Most underrated guitarist of all time. Buck Dharma.
I loved this song since I heard it in my teens. I am in my 70s now and it is more meaningful than ever.
Your body may be 70+ but you mind Is still 18. 🎸
I'm there too!
We'll all meet the Reaper
.
This old Soldier stopped fearing the Reaper many years ago!
Me too
Even after 40+ years listening to this song, it still does it for me. Brings back good memories. It's the best ever.
What feelings does this song evoke in you?
I second that what does it evoke I get it tho
Especially the 1981 live version, without cowbell. I grew up on the original, but never realized cowbell was a decision error. It made a phenomenal song merely great. The 81 also has a legendary extended guitar solo.
I was 24 when I first heard it now Iam 74 loved it then love it even more now!!
this will probably sound a bit ridiculous to most reading this, but i never realized how talented BOC's lead guitarist is..
Buck Dharma is one of the most underrated rock guitar players of all time
And songwriter
No it’s not ridiculous. I’m glad you noticed. For some reason Blue Öyster Cult are ignored by the mainstream rock community. They are the Innovators of American heavy metal.
@@salvatoredebella4502 yep easily the most underrated rock band thats actually popular. everyone only knows this song haha nut they have a dozen albums of nonstop awesome. When I was a kid it was all about the Black & The Blue... Black Sabbath and Blue Oyster Cult. 2 of the most important rock bands ever to grace the earth.
cant wait for the new album!
When the guitar starts play, he dominates. No one could mess with him. The king of the masterpiece.
Long live the mighty Buck Dharma❤
Everytime he plays a solo his healthbar starts to become visible.
Very tight even after all these years, great song😊
How on earth is he not considered one of the best guitar players ever is a mystery to me
The lead guitar not only cooks but comes at you like an absolute Flamethrower.
Gotta love Buck. The most unintimadating person with the most POWERFUL guitar playing.
A friend of mine, went to over 100 shows and meet Buck before every show. I met him a couple times... Being around him one can tell he's a star .... One can just feel it...unintimidating? Maybe to some but to me he's a legend so I was in shock most of the time even though I met him several times he just had an air about himself that was special. Not a jerking anyway total class act
Always good old Memories...!!! I,m from GERMANY,Born in 1960,so now 62 YEARS old...but this is Epic Rock and i got the Single-Vinyl at Home and Never Sale this MASTERPIECE OF ROCK...NEVER EVER !!! GREETS FROM GERMANY 🇩🇪 GRÜßE AUS DEUTSCHLAND 🖤❤️💛🇩🇪🎼🎸🎤🥁🤟
God bless Canada 🇨🇦
Hello, i am from France, I discovered this group when i was in Minnesota, Duluth, in a family. They gave a concert in Colorado. I listened to this song. When i found them thanks to you tube, what an emotion after 40 years !
Gorgeous guitar playing. Underrated
We'll be able to fly
29 strings! Wow! I love when the cowbell returns to song. Superb final solos on guitar. A true rock classic.
god's holy trousers! Roeser is the best! I am the proud owner of many BÖC vinyls, 40 years a fan.
Cheers from Brazil!
This is to be played at my memorial when they scatter my ashes.
Me too
Simply one of the best songs EVER &
Love his grin all the time! ❤
This is how music is played...
Absolutely we are blessed with the Blue Oyster Club..
Cult*
Haven't seen this version before, but loved it. Buck wringing the neck off his guitar and loving every second of it. Great job from Moe too 👏
This is the BEST live version of DFTR that I have ever heard....OMG, these guys are TOTALLY JAMMING!!! You can lose yourself in a song like this...I HAVE!!!!!! Complete guitar jam!!!!!!
calm down ... LOL
Awesome 🤩
I agree about a complete guitar jam. It was the first hard rock riff I learned back in the 1980s. I prefer when it is the five band members of up there instead of the extra voices and musicians as here. Maybe the additional musicians are from a supporting band. Anyway, I prefer less instruments and voices where we can also hear Eric singing, such as this one.
ruclips.net/video/m-4G18t5se8/видео.htmlsi=amLcEUSQb4A8F_Bl .
That guitar solo ...FIRE "!!!!!! PURE PERFECTION.. 🦋
Guy can swing an axe!..
Buck Dharma one of the best song writers and guitar players ever in one of the best bands ever !
Simply one of the greatest rock-n-roll songs of all time ... nuff said ! :-)
I was on the graduation committee and we wanted this for our class song in 79, so I went to ask the principals permission. He Screamed, "NO absolutely NOT, no way! Is that CLEAR"! I'll never forget it! 😄😄✌💕🎶
Same reaction in 1980 to Another Brick In the Wall
@@dogtaxi812 That's great! "Hey, teacher, leave them kids alone 🎶".....
Only because the song was so miss understood
Your Principal wasn't the most progressive!
If you all like this watch the RUclips video of this from 1981 with the extended lead guitar. It’s is absolutely killer !!!
Five guitar players, two drums, and an organ. 😁❤️✅ Buck doing the
singing and playing that guitar 🎸 like its nobodies business.
Only the Greatest Song performed by the Greatest Band. Seen these guys 8 times in concert. On Tour forever!
That thay recorded I learned many of unheard of there songs I I wonderd why aren't these radio djs playing these songs later Montrose taught me all about the record industry and promoting I must say it's a real cut throat thing the record company is cheaply cheating there own bands nice way to not promote there own bands I was stunned how many boc songs didn't get the airplay thay so much deserved
Shit man excuse my grammar but I saw them in Oakland s day on the green in 74 and they blue away the other major big named bands thay trueley sounded so tight it was sick I had just before the concert heard lots of b.o.c. songs my road manager played it was nuts we stayed up for 3days listening to everything
I'm not trying to one-up-you...8 times is great. I saw them at BB Kings in Times Sq awhile back @ 2005, and Eric Bloom gave credit a guy in the audience who had seen them something like 280 X. He said " We can't can't get rid of this motherf..." Very funny. What a band !
@@richardk6659 Yeah, these guys definitely have a 'cult' following! Back in the day, they would play small venues under the name 'Soft White Underbelly'. Only their hardcore followers knew this and would show up. I brought my 7 year old Daughter to see them at Slim's in San Francisco in '97. She is 32 now, and a fan herself. Thanks for the story about the super fan. 280 concerts, WOW!
This song was released 17 years before I was born and it is still my favourite song ever written
💀
Way better than the new crap.
It was released 1 yr before I was born, and your right..its one of the best ever written
Welcome to the club.
Apparently, you have excellent musical taste! My favorite song as well, and I was 16 when this first aired! Timeless!
My God this is music!! one of my favorites band ever!! this song is a masterpiece!!
Buck plays with such ease these days.Great song, great band. Definitely underrated in their hayday.
This song rocks. I can play this all day 😮
After all these years Don't fear the reaper. Fear of God much more. Thank you gentlemen and scholars
I remember my buddy of mine, playing a tape of this song, back in the early 70's. It blew my mind.
Both guitars played off each other fabulously... Buck.....the most underrated guitarist in Rock history! Imo the best version of this song anywhere... These guys had great chemistry and the extra guitar with the different lead was fantastic..
I wouldn't say that he's underated by any means. All rock guitarists know and respect Buck Dharma ( Donald Roeser) as a great player and song-writer.
@@richardk6659 yeah but how many average joes actually know him? very few
Blue Oyster Cult was the loudest live concert ever. My ears rang for three days.
Try Cheap Trick. 😵💫😵💫😵💫
Buck and Eric are carrying the torch for the Amazing Blue Oyster Cult, one my biggest influences. I am fortunate to have opened a show for them in 1989 at Toad's Place in New Haven CT. I connected with Buck and he was very gracious as anyone knows that has met him. I have since spent some time with him after a couple shows and at NAMM. He is a very underrated guitarist musician and so is BOC.
Three guitars and a bass, that’s wicked!!
Lots of people are part of this song it’s just fantastic!!
Love music so much!!
My most favorite Rock song of all time. It instantly grabs you, takes you places, then puts you in a musical trance with the lead, all drug free. The lead sustain still gives me the chills every time I hear it.
Absolutely 💯percent yr right there my friend , it's out of this world , , just the best
Yip me too
That ending way amazing
I'm glad I experienced my formative years during this time when there was so much good original music.....all different, and on the radio! I was in my car yesterday, and flipped through the FM dial. It's wall to wall sh*t.
BOC were my very first band that I saw live when I was a young teenager.
1977 (maybe 1978....it was a long time ago) at DeMontford Hall, Leicester, England.
Great gig and musician-ship, and my ears ‘whistled’ for three days afterwards.
Fantastic memories! 😁
They did a UK tour around May 1978 it was probably that one ... Reaper got re-issued on 12 inch & went massive that Summer in the UK charts.
Wow, I’ve just posted another reply on here, I saw them live in 1978, at Hammersmith Odeon, must have been on the same tour, I was 17 years old, my first ever live concert.
That was a great version of a song I've heard them play a 1000 times. Fantastic
What feelings does this song evoke in you?
amazing as fresh as the first time i heard it in 1977 the band look to be having a great time music at its best
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SONG!!!! EVEN THOUGH I WAS 3 WHEN YOU WROTE THIS.... 76???? WOW EMOTIONS. Just flow....
Your a youngster.
I can't calm down!!! BEST FRICKIN JAM!! come on friend!! this is what concerts are all about.....If you can't feel this. Then you are NOT A JAMMER!!!
This song sounds good live even today
Great live version, still and always will be my all time favourite song followed by a close second: Boston 'More Than a Feeling'.
What a piece of music every time I listen to this is awesome !
Incredible guitar work .Can't get much better
Unique treasure of a song, and those guitars!
So very well done guys a real classic re visited!
Drove down from Vancouver to the Kingdome in 85 , BOC , Foreigner and someone else , was a great show , left that night feeling amazed how good they were .
Dark thought-provoking lyrics and spectacular guitars. I love this song and I love boc
Greatest American Rock Band
Can listen over and over!!!
I first saw BOC at a Day on the Green show in Oakland way back in 78. Agent of Fortune for life.

😂
This is my number one song of all time, above stairway to heaven! It still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. Live is best, cause you get the big guitar solo at the end which is exactly what the song needed to make it perfect. I play guitar and I love playing with the video with my electric, heavily distorted through my multi-digital effects pedal to a Peavy 250, Sheffield equipped amplifier. The rift is strikingly simple but is deceptively hard to master, at least for me anyways. It took a couple of years till my playing by feel as part of the instruments I play, became part of my musical soul. The main riff is melodious and hipnotizing at the same time. Again it's so simple that it's basically the top 3 root notes of simple 1st position chords, Am, G, F, G. Music and actually playing music makes me and the world a little better, I know that for a fact. It cleans the soul !!!!
Yeah goosebumps. Me too everytime.
Powerful guitar song. Always great live.
OUTSTANDING!! ❤👍👍
I DON'T KNOW WHY I GOTTA CHILLS IN MY SKIN THIS IS ESENCIAL CLASSIC ROCK...24 KILATS...GOLD...🌟🌟🌟🌞🌞🌞🌜🌜🌜💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
And no, it does NOT need more cowbell. This is a masterpiece!
It actually sounds to me, like it has more cowbell... it's pretty dominant in the mix.
This is one of my all-time favorite songs, but that sketch is hilarious. I love it with and without more cowbell.
@@jakurdadov6375Every so often I dig it up here on youtube and LMAO😂
Lovelovelove how they exploded into the solo section! Well played.
It is a crime that Blue Oyster Cult is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Joan Jett is.
such a huge crime
If she had a 1/20th of BOC's talent she'd be lucky. Then there's Janet Jackson ....
This is all time amazing!! Hell yeah!!
Great BOC! Great song! The sound of this guitar riff (three chords) accompanied me for the last 40 years. This kind of music stays forever.
How are they not in the rock Hof, it's beyond Insanity
Yes it is.
One of my favorite tunes being played by some of my favorite artists!
Canons all along the song, together with guitar solos, make this music an unique piece
I’m 64 and still feel this like I used to. Yea?
Oh yeah, cowbell is just right ! These men are rockin' the Jam.
Beautiful to witness.
BUCK D. IS ONE OF THE BEST GUITARIST EVER.BOC WILL ALWAYS BE ONE OF ROCK,s BEST BANDS EVER.😎🎸🔊🎶☮️🎼 BOB.
Some things don't wear out like memories, they will outlive us and that is the legacy to say "we were here before you"!
I just never seen someone so happy to sing a song called "Don't Fear The Reaper" lol
2 great bands, love this JAM. Totally Awesome..!!!!!!! Rock On
Buck just destroys it on this track! Saw BOC live a few years back and thought the new members were totally rock star worthy, too.
They have had quite a few players with them throughout the years...and they absolutely have to be top shelf.
Something hypnotic about those vocals.
As someone who is facing death, i find this song soothing. I'm not afraid of dying but scared of the process and pain. Not just for myself but for friends and family. I'm more concerned for them than myself.
My heart goes out to you Laura, I pray for you to be comforted and to know that when the time comes, when you close your eyes, in a blink you will find yourself welcomed to a place of unimaginable joy and life as it was meant to be from the beginning.
@Matt Bush Thank you, Matt. Your kind words make me happy. Now I think I'll dance like no one is watching.
My heart and soul are with you.❤
DITTO
So sorry Laura. I wish I knew what to say to bring you comfort!! I lost my sister 3 years ago. She had lupus. I just told her I am here for you and love you forever!!! Take care!!
UNDERRATED GUITAMANSHIP. BUCK IS AMAZING PURE MUSICIANSHIP AT HIS MUSICAL TRADE.😎🎸🔊🎶🎼☮️ BOB.
Immer noch einer meiner absoluten Lieblingssongs mega❤❤❤❤
I note a different key probably to suit the singers. Really nice harmonies, especially given a live setting. Absolutely Classic song. Great stuff guys. Amazing extended improv. Would have been great to see you guys do this live. Thanks.
BOC has so many amazing songs
Buck Dharma is pure genius
Buck is the Supreme Being.
man he killed it on the guitar nasty guitar player 🤟🤘🤘
1981, Nashville, stage set up on Riverside drag strip, night time after races. 5 beers and my first quaalude. This music. I'll never forget.
One of these iconic songs, just like Stairway to Heaven or Smoke on the Water....
My dog, decades ago, always started to howl like a wolf, if he heard the guitars of the original version. But only to this song and version.
Really love the use of the sustain and feedback on the guitar 🎸
This is STILL SO DAMNED ROCKED OUT! YASSSSS!
Best solo ever of this song
Don't fear the reaper is a soothing song that gets into your head and stays there. It's the best song of its type which there is no name for.
Allen Lanier reminds me of Rev. Jim Ignatowski from the TV show Taxi in the back there,RIP Allen Lanier your talent lives on with your legacy. This band needs to be inducted into the RNRHOF with Styx,Ted Nugent,Iron Maiden,The Cars, Pantera and so many awesome Rockin artists from the decades past. I don't know how many times I have to say it.
I know its all been said before but in my opinion this really is one of the great songs.
Somehow I never tire of this rif
Got my cowbell fix, thanks, guys.
Best cow bell song of all times.
The cowbell never gets old.
Brooooo they shredding lmaf I was want more abd more. They were flying. Like holy Hell
This is absolutely fantastic!
Love this song love Blue Oyster Cult.
Love this song❤❤❤❤
Great Song!!! 2023 still, Awsome talent! Sooooo!Invigorating!!!
Wow, legendary!
They were a multiple guitar band very creative and yes good
Eric Bloom once told a story that his mom did not believe he was in a successful rock band until she saw them play at MSG ..
amazing🥶🥶🥶🥶
