No doubt that the 373 gear upgrade definitely gave noticeable Improvement. I'm thinking with the overdrive transmission would probably be even okay to go to 410 traction lock without being too over-the-top because the overdrive transmission compensate for the extra tall gear. It would be an interesting experiment to see how it worked out
I don't think I'd go that far. I had a 4.3, auto, with Nitrous S10, I stuck a set of 4.10 gear in it and it really sucked on the highway, I eventually stepped it down to 3.73.
Outstanding! Picking up an 01 Executive L tomorrow for $1500. Looks like the L already had 31 spline axles. So 3.73 gears, installation kit, traclok, and aluminum driveshaft are already on my shopping list.
Nice car. I had a Linconl Town Car and it feels really sluggish and I was wondering how it would be with a 3.73. I’d love to watch more videos about acceleration. Thanks.
Love ur channel. Got me from NY to AL change sparks twice oil change every 2500 just changes the transmission filter and some fluid. Fuel filter still shifts hard but 9000 miles in 3 months. NYC drive and interstate. This panther Lincoln is Built Ford Tough
I want to do this but i don't know if I want to be running that high of rpms at highway speeds. I might stick with 3:55. I had those in a P71 I used to have and they still made a heck of a difference over these factory Grand Marquis gears.
Bro im stuck on the samw decision i feel like doing 3.73 to have the best if ima go thru the trouble of changing them but at the same time i would like to keep smoothness on my lincoln and get acceptable mpg
@@carguysnewengland is it a specific one cause I have a 04 town car and I have my gears just waiting to get installed and just seen you said get aluminum shaft
Thanks for informing me on how to terrorize my town car. I want sooo bad to mod this thing, but I'm 65 and kind of enjoying having a decent car for trips and church. I could say how the wife says ABSOLUTELY NOT, but that's only telling me I have to do it. Why did I have to get old so fast.
I can understand the posi aspect of it but why would you want higher RPM on highway? Now I get 21MPG at 80MPH, a higher RPM of the 373 will drop that down to about 18MGP.
I have a 03 towncar mine has a limited slip posi with 3.27 gears, it’s ok but I need more so I just ordered me a 3.73 gear set looking to install it soon. Thanks for the info. Was that a bama tune? Or what was it?
Where did you get the rpm and volts gauge? I’ve always wanted one but have been using my phone but it’s not very practical since it’s way too laggy when using Bluetooth.
Is there any difference in average fuel economy? I want to make the change to 3:73 on my TC. I would imagine city mileage should increase and offset highway milage. I set my cruise for 75 mph anyhow. I have the 3:27 gears and it is just a sled. Great video!
Another thing is you'll need a tune anyway to correct the spedo and shifting. So unless you just correct that you can gain some performance with the tune and further alter the mpg + or - .
Kevin Cruz if you want more dig off the line without shitting up your highway mileage l would look into a higher stall converter with lock up. You'll get torque multiplication off the line and still retain lockup with your current gears and retain your highway mileage. And if you dont sink your foot into it all the time even your city mpg wont be much worst. Just keep the stall speed realistic you dont want a 3000 rpm stall something in the low 2000 range would do nicely for a stock motor.
Iam Fake great question... on a 03+ no... you just need to reprogram your tune for the gear change... it will fix the shift points and recalibrate your speedometer
Actually the Lincoln towncar is corrected by tuner after 98. I had one no spedo gear to change just a vss sensor where it was. The Crown Victoria and grand Marquis were the 03+. I took mine from 3.08-3.55 (crown vic could be down to a 2.73 back then)and full throttle it would hit the limiter and not shift until corrected. Earlier crown vic, mgm and tc also didn't have the extended tail housing a factory equipped aluminum did. So unless aftermarket a steel is 3/4" longer and requires the extended housing or a spacer to maintain the same spline contact patch.
Maurice Goodwin most likely a 28! Some cars were switched to 31 later in the 05 production run though. Best bet is to check but 31 Spline is an upgrade so honestly just replace your axels at the same time
Maurice Goodwin it’s an option if budget is a concern otherwise I’d get everything the 3.73s, the Trac Lok, and aluminum driveshaft. After all why spend the same money on labor setting gears (3.55) up you won’t be happy with?
Hey! Awesome intel and a great Lincoln bro... We are a Rare Breed!!! Lol. I have an 2002’ Cartier... and Sluggish is its Middle name, Any suggestions Brother ? I’m open for all... I’ve had her 9 years and she’s still a Solid Beauty
Free horsepower: just start with a lighter car and automatically have a better power to weight ratio. Not that there is anything wrong with a hot rod Lincoln. Your Town Car weighs right at 4,300 lbs. Too bad your TC is never going to a drag strip
Sluggish, Lincoln Town Cars are strong, frame on body. They're pretty quick. 300 foot pound's of torque. My 95 has 2.72 gears, it's still pretty quick, 10 seconds for 0-60
@@haydenrubly Your 10 second 0-60 translates to a 16-17 second 1/4 mile. I'm sorry, but that is not much of a threat against anything except cars like the three cylinder Mitsubishi Mirage. The only cars that you are winning against in your street driving are those that didn't even know there was a race - or those who just wanted to see you act silly.

these transmissions typically don't like the 410 gears, and it will put a lot of strain on the transmission and make shifting a lot more clunkier

3.73 is a lower gear ratio than stock, not “higher”. So what was the total cost? Guessing like $1,000.

How did it sound after
Any links on the parts list? I bought a j mod kid for firmer shifts. And next on the list is the gears.

About .5 seconds difference
How does the Stability Control affect the Trac Lok?
How do you tune your car to work with the 3:73 gears?? Thinking about swapping my stock 27 as well but hv no clue about the tuning
