That's called character development.
That fact that endevor would be haunted by his abusive behavior in the past for the rest of his life is both well deserved and tragic

that was such great inflection....
Tbf his mother never intended to, it was Endeavor's abuse that had pushed her to that point.
@@Jules279 it's still her, whether she wasn't stable or not. Same with not keeping an eye on Toya. Considering endeavor was either working or focused solely on shoto (still shitty), she failed on caring for and helping toya though it's more understandable for her than endeavor 100%.

I love that Horkoshi is really making Endevor work to get that redemption, he did some screwed up crap and absolutely should not have it brushed off easily. But I also loved that the rest acknowledged they had their own roles in it even if pretty small compared to him. Shoto was able to go to school and break away from that toxic enviornment even taking steps to start mending the scars by visiting his mom thanks to Izuku.
Yeah Shoto honestly got lucky AF. Dabi got no such break from life. He literally went from burning alive and being abandoned by his father…To fucking All For One’s Academy For Gifted Weapons…So yeah Dabi didn’t get a very good roll in life sadly…
He's not going to get a redemption arc. The series will end before he can even try.

Seeing Endeavor in tears just hits differently. 😢
Yup I wanna give him a hug 🫂🥺
I always thought I was the only one who felt hit by his tears 😢 but on the otherside the amount of abuse & pain he inflicted on his family stirred a lot of anger inside of me
It does. All the pain he realized he had caused and how his poor decisions, even as he tried to save Toya from himself but only leading him to lose his shit so much more, and how even if he was trying to change, it hit Enji/Endeavor hard since he thought Toya was dead all this time and to see he was like he was, who could blame him?
i just feel sorry for the poor bastard at the start i hated him as much as the next guy but when he started to change i started feeling sorry for him
It’s almost as sad as it is satisfying honestly.
That is character growth. Endeavors actions become understandable. Not justifiable but understandable. Then he realizes the harm he has done, not through malice towards his children but through callous neglect.
Endeavor finally felt all the pain and all the guilt from his past mistakes and he regret all he done
Just so sad
💯, it's absolutely sad.
Thankfully he'll have the chance to atone for them after this moment.
@@HolyCross9 I really hope he does.
Good, he deserved it.
He finally has perspective. He fought tooth and nail his whole life to be number 1. In his mind, if he couldn’t achieve that goal, either himself or by his kids, then everything, all of his suffering, as well as the suffering he put his family through was all for nothing. It was only when All Might fell and when his dream was unceremoniously given to him on a technicality did he finally start to look back and see how much of his own life his fire burned down.
As it was stated in another comment from another MHA video, “Endeavor created his own hell and Dabi is the demon that crawled on out”.
Figures it would turn out like this. I remember when I first discovered Endeavor's existence and utterly despised him and hoped that he would get punished badly for what he did to Shoto and his family. Then All Might retired, Endeavor reflected on his choices, actually started learning from it all and began earnestly repenting for his action to the point that I started really liking him. Now the punishment I once hoped for has come and there's absolutely no satisfaction in it.
Well done.
Well spoken. I couldn't agree more!
I still think he has to take the punishment.
It’s just part of being a responsible man
@@Alternative_Alba I agree, but since he started repenting, the punishment lost the satisfaction I once hoped to have.
Enji is such a complex character. i mean he has endured Trauma by himself when he saw his father die. He never got to learn how to deal with it and now he has his punishment. the manga at the moment is crazy with him. I adore him so much
@@Alternative_Albawhat hes going thru is enough of a punishment,no other punishment will atone to his past sins
A lot of people think some people are beyond redemption, but that's the kind of mind set that leads to villains. As Nick Wilde once said "If the world's only gonna see a fox as shifty and untrustworthy, there's no point in trying to be anything else." Giving up on people makes them give up on themselves.
Well that person also needs to genuinely regret their actions and accept that they screwed up too. It's why when I see a villian with a sympathetic backstory I still remind people well that's great, except they clearly don't think their doing anything wrong or are making the effort to change so they should still be treated like villians. Tragedy does not excuse a villians actions ever.
@@Cloud-dt6xb I don't think regret is necessary. I don't and will never regret a single thing I do. I might feel guilty about some things, but regret is never a feeling I will consider. But that said, I also don't think guilt is necessary. If a person comes to accept their past actions as unethical, I think so long as they are working to better themselves, that's enough.
@@connorgrynol9021 Yes it absolutely is because it shows us that the charachter actually feels bad for what they did and for a redemption arc that is one of the most crucial things to show for a former villian/antagnoist you want to turn good. Especially for one with a long list of screwed up crap like Endeavor,
@@connorgrynol9021 I'd say its an issue if they can't understand why it's a bad thing.
@@JamaicaZ160R1793010A well, it’s not obvious, that’s for sure. People take for granted how much of an impact their environment has on their moral development. Morality is partially rooted in our DNA, and so is the capacity to dehumanize other people. Our primitive minds can even show their ugly selves in normal people, it’s not hard to imagine broken people can show it more.
Our ability to feel empathy for others only goes so far as we don’t consider them “other”. Othering is a process where you no longer see a group as human and it becomes easy to treat them poorly. It’s why people owned slaves for thousands of years, why racism is still prevalent today, why religious folk can think “they’re just getting what they deserve” without a hint of compassion. I’ve already said a lot, but this isn’t exactly a simple topic. As I said, morality is a multifaceted system and people take for granted how obvious some things seem to them aren’t actually obvious.
I really need to get back to watching the English dub of MHA. This moment was captured perfectly in both the english sub and dub of the anime.

“The hero I was, endeavour, is dead. I can’t fight my own son”
Patrick Seitz’s delivery of that line was amazing, I felt enji’s sadness and regret.
Honestly, Endeavor deserved everything that came back to him. Touya made true on his promise and said it best- "The past never dies."
He deserved that pain he caused he did.
Toya was a psychopath even as a kid. Like he legit tried to end baby Shoto when he wasn't the favorite anymore. That's why Endavor kept Shoto separate after a while.
right.
I freaking love Endeavor as a character. Can't stand him as a person, but I can acknowledge and even admire the work he's been puting in to make things right... or well... as right as he can. His kid's still a half dead serial killer.
And this is what endeavour finally realizes all the torment he has done towards his own family.

R.I.P. Endeavor
Even if he and the remaining heroes succeed in taking down Shigaraki, Dabi and the League of Villains, Endeavor realizes that things will never be the same for him again. Society will never see him as a true hero considering the suffering he put his family through that led to the creation of a monster. He will either sacrifice himself to finally put down Dabi or retire in an attempt to make things right. In his eyes now, he knows he's not worthy of calling himself a hero.

Always love and respect your kids else they come back and hunt you
It's sad, but he fucked himself over. If he only acknowledged Toya like he wanted and helped him become a hero and control his flames, this wouldn't have happened. Greed pushed him, now it haunts him
He was training him
Actually, his plan was a success. He needed a power hero for a son and a powerful hero needs a powerful villain to match him.
@@TRIYP he was, until his flames hurt him, then Endeavor stopped and wouldn't acknowledge him anymore. He felt his son was a failure and couldn't be a hero at that point
@@UrSammichf you pay any attention he never said explicitly he was a failure. His fire was too strong and his body wasn’t up to handle the intense heat so he stopped training him because he cared more about toyas well being than his training. Should’ve told him why it had to be that way instead of how he hid the fact. Toya assumed his failure and developed that complex on his own.
There's no "helping him be a hero". His constitution is too weak, and you can even see how now he looks like a damn skeleton lol

dabi's backstory is incredibly tragic bro just wanted to make his dad proud
Truth be told, if Touya wasn’t killing anyone I’d probably be 100% behind him on this. Sad as this all is, I can’t really say Endeavor didn’t deserve this. Like, I do believe that he feels genuinely bad for what he's done, but it'll probably take a lifetime's worth of atonement before I start to look at him much differently though.
That's the point of his whole character, he keeps striving for goals even if they appear impossible. He never gives up. It's in his hero name, Endeavour.
@@Paradox_Of_Crota I mean, that applies to his role as a hero. Not atoning though. As it stands he really hasn’t done much beyond the bare minimum when it comes to actually going out of his way to atone.
@@natsuotodorokiwhat would you hope to see from him or in other words wanted to see him do to atone better?
@@sparxx9537 Giving him the benefit of the doubt, I get why he kept his job and didn’t try to seek out legal consequences. Still, I would’ve liked for him to at least... consider it. Like, there’s no objective answer for whether or not he deserves his position, but for him to be so content with being someone who makes a living off of arresting people, when he himself is a criminal, it doesn’t exactly make his promise fee that genuine.
And even I were to let that slide, it’s really after this point in the hospital where he really had a chance to atone and he basically does the exact opposite. He could’ve communicated with the family and helped find and confront Touya and come up with a way to properly reach out to him. Instead he just left without any explanation. And avoiding spoilers for the future, but this ends up having pretty big consequences.

Fight the son is different from training a son. If you're teaching your kid combat sports or contact sports you condition their body. Anyone can go rounds with a heavy bag. To be fair to Endeavor (and don’t get me wrong, Endeavor is ABSOLUTELY the cause of his family’s problems)
His family is right, they’re all to blame, because they all stood by, they let Toya suffer, until he became Dabi
Natsuo stopped supporting, and even listening to Toya, Fuyumi just quietly hid in the background and pretended things were okay, and it was Toya’s anger that pushed Rei over the edge

I initially disliked Endevor myself. But not I can't help but feel sorry for him as he knows he's screwed up. I'm grateful that Endeavor worked up the courage to face the consequences for his actions.
Look I get Endeavor was a terrible father and he deserves all his guilt, but I just can’t sympathize with Dabi when his main beef with his old man is the one good thing he did being that he decided not to teach a self destructive technique to the kid whose abilities is self destructive by default
Yes
But he still messed up Dabi. Because Dabi had the potential to really become the One, Endavor wanted. Endavor just couldn’t see it.
Saddest part of the manga is that Dabi had the ice quirk & fire quirk. And was able to survive 15 f years, when in reality he was already dead physically.

@Goleon I think you're referring to the chapter 368 cover controversy where he revealed Toru Hagakure in her hero costume, meaning she was naked except for her gloves and shoes. She was fully visible with her legs folded up against her chest to cover herself and she was wrapped up in caution tape. Finally you see your wrong now, Endeavour?
Hm took you while.
When narcissism faded it gave way to the worries of parent hood, regret and grief.
TBH, after seeing the backstory with Toya unfold on screen, I don't think Enji actually did anything wrong regarding his relationship to Toya. The worst thing he did was take out his frustration with being unable to protect Toya from his own powers on Rei. Granted, that was a mistake, but it is a far more justifiable reason for his actions than simple disregard for his wife and family. He was never "abusive" in the sense of someone who hurts other for pleasure or because they don't care.
He was too obsessed with achieving his goal and ended up neglecting his family. When he realized that Toya couldn't possibly be the one, he just kept pushing and pushing.
When Shoto was born, and Toya threw his little fit, that's when things started getting really toxic. And he basically drove himself mad after Toya was pronounced dead. It's a complicated situation really.
It's karma!!!

Am I wrong for thinking there's parallels between Endeavor and Fire Lord Ozai?
Nope. Sometimes I wonder if the mangaka took inspiration from Avatar
No way, that's an accurate comparison.
There’s so many similarities lmao
Ozai was an irredeemable monster though who was willing to murder Zuko on multiple occasions and burned him intentionally as a punishment. Endeavor is vastly different and has undergone much character growth and becomes so different that even Deku notes that he’s changed dramatically from his introduction. There may have been inspiration from Avatar but there are barely similarities between Ozai and Endevor

People be arguing about Touya vs Endeavor, who was right? The answer is neither. Touya was hurt in a way that cant be repaired at this point(at least so far in the manga) and Endeavor made mistakes. Does that mean one is evil? Personally, I think Touya is just a kid who's in a lot of pain. It doesn't excuse his actions, however you can't neglect the fact that society mistreated him and he was hurt deeply because of it: he IS a victim. Endeavor similarly was a victim of his own greed. And I must say, I love how they developed his character as something more than the jerk that serves as a plot device. Genuinely one of my favorite characters now, next to Bakugou and Hawks.
