  • A VHS video recording by myself exploring Puffin Island off Anglesey in 1997. Apologies for the jerky movements and poor quality in part. The video shows a bit from the boat, followed by landing, passing through the undergrowth, an exploration of the monastic settlement and rabbit hunters lodge abutting the old church and then a thorough exploration of the former signal station.

Glad you enjoyed it - it's a fascinating place with so much history. I do intend making a much more edited version now I've got to grips with the software. There are some photos I've uploaded on the nwex website site that you may also be interested in. Thanks for your comments!

If you want to see Puffin Islands buildings this vid is sort of Ok, but otherwise the vid is totally naff, bad camera work, bad foces, bad colour, bad everything, should have been much better, looked rushed by amateurs

Hello Bryn. You're absolutely right - the videography is embarrassingly amateurish. I was a 20 year-old student with my dad's video camera and had never done any filming before. This was 1997 when we were still using VHS tapes to record on. And yes, it was rushed - we had a very small time window before the fishing boat picked us back up. I posted this though as there's next to nothing in the public domain showing the island in the 90's before the elements further degraded the buildings especially the old signal station.

Hi John. Landing on Puffin Island requires a permit from the Bulkeley Estate Office. The only condition was that we made a donation to the Beaumaris lifeboat.
