I worked with The Police twice in 1979. They were largely unknown, having a single song on the radio, of course this one. Note the recording engineer hasn’t a clue Andy is singing an essential harmony. By 1980, they were a global phenomenon. It was a dizzying pace.
Copeland is the reason I bought a Tama Imperialstar as my first proper kit back in the early 80s at 13 years old from my first job washing dishes in a restaurant.
@@cmc6112 …two’s company, three’s a crowd ; however despite his arrogance, I doubt they would have had the same success without a singer with such a distinctive voice, song writing ability and the shear drive to succeed. He was talismanic. And he played the bass quite well.
Same. I had to take a trap break to get my live, stings fix. It’s amazing! I could sample about 50 tracks from this for the bros.. 👍🏿… but I won’t touch it! This is too pristine!!
socca blau He is technically right. Pop music used to mean whatever was popular at the time, so anything from Bob Dylan to Metallica have been pop music. It wasn't until the early to mid 90s that the term pop music was actually used as a name for a genre.
Good recovery Mr Summers...after that seventh chord at 0.55 instead of the minor chord it should have been - totally forgiven, what a fantastic performance!

Flew across the country in 2007 to watch a reunion tour show and they didn't play Roxanne. Awesome show, a chilling "Wrapped Around Your Finger," but not Roxanne!
different crowds back then. ha i kinda wish i could time machine to the 80's or 70's to see what its like. being in the 90's and not remember the 90's sucks ha
@@Roonlovesfish3874blows my mind how good the recording is. Such quality is rare these days... Well besides how amazing the band was. A small location... And it was free iirc.
This is the best version of the song!!
Absolutely agree. Fourth time buying this album. Oldest, 6 year old, wants a drum set. Absolutely.
I’m inclined to agree
The rock and roll hall of Fame is my favorite version
mono
The way Copeland hears music and applies his drumming is just so amazing...
You are right, it is but his ass isn’t singing

Saw Sting on the 15th in Houston. Still brings it 100% Great singer and song writer!
Most amazing version of this song.. love the extended portion
I was here in this tiny place and worked, helped catering to the bands. 17 years old....I have many stories good times.
damn fine version.....great vocals by the Stingmeister...
A complete wanker. Copeland and Summers heart of that band.

2:08 // Sting: Right, Stu... //Stewart: Nope...I'm gonna do this yet a while longer :D
When i first heard this in 1979 I was 21. It was great!
One of the greatest song from Police, once of the most exciting group of pop music ever.
dont ever say pop music ever again

@@soccablau9203 Ofc it's pop music. Pop/rock, pop, rock, whatever.
They had catchy choruses, massive success, conventional song structures.
Ladies and gentlemen Mr.Stewart Copeland!!!!!!!
This is what live is kids!!!!!
najlepsze wykonanie tego utworu w JEGO wykonaniu
It was Andy's suggestion that the band be a trio. One great decision.
Dig this with headphones and a bass boost, sounds beautiful c:
The Police are professional musicians.
Definitely. Only weak point is maybe the guitarist. Decent rhythm, but poor lead.
amazing drumming. Great version great band.
Woah I've been waiting for a good live one of my favorite police song. Yessirrrrr.
amazing vocal energy!!!
Stewart with the iconic legendary short shorts LOL
Good recovery Mr Summers...after that seventh chord at 0.55 instead of the minor chord it should have been - totally forgiven, what a fantastic performance!
…hope you also forgave Sting for his wavering voice around 4:02.
I have been trying to identify this version. I have an old cassette I recorded off the radio, I thought it was a bootleg. Thanks!
the best album ever
La mejor versión en vivo , genial
Love it!
Rooooooooooxana

Quando i concerti erano senza i cellulari.. che tristezza oggi...
i remember being in that crowd
....
did you realise at the time the genius in front of you?
Blazed out ,Mind at ease!!!!
great song , greetings from Perú
walking after school to the house. Headphones at full volume.¡¡¡
Where is this concert? God, 1979! Love it ❤

Man he could hit high notes back then
Where's the chorus tho?
greatness
I LOVE THE POLICE AND HD
AT 2:07.... Does Sting Say FACEBOOK? ITs supposed to be 1979!
True! I did mishear that.
Walter Mejia That's some Illuminati shit going on right there.
Walter Mejia he saying right step
Walter Mejia He's saying: play it Stu!
Rigth stuff
different crowds back then. ha i kinda wish i could time machine to the 80's or 70's to see what its like.
being in the 90's and not remember the 90's sucks ha
excelente y en hd ..
Sin duda la mejor versión en new York
Is that a fretless bass? Show-off!
Yep a fretless p bass. Sting played mostly fretless basses on early Police songs. He played upright bass in jazz bands before the Police.
and i loved it ....
For my Roxana - I’ll love you forever!
Keren 🇮🇩🇮🇩
its my song! yay!
Classic
4:02 what do you do sting ? :-D
Those beautiful chords from Andy. Those chords are Roxanne.
Zero dislikes....
Stings voice is so prestige !!
❤
Interesting guitar variations (snd some minor glitches) as compared to the record version
Wish they did the chorus like the record
Right? The chorus is literally the Turkey of the Thanksgiving dinner.
@@yacobz As in everybody wants it but nobody really likes it? xd
Not the best analogy
Man 2:05 - 2:35
How do you do it Stu?
Afroguitarman we dont know ! :)
Los putos AMOSSSS!!!!
This song is better live 😌
I think I have those same socks and shorts that Copeland is wearing....not sure what that says about me...
I’m hopping with the crowd in 2023!😃
Y does the guitar stop around 1:00

mistake i guess
I have this on a bootleg tape somewhere...
5:12-5:19 I love this part
Does anybody know where and when this great Police concert was recorded?
Rock goes to college, Hatfield Polytechnique, 1979.

Que épova Perrin solo police
Добро пожаловать на шоу Стюрда Купленда.
0:56 jajajaj se equivocaron, hasta los grandes se equivocan, son los mejores
Stud to Sting: "it get lost just a little confusing for the fucking bass playing element ..."
Fuck he had some pipes didn’t he
Stewart Copeland was the anti-Neil Peart drummer, but he was also a bad-ass.
6-3〜dunedunedunedunedune
they were trying to figure out what they played. Not Bad GOOD
Is this song considered reggae?
Reggae rock and new wave (early new wave)
Reggae-ish.
Hatfield poly rock!
el coro "you don't have to put on the red light" no es como en el cd ! no lo grita !! csmr esa parte le da energia !!!
At least Stewart uses the proper grip. A sure sign of formal training.
I noticed that. I see few drummers using the traditional grip.
but that could be right too. i mean, maybe he meant to do that on purpose.
Happy fretless days now he is more rif basist no solos les improvise 😐
Sounds so much better when Sting isn't trying to tell Stewart how to play the drums!
By horrible I mean very quiet...until the end part..
Larry Bird on drums
I wish i could live in it too so i'd do many infringements in order to be punish by The Policemen. ^^
Sounds a bit rough to me...
Sounds live
0.55 se equivoco el guitarrista XD jajajja hasta a los grandes les sucede
stew lookin like larry bird lmao
Wow...what a horrible crowd...then again this was in the 70's...
Aquí los que venimos de Tik Tok…
la improvisacion no pasa nada con police enfria la musica
Voce stratosferica di sting , inimitabile
