I agree completely. Unless you need the 128gb Ram, the base 16 inch M3 Max is great with 36gb Ram and 1Tb SSD. from the tests the performance is similar to the Maxed out M3 Max but runs cooler and more efficiently. I would not get any M3 max in the 14 inch variant since even the base M3 i tested cannot keep quiet under load.
@@octny i have the M3 Max 16” 36gb Ram 1TB ssd and is a beast. No problems at all for almost everything. I use as Dj Editing videos 4k and music production its move like butter no issues i will recommend but i have the silver version i don’t think that extra money for the black version are worth unless you have the money extra but for me why you need tho pay for colors deferents they need tho be free.
@@Chiliconcalle so do I. I love it. the price was quite steep but so far I am satisfied with the quality. Combined with an iPad Pro M4 you get the best of both worlds. I extend my screen on the iPad Pro when I'm on the go and need two screens.
Actually only the maxed out m3max14 inch model thermal throttles. The base max m3 14 inch model does not seem to throttle (the model that i own). I agree though that the 16" model will have better cooling. The portability of the 14" model is a big factor for me
Not accurate. It’s you trade either maxing out fans or throttling on either of them. It’s dealers choice where as the 16 just doesn’t have that issue and is 10c cooler no matter what your doing and even more spread at max load
If you need every drop of performance, give the CPU the cooling it deserves with the 16-inch enclosure. If you need the portability more, understand you will sacrifice a bit of performance and cooling. I have the same config you have except with 1 TB and I am very happy with it.
Watching reviews convinced me that the 16" Pro Max was the way to go due to the better heat dissipation. Like you, I'd have preferred the smaller 14" for travel because I'd already grown tired of lugging around a 16" M1 Pro plus an older Intel Mac.
This is good advice for Premier Pro users that use 6K as the extra interior space of the 16-inch will give more room before it thermally saturates and the fans have to go into overtime. This can also be seen on the XPS 15 and 17 and is why Windows machines are moving from 14/16 to 15/17 inches for high-performing laptops. I do expect that Adobe will get better with updates. We saw that poor app optimisation on the iPhone A17 Pro chip caused issues for a couple of months, and I suspect we are seeing thermal issues with some software in the M3 machines. Therefore, I usually buy a Mac or iPhone 2+ months after launch, so the dust has settled, and I am not beta testing. It's not something YT creators can do for obvious reasons, but it's sensible for consumers looking to throw $3000+ on the M3 Max. Thanks!
great video but it would be useful to mention in the description which M3 Mac Book Pro configuration you're referring to. There is also the M3 14/30 Max version as well. Not all people use the maxed out M3 Max 16/40. It's not like the binned M3 Max does not exist.
I'm a filmmaker and photographer looking at spending up to around 3k on a 14 inch laptop (I need the portable form factor) and I've been choosing between m3 pro with ram and storage, m3 max binned version and also some windows laptops, such as the asus zenbook pro 14 oled. Super hard choice as the apple ones last longer on battery and are quieter, But seeing your insight on your 14 inch I'm actually leaning to a windows one considering you said the 14 was hot and loud and you could feel it slowing down. Granted that may only be for the m3 max full version but then again I don't think that would be any slower than the binned version. For under 2500 dollars with the asus I'll have 48gb of ram (+8gb of gddr6 on the gpu) and 4tb of fast storage, and a fast oled display, but the macbook is so tempting despite costing so much more.
Despite this cooling problem, is the M3 Max 14" still close to the Rtx 4080 or 4070 laptop? And should I buy it instead of an Rtx laptop? Or should I buy an M2 Max 16"?
Hey I just got the 16 inch m3 and im noticing the speakers are popping all the time. Read a couple reddit threads and found this is common on the larger models. Have you noticed this? Thinking of downgrading to the 14 inch cause its so annoying
I'm debating on getting the 16-in upcoming from a Windows Dell G7 what do you think.. I'm debating on going with the pro with 1 TB with a T9 external 2 TB.. and 36 gigs of RAM..
You got to be kidding me! Just render, export or whatever of a even 1 hour 4k video or whatever you can think of and show me the difference. You are creating a workflow that 0.01% of the planet uses to force the 14" to thermal throttle and then you are like TADA 🎉 we found it 🤣 You are the type of RUclipsr that compares iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max And sees the difference when opening an application and call that a Speedtest you guys are like that 🤣 and more interestingly you call one of those phones faster because it wins by 0.0001 seconds. That is NOT even a speed test. Your are wrong from the bones bro 😎
For reference I had the fully maxed out 14”!!!! The base m3 max 16” should also be as sufficient as my maxed out 16” model due to better cooling😊

Other reviews where they measure the thermals and do performance testing revealed CPU throttling on the base 14" model.

That desk setup is NICE! I'm a windows guy but I want to take youtube serious so I purchased my first mac, the 16 m3 max.

Agreed!! We made the right choice 😏
You could have went with the m3 Max 14 inch binned version. It costs much less and it shouldn’t get as hot as the unbinned one
@@mrawesome2704 All versions of the 14 inch M3 Max will throttle due to heat. The 16 inch has a much better cooling system.

Awesome!! Happy new year and thank you♥️
I got the same problem with the 14" max 14 core. always heard the fan during exporting movies even in HD. The 16" has more space intern for the heat
you are correct. it is a furnace. stick to the 16 inch
LMFAOOOOOO 😭💀😭
Oh my goodness please tell me where you got that laptop cover for your computer! I possibly want to get it for my 16 inch laptop if possible!!

0:40 not true macbooks do not sound like a jet engine like pc laptops do
can you link up that cool cover , skin, you have on your laptop?

wow noise and heat, feels like going back to intel! that's insane.
tell me about it
This video demonstrates the pitfalls of buying your laptop before updates are issued for 3rd party vendors (particularly Adobe)

Can you please tell me what desktop monitors you are using
lg 4k 27" monitors....gonna be replaced soon tho

Review coming soon!! Happy new years🤗

The difference of M3 Max in 14 vs 16 is negligible. Not sure what are you talking about! Some people are going nuts these days.
i'd love to see your comparison video between the two so you can show us this negligible difference......so please.....educate us :)
