In AC4 the friendly ones are more likely to get shot down rather than shooting down, even when they are on a numerical advantage. In AC5, the regular F-NPC is on par with the E-NPC, depending on the mission, they can be more aggressive or more deffensive, Wingman tough, its pretty rare to see them destroying targets, you will usually hear them saying they're picking on a target, and soon after they will shoot, I'd say its a 40% chance to hit, I've counted so far in my campaigns in AC5, 5 kills on Nagase, 3 on chopper, 5 on the rookie and 4 on swordsman. As for PS1 ace Combat games, they work more close to AC7 in this regard, wingman and F-NPC will rarely almost never, be seen shooting down an enemy, rendering you as the only capable force on the game. Although, there is a Mission on AC3 where you compete most kills with your wingman, and some instances yet in AC3 where your wingman do be dependable, AC2 they work more as a relief so not all the enemy comes after you, while on AC1 they'll just go after their own targets, so that will require more observation
