Thank you - as a moderate level jazz pianist - stride has always alluded me - this breaks it down into wonderful simplicity - i will try to practice this - and incorporate it into my playing .......
I did. You are a very great player. I was on the road last century - playing clubs - rock, funk & soul .... transitioned to much more jazz over time - and have been lucky to perform with many of the great jazz musicians in the S F bay area - i kick left-hand bass on many gigs - doing funk/soul and many different levels of jazz material - i have always been in awe of stride - (grew up listening to fats waller, Art Tatem, - Earl Garner, Dave Brubeck ) (thanks mom). But too lazy to figure out stride - Your videos are always laid out very well - great presentations - thanks! I may never master the stride style - but respect it very much.
Hi, I'm actually a jazz guitarist but I've always wanted to play jazz piano and that simple stride technique is as well as your more recent walking baseline bluesy piece is what I am after. My question is in what key do you play the improv on top and what scales are you using?
Thanks for your demonstration. It really helpful ! Furthermore, what if the 7th / 9th put if play in stride ? That will be great if you can give us some insight. Thanks !!
What are the chords you use to finish off the intro piece? The ending is so nice, it cuts out! I know it ends in a little 2-5-1.. but the part leading up to it I can't make it out.
He’s using a lot of chord tones and some bebop/chromatic stuff in there! There also some other cool little elements he uses like octaves and even a sharp 4th at one point with a B natural at 4:51 which sounds awesome!!
Yeah I'd love to but the internet is so shit where I live in the UK so it ends up being really bad quality. I'm working on improving it so hopefully I can do some live streaming soon 🙂👍
This is an excellent tutorial, Simon! I have always wanted to know how to play "stride" piano. Thank You!
This is what iam looking, great content again thank you
No problem! It's my pleasure 😃
Really cool progression! Good job Simon!
No worries, glad you liked it! 🙂
Its been a long time since i've seen one of your uploads. I like that you teach in a simple way, you taught me a lot since way back 3 yrs ago
Glad to have been able to help you over the last few years! Thanks for hanging around for so long 🙂🙏
That was also the day I lost my mom. 3 yrs ago. So i started learning piano to distract myself and i saw your channel that time.
You are an excellent teacher
Thank you for your dedication and for providing these free lessons!
No worries - it's my pleasure!
Great lesson - Thanks!
When you explained the simplicity of this technique I instantly feel in love😍 with the technique of course🤣

Its such an excellent tutorial which sounds awesome... Thanks for sharing...!! 😊 😍👍👍
My pleasure 😊
What did you do with the right hand, please?
Interesting ! Thanks for the tip.
No problem! 😁
Thank you so much! What do you call the technique that you played with your right hand? Or was it random? How to make it sound cool like you played?
I was just improvising over the top, that's an entirely different topic but I have plenty of videos on improvisation!
Absolument merveilleux !
nice loved it.

Your great 🙏🙏
Could you possibly do a tutorial about Dance / House music?
Not really what this channel is about dude! I'm sure there are some awesome RUclips channels who teach about that kinda stuff 🙂
Sometimes, you just wonder who was that one person who disliked the video.
Haha I'd love to meet them all 😂😂
Oh yeah ! So true !!
Relly nice! But one question: How did you come up with the blocked chords in the right hand in your last improvisation?
Thanks for your demonstration. It really helpful !
Furthermore, what if the 7th / 9th put if play in stride ?
That will be great if you can give us some insight. Thanks !!
The 7th is normally used when playing stride but this is just a simplified version so it doesn't include the 7th 🙂
Can we have the sheet music for the intro pls? it was awesome!!
Yes it was - that’s what i’m going to try to play!!!
I break down the intro in this video: ruclips.net/video/x8J9CzSXrUE/видео.html
@@Piano_Pig yooo u are absolutely amazing! Ty so much
Wait no i mean the little improv at the beginning😁

what scale are you using for the solo? great video as always

But in short, you can pretty much just think about it as if he’s using the F major/D minor scale to solo :)
Good Afternoon Si,froma sunny Teesside, stay safe and sound
Thanks Steve! Much appreciated 🙏
What’s your piano frequency
ARE YOU EVER GONNA STREAM LIVE OR SOMETHING
Yeah I'd love to but the internet is so shit where I live in the UK so it ends up being really bad quality. I'm working on improving it so hopefully I can do some live streaming soon 🙂👍
how do you keep such a steady tempo when doing this/improvising over it?
Good practice!
*so I'm guessing you can solo using the Bb major scale and Gm scale?*
This progression is in F major so you'd want to use the F major scale, or D minor, or D minor pentatonic 🙂
Love your improvisation at the beginning! Could you please write the entire progression please? FM7 Eb7 D7...
If you teach me how i love you friend
I sort of want to play poker now.
I don't find that easy to reach at all. I have to play it 5 > 4+1 sucks
Ugh, marry me already
Let's do it! 😉
