I know the DS and the iPhone use totally different technology, but I really do think in terms of concept the iPhone probably owes a great deal to the DS in terms of its demonstration that touch control could work as an in-demand product on the mass market. A lot of folks today forget just how obscure touch screen control really was as a consumer technology prior to the DS: it's something which showed up on some ATM machines and those little touch-screen minigame systems at bars and restaurants.
