on Takara Prime
I got the original MS-01 which I love and this looks great again just like the white version. The detail on the inside legs and the head look exquisite. Man I wish I could buy them all.
Only thing I like more over the TE is the legs on the MS. I like the open vents like the MP10 had. Think think it looks better.

I think the original matte finish gives the MS Optimus Prime a very unique look, this looks more generic.
I ordered this version. I like the mold, specially the face sculpt. The finish is actually what stopped me from buying the first version of it.

I'm very conflicted about whether to buy - I love Magic Square and, had I known this was coming, I'd've waited but I'm not sure I can justify buying a second one...
This is the best looking one. Unless they do a toy accurate deco. Then I'd lose my mind.
If they make a toy accurate version i think the head should be remolded and yellow eyes added

The problem with the trailer is that it's already sitting slightly too high on the cab (See 12:00). Add an adapter to that, raising the front of the trailer further, and it's going to really look wrong.

I actually like the pastelish colors of the initial release way more than the metallic version. The only reason I'd even entertain the idea of picking this one up is because I can't find any decent versions of the original from a US seller

Kinda wish they did the paint like the Magnus figure. The face looks a little off with the metallic.
I have TE Prime. Grey strip on the back of the arm just bugs me on the MS Prime.
I have the original I’m glad I got him not enough of a change to buy again but I will get the black and white versions
This one looks nice - think I might need to ditch the MP10 KO and get this.
I prefer this deco but I already have the original. It would've been nice if they mentioned they were doing another version when they released the initial one. I'm not mad I knew what I was buying, but I won't be an early purchaser of their next release.

I'm one minute in, totally agree with your logic. Looks like, this time around it works out for me personally though, since I really have been on the fence with these two third-party Primes. As good as the reviews have been, I've resisted the height because I don't really see a logical need in my collection for either of these guys, seeing as I have to pay a combiner price for the upcoming official Prime. However, I have, of course, so, if the rest of your review says this is now hands down the best ever, I might just have to go ahead and order it now.

I'm confused. I just got the MS-01X Light of Freedom Metallic version, but it's quite different. The red is a metallic cherry red with a gloss finish, and the legs lack the two-tone detailing. :/

And, now that I'm near the end of the review, I don't like how the red still looks plasticy. I want it to look like metal, but that red still makes it look to me like a mainline Hasbro toy. Is it different in person?

Give us the painted version day 1, end of. I bought the TE one as I hated the finish on the original MS one, this looks amazing. Not sure whether Iwant to fork out for another prime now tho. also why didn't they paint the forearm details yellow on this one?
I am glad you did not like it, because now I am not tempted to get one. However the bulky proportions may work very well as a Nemesis Prime, so I am looking forward to a review of the black repaint.

The red on your copy looks like a matte red instead of a metallic red. Is it just the lighting or that version of the metallic edition? I got my copy yesterday and the red is super metallic and shiny, almost a chrome red if that makes sense
I am not really sure I dig this paint scheme... well, still good to have so many choices. But, I'd rather if they made some slight improvements to the mold instead of milking it with 3 diff repaints, but I dig that approach as well :p

Why is his axe head not the right way he cant do anything with the sharp part up words that is not right the sharp part should be facing down so that its a slashing motion not a up words motion so you dont know how a axe works the figure is amazing the articulation is fantastic 👍
Dont you guys think its possible that MS mightve liked the matt the best (I personally do too), made that one, and as soon as they saw the matt one sell so well but the matt being a point of contention they decided to immediately crank out every possible variant at once like they are doing now...I feel like if theyd really wanted to screw over people they wouldve been better off spreading out the repaints over a longer period of time without saying anything about it upfront but thats not what they're doing.
But who knows, for all I know they could be in money trouble with chinese mafia and need more money RIGHT NOW or something similar haha xD

Well, the transformation still doesn't look fun...but unlike the Transform Element one, it's just the right height in relation to MP36. (TE01 is a smidge too tall)
Instead of wasting the funds on doing these "premium" repaints that should've been the main release to begin with, they should've either made an adapter for compatibility with the MP10 (and possibly MP44) trailer, or better yet, made their own bloody smurfin' trailer. Shouldn't be that hard to do...if you're gonna go for a screen accurate Optimus, *GO FOR IT PROPERLY*, don't go halfway on it.
I will have to go back and look at the original toon, I didn't realize Prime was metallic. Oh, and the TE Prime looks awkward. I think I will stick with the original Magic Square
i was never happy about the paint on the original version, i said it looked too dull, but i think i'd have liked it to have had a glossy red and blues, this version looks perfect and had i known there would have been another version with better paint, i'd have just waited. thats really shitty, will i be able to sell the original? would anyone want it over the metallic version?

This and the original MS looks really good...buuuuut. I have the TE and it is cartoon perfect. When my nerds come over they can't believe it actually transforms. They think it's a model.

Ugh...if I could kitbash the Magic Square and the TE Primes... I like the new paint on this one, very cool. Although, I also really like the matte cartoon finish. Ultimately there is still more I dislike about the MS than the TE though. On the MS, the arms are a little weird and the whole back part in truck mode looks awful to me. WAY too thick. TE on the other hand doesn't have as good articulation and that head (to me) looks terrible. Give me the MS head on the TE body and we will have perfection. Which is probably what Takara's new one will be at 3 times the price it should be.
I'm really really pissed off about this product behavior by MS I likely won't buy anything from them again, yes I like my extremely hyper too toon chalky version, mostly because I love his dimensions and bulk, I personally feel that they nailed the sculpt for a perfect but not boring version of g1 anime OPTIMUS. But I am like u Ben, ill w/cancer &on a budget so these lowbrow tactics by all the companies so infuriate me. I wouldve much more preferred this metallic painted one in this Same Mold, I think what Fanstoys KFC/XTB have done is a little different from this MS&Takara Hasbro doing it. I honestly can't afford these abusive financial games by these overlords of my fandom. I won't support magic Square anymore no matter what I love by them.ps I had already ordered the ultra Magnus b4 I saw images of this great figure, so pissed.
I'm pretty upset by this too, while I like my original version I would've prefered this one. They could have at least mentioned different version was in the works. It's not like this came out a year later either like the Maketoys Prime, this is hot on the heels of the 1st release. I truly like the figure but I think I'm done with Magic Square too honestly.

Contentious opinion time: I think this looks worse than the original deco and neither is a patch on TE-01. The butterfly joints on the arms look silly, the 'ab crunch' completely destroys the sculpt, the proportions are weird, as is the head/face sculpt... It looks like a re-tooled MP-10. Glad I had the patience to pass MS-01 and wait for something better, or I'd be having serious buyers remorse now.
