Thanks for uploading. I'm a life long Viking fan from Windsor Ontario Canada. I was at this game. I don't remember much, but I still remember Randle's sack on Batch on 4th down. That was awesome. Man, they should have won the Superbowl that year.
A lot of things made the '98 Vikings one of the best teams ever- maybe the best year of any team that didn't win a super bowl. They were loaded with talent but I think what was the most important part was their offensive line. I don't think I've ever seen an offensive line any better. They were big strong and quick.
It's only 98' but on that Lions first drive Sanders got horse-collar tackled and then Batch got lit up while sliding and none got flags. The league has sure changed, lol!
Wow, the Vikings had a great roster here. Loved Moss converting a 3rd-and-17. 24 years later and I still hold my breath whenever Barry Sanders gets the ball.
98 Vikings is the best team ever. They were jinxed . 15-1 , set all kinds of records. MVP QB, rookie of the year, 1300 yd rusher, 3 wrs with over 80 catches etc etc and we lost because of a chip shot fg against Atlanta. I remember watching that game in literal disbelief
Can't believe Palmer couldn't do a little shake n' bake on the punter. He's the punter!! Thanks for the upload, Funky. I love these trips down memory lane.
@@jamesrobinson8612 No championship. Appearances aren't victories. The Vikes have the most NFL franchise wins without a SB win. So far, jinxed. ...and Drew Pearson pushed off. 🤣🤣🤣
Watching old footage like this makes you realize how predominant horse collar tackles were back in the day. I counted at least 3 just in the highlights.
I feel like this season ruined Denny. He did some good things as a coach after this, but never had the same demeanor. He made a lot of excuses after the 01' debacle against the Giants and he lost his shit in the Cardinals loss.
The Vikings were a runaway express that season. And if there was ever a year when they SHOULD have won a Super Bowl, it was certainly 1998. But they underestimated the Falcons in the playoffs.
This was the first Vikings games I ever went to. The Thunder Dome was electric. Also, I didn't realize Pat and John called the game until watching this.
I'm a Vikings fan and I had absolute respect and admiration for the one great Barry Sanders. Barry was such a dynamic athlete who carried himself with so much professionalism.
1:38-1:41 Old School NFL Baby ! Now a Days they would throw a flag , give 15 and a Fresh Set of Downs along with a warning but honestly we know if he’s a vet he’s ejected , even if it’s 2nd QtR. In todays NFL . It’s that bad , but CTE is real .
The '98 Vikings were so much fun to watch. It's even better with Pat Summerall and John Madden calling the game.
We old time football fans miss those guys! RIP Pat & John!
real football no terrorist lives matter bs..legal to detach the opposing teams qb head from their body..safety being a human javelin over middle of field
Missing ring for that team.
Amen
98 vikings on madden video game was unstopable
Just to hear Pat and John calling the game !!!! Simply the best !!!! Awesome memories!!!!!!
Randall Cunningham low key should've been considered MVP that year
Terrell Davis ran for 2K that year.
Those '98 Vikings were so much fun to watch!

maybe one of the best teams ever not to win a super bowl. One of the best offences of all time.
People forget just how good Jake Reed was.
Until he got a case of the drops
Very true, he was a stud for a long time before later in his career where he got a case of the bobblekins and dropsies

I wish we had that o line today
@1:40 is absolutely a 15 yard penalty today 😂
100%
Probably causes a big skirmish too
no doubt
There's 200 yds worth of today penalties in that 9 minute clip lol.
One of the best offensive lines they ever had
2009, 1976, 75, 70
Glad you've started uploading again! I'd like to request every Everson Griffen sack if you are ever short on upload ideas.
Boy!! That ‘98 Vikings team was damn good!!! Can’t leave it up to the kicker!!😢
It's only 98' but on that Lions first drive Sanders got horse-collar tackled and then Batch got lit up while sliding and none got flags. The league has sure changed, lol!
And back in 98 we were all talking about how soft things had become.
Even worse now

Best team ever? They weren't even the best team in that season.
Broncos would've mopped the floor with them during the SB.
Can't believe Palmer couldn't do a little shake n' bake on the punter. He's the punter!!
Thanks for the upload, Funky. I love these trips down memory lane.
This was when you knew who the best team in the NFL was for sure
“Both teams will be starting backup Quarterbacks” that’s been the entire 2023 season in a nutshell
15-1, set the record for points scored in a season that year, and not even an NFC Championship to show for it. 😭😭😭
Forever jinxed! 😡
I grew up with the Vikings and saw 4 superbowl appearances. So they are not jinxed.

@@midrangetorque I agree with the Pearson comment

RIP Coach Greene who built an offensive powerhouse in MN, and Coach Madden who was a gentle giant.
👍

Hey Funky!! I've missed you pal 😊 it'd be fun to see the OTHER WR1 named Carter. Anthony Carter deserves a highlight reel if you haven't made one yet
Randall Cunningham is Actually SUPER FUN in Madden 24!
This was the first Vikings games I ever went to. The Thunder Dome was electric. Also, I didn't realize Pat and John called the game until watching this.

Only 29 points. Not clicking on all cylinders yet.
That first touchdown by Moss
I didn't know Gillian from Gillian's Island coached the lions back in the day. 😄 Thanks for video. Truely a classic.
1:07 That defensive line should have featured Warren Sapp in place of Derrick Alexander.
He would have put them over the hump.
hell yes funkydunkleman is back baby!!!
My 26th Birthday, I was at this game and had a blast.
Sick upload brother! Fun to watch. SKOL
I miss those days!
Wow, even back then with one of the best running back to ever play the game they could, and did find innovating ways to lose
They should of won it all in 98. There was no chance anyone was beating the rams in 99 and the ravens in 2000
You should do all the '98 regular season games
Oh what a fun year...
If Randall Cunningham signed with Baltimore in 2000 he would had a ring
That's because they had a great head coach
Please upload anything you have from 1998! Thank you!
You know, we might just be okay with this Cunningham guy.
Boy howdy, that Gary Anderson sure is good at kicking footballs.
Do you have the 98 Lions/Vikings rematch from the Silverdome?

I wish we could clone our 1998 O-line and start them for 2023.
I remember John Randle trying to rattle Batch. " Charlie, Charlie"..
I watched a documentary on Charlie Batch and the pain he went through about the murder of his little sister.
I miss the vikings of old.
Perfect timing…Skol 😈
8:44 lololololololololol love it
Curious: do you have all these games on VHS? Crazy deep archive, man-very cool!
I had some tapes from the early-mid 2000s but most of the old games are from other people who were gracious enough to rip, upload, and share.
So many tackles in just the first few plays that are now illegal.
How far back can you go? Early 80’s? 70’s?
I felt like anytime this team scored under 30 in a game they underachieved.
Classic hits
I counted at least 10 plays that would have been flagged in todays NFL. Make football violent again lol
It’s *reins*, not “reigns.”
Actually, in '98, "reigns" was probably just as appropriate!
You gotta feel for Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson. Two HoF'ers talents wasted, bc of horseshit Lions management.
1:39 Defensive player would have been Penalized/Finned and banned in the 2024 NFL LOL
Lions setting for field goals again.
No offensive line, either.
reins*
No truer statement bout Barry oh he loss yards....OHhh SOo what....🎯💯🎯💯🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
Hi R
W.h.o is Simon and Garfunkel? Easy
Remembering how much Batch sucked
Pat Sumerall was completely dead inside on every single play. Most overrated announcer ever.
Dumb comment. Delete this.
