Oh and sorry for the lag, it seems to only be on the recordings end. The game runs fairly smooth for me all on medium settings, but it seems the recording at 1440p is struggling :/
You should also try the aoe2 de campaigns. I personally find them more engaging with voice acting and narration from the pov of the characters in the story. Microsoft is also putting out dlcs and new content for it as well
I also like this more "historical" approach to this campaign. Since it feels like we are following the story of the "empire" more so than the character.
First off, I enjoy your lets play and am a fan of your content. I am very much enjoying watching you play but don't expect to pick up this game myself. Age of Empires was probably the first PC "strategy" game that I ever played but I'm a bit disappointed in how little the mechanics have changed, or even the buildings. I like the campaign and the intros - I'm familiar with the history and like the context that the intro provides, something that the older versions lacked. This would have been awesome 15 years ago but I might enjoy Age of Kings as much as this.
3:30 - I actually liked that each Age of Empires game had a different way of presenting the story. --------- AoE1 was sort of omniscient, like you were a god just temporarily assuming the role of various leaders from mission to mission over centuries and millenia. AoE2 was a 'you are the commander' type of view, where a narrator specifically addresses you, or you take the role of a historical leader for an entire campaign, but you didn't really get into their head. It was more like you were a listening to an old tale told from a certain perspective. AoE3 tried for a somewhat fictionalized setting, where you specifically follow the characters as they engage in dialogue with each other, and got into the head of one of them each campaign. Cut scenes, and third person limited view. I didn't really like this so much, because a lot of other games have told stories this way, and did it better, imo. I like that AoE4 has that documentary style presentation, which seems pretty unique as far as story telling goes for video games.
I don't understand the graphics in this game. They're so hard to read that I can barely tell units apart. BTW, love your Anno playthroughs, glad to see you expanding to other games : D
Like, I also find the UI overly simplistic and utterly boring (and a little ugly). It really looks like they decided all of the UI elements on a first pass and didn't change them since early production. The graphics also make the units and maps look straight up like a tabletop wargame, and not in a stylish way. I think it's the weird cel-shading type look that makes everything look like painted miniatures. It just really comes off as cheap and honestly uninspired.
the game is disapointing especially when we see how this genre did mature with coh and men of war and the medieval game ancestors legacy . to me it look just like stronghold 2001 with better 2006 graphics . in few words , its horribly outdated and such marketing will fit more with a total war or paradox games because those are closer to real history than this one

I really like the videos in the game. I agree with you. Its just enough to give you a taste.

35:00 - Relic RTS games seem to encourage constant aggression, unless it's DoW 2

To a certain extent I agree - I'm saving my critique for my review!
currently it is free on game pass if anyone is interested
I hope the missions will get more interesting
solid vid
This style of campaign is more similar to the historical battles in TW shogun 2

Am I the only one that kept moving their mouse trying to look around? lol
i like them, but i think i'd still prefer the AOE2 style of openings for missions

Can you disable the narrator?
You can probably turn her down/off but I want to hear the context
