Pollock by the way. Lovely spot been fishing it for over 20 years great place to take newbies to fishing to show them the basics. Taught my sons there my Mrs and even my granddaughter. You was bang on the spot for wrasse on your first cast only just to the side of bridge support had loads wrasse out but only at high water as current is a bit strong any other time. mackerel rigs work well there too.
Good video Thanks for keeping it real Thats a pollack - worth trying a spinner or lure in those slacks and behind the bridge stanstions - especially on the making tide. Looking forward to the next video Cheers!
John, I really enjoyed the video, well presented. You don't know what a relief it is, to witness your efforts. I have had the same experience, battling the tide, and weed, fishing the slack....in my case with no luck. Even so, it is a great mark to fish, easy access and your video will ensure I give it another go.
Nice little pollock at 7:18 i've fish that mark few years ago with a lure rod and blanked, keep meaning to go back and have another go but never had chance, keep up the good work tight lines
Thinking of getting back into sea fishing think it would be good for the mental health not done fishing in about 30 yrs love your content you keep it real
Haha thanks buddy! I always like to get the bites on camera, I end up recording like 3 hours of footage for a 6 minute video and it takes hours to trim down but as you’ve probably seen in all my videos every bite on the float or tap on the rod tip is there hahaha
Hi john you ok pal, enjoyed the vid again cheers. Getting the next generation involved is so important is'nt it. You managed a small pollock john. All the best mate from Grimsby
Like the video 🙂need to say, One guy in the comments section said holding the rod and striking instantly is best, this is fine for paternoster/ flapper rigs fishing on the bottom; However I find that for float fishing it helps (in my experience) to let them take the float down for a moment or two so that they can try to swallow the bait, and you get a better hook set. AND when you strike, don't strike like the bionic man trying to wrench the fish out of the water, feel for the pressure and then put on harder pressure suddenly and in a controled manner, rather than simply jerking it back and up, this may just pull it out of their mouths, if you are thinking more and not just reflex jerk action you'll probably get a better hook up rate. When they first first take the bait (by my thinking) they may not have it properly in their mouths, having just snatched it, if you give them a moment they can have a second to readjust their hold and take it properly into their mouths. That's what I think anyway. Always worked well for me down in Portreath, Cornwall in my younger days.
He is using a paternoster rig isn't he sinker on the bottom, hook above?. Everyone has thete own ideas I suppose, but in New Zealand we use mainline to swivel. Sinker sliding above swivel, a short 700mm trace with a single recurve hook baited. The sinker anchors it and the bait can move around.
I have left a comment before when you were fishing the breakwater in hollyhead. If you try limpets or other shellfish the bait holds better on the hook. If you combine worm with limpets etc you cant fail. Had many weekends hitting wrasse with a mixed bait on the hook. 8 to 12 inch wrasse all day
Done well off the west side of holly island on holiday a few years ago plenty of wrasse to about 2lb and got absolutely obliterated on heavy gear presumably big pollock,, dont actually know how big the wrasse go there or what else is about,, had no bass tho and put some time in,,,, the marks were South of mackrel point as I can remember,.
Pollack. I've only fished wrasse once in 50 years! Fishing rocks in Cornwall using crab I collected earlier on float gear I had bite after bite and landed a few up to 2lb. I also hooked fish which bent out the 1/0 hooks but didn't land! I also used limpets off the rocks -they were useless!
bloody hell i crossed that bridge and come down same road on the way to the castle same time you where their ! Great spot to fish from.... will have a rod with me next time .
I was in that spot two years ago and using rag and mackerel (on the same hook) took a pair of good sized pollock in the space of five minutes. Same float rig as you.
Little secret. Mackrell feathers loaded with lug worn catch me the most wrass. Done this last 3 times and killed it. I'm never going back. Smaller type feathers are better with 1oz lead.
we use to dig our bait about a mile below the blue peter life boat station that has long gone, we got loads of lug and some masive king rag, i bet that beach has had its guts dug up by now
Great video mate. loving the fishing. Could you do a video for beginners like me on what to look for in regards to slacks and Eddys and where the fish will most likely be ect conditions to look for and such. Thanks again
its a pollock, try spin fishing a westin sommet lure in the evening when they all rise to the surface and if you can get it at highwater sitting slack thats the primetime 👍👍
i think you guys were set up waiting for the tide next to llandudno pier a week or 2/3 back it was Saturday 8-9pm i think i was fishin down at low tide, but really im shit at it, i'd not fished for near on 30years, and it was course i did back then, just got one on me start of the year thought it a good excuse to get down the coast when its good enough to i live in the midlands really, aint no salt water there lol,,,,, as i left i had an electric bike locked to the lamppost where you was setting up, i did think of saying hello but didnt want to look a dick,,,, lol maybe next time
@@GAMEKEEPERJOHN i was fairly sure but, as i say didnt wanna look a dick an i was half pissed, an knacked wanted food so just thought dont look a nob get off but for sure you do seem to go the same places as i so next time i'll say hello
its a pillock fish ahahhahahahahahah the other side of the bridge i am sure you know about the deep hole if the bouy is still there use to catch cod pollock and conger from the swellie side .

If you're missing bites on the float , make sure there's no dangling bits hanging off the hook ( also check the snood length)
Yep another great upload duck, I love watching the float...find myself snatching my phone like I'm fishing..ha ha ha.
Haha thanks buddy!

3.00 that was a bite. Have you considered using circle hooks, since your lines are unattended. That was a baby coalfish at 7.35
A great place to fish on low water all sorts of fish there all the best from Paul from Staffordshire 🇬🇧
U want to try just the other side of the bridge to your right mate it’s wrass heaven

Trim tag ends from your knots. It will reduce amount of weed that you are catching
Little Pollock that John . You need to get your self down to Cornwall for some great sea fishing off the rocks down here mate .
