Split vs. Splitless Injection

- Split and splitless are the two most commonly used GC injection techniques. While they share some similarities, each is suited to a particular type of analysis. But how do you know which one to use?
In this video, we explore how these two techniques work. We’ll start with split injection, demonstrate the technique in action, and explain what split ratios are. We’ll then switch to splitless injection, show how it differs from split mode, and cover what splitless hold time is and why it matters. Finally, we’ll look at the strengths of each mode to help you choose the right one for your analysis.

i wish they taught us like this in pharmacy ,,, thank you man you helped me alot
You are most welcome!
nice, rarely i got information i need with these kind of videos but this one is actually pretty good
Your videos are a masterpiece! They are truly perfect, I congratulate you. I would be really grateful if you made a video describing all the steps of a gas chromatographic analysis. Thank you very much!
We'll have some more videos coming very soon looking at some details of both split and splitless injection.
@@RestekCorp Thank you very much! 👍
RESTEK is a Backbone to us
Thank you!
You're the bestest in explanations
Thank you for such wonderful explanation.
Restek are beasts when it comes to GC.
Thank you for putting knowledge increasing video
Our pleasure!
Great Explanation 💯💯
best video ever
Very useful
great one,i rememer Dr Shikanga, elaborating the same
thanks for the video
In the diagrams of the inlet it appears that the column protrudes more into the liner for splitless injections versus split injection. Is this correct or am I taking too much from the diagrams? Thanks!
Column installation distance should not change between split and splitless.
If you could make videos for other injection methods
Thanks
We've some more videos on optimizing split and splitless that are in development. Any particular injection methods you are interested in?
@@RestekCorp Thanks for your quick response and I appreciate it.
A lot of sample introduction methods in GC can be used such as:
1- Thermal desorption (single vs multi/ two stage)
2- Solid-phase microextraction (SPME)/ Headspace
3- Purge and Trap
4- Cold On-Column Injection
5- Programmable Temperature Vaporizing (PTV) Injection
6- Gas Sampling Valve
These are some other sample introduction methods other than split/split injection method.
Thanks
We have several videos in development for SPME right now, and most of the rest of your list are already on our idea list, but we will add the others. Thank you!
How gas flow is in volume/time? How can we measure gas volume when it flows?
In splitless type, why was the vent opened after sometime?
In splitless, the vent is opened to purge any remaining material from the inlet. Accordingly, it is important to set the time for when that happens correctly. You should allow time, based on flow rate and liner volume, for 1.5 to 2 liner volumes to pass through the inlet, then open the split vent to purge any remaining material.
@@RestekCorp Alright understood. Thanks alot💯
Excellent
How to calculate split rato based on column and split flow.
It is generally expressed as a ratio of split flow : column flow, so if you have 100 mL/min of split vent flow and 1 mL/min of column flow, you have a split ratio of 100:1.
@@RestekCorp problema
hello, after replacing the burner, the chromatograph does not start, output 580000, and cannot be set on fire, can you tell me what the problem might be
Nice explanation sir
