    Charles, these videos are fantastic, I have never seen on line tutorials like this. Thank you for the hard work you put into them.
    I was on one of your sessions at the Mill in Posara. There are 2 things that I would appreciate you going over again please. One is about how to add convincing people to landscapes, and the other, a more technical issue, is how paints merge into each other. The ingredients of different paints react differently.
    Oh and I thought of another one, shadows! I suffered once with masses of great purple shadows, so show do you make them look convincing?

      John...of course I remember you. How could I forget the four muskateers, the posing on the table for Mirella and the group? Good to hear from you. I'll see what I can do regarding your requests. I'll get to them some time, but not sure when, as I have a list to get through. Keep an eye out as it may be at any stage. Thanks for the kind word and for watching my videos. Just need to get a few thousand to watch 😄

    7:05 Loving the 'no warning' switch to grey scale Charles. Excellent demo tones/values - "talues" perhaps? A tone can be 'a value'. A value is a value - of which a tone can be one (a value) - maybe. Excellent choice of soundtrack for this one too🍄👽

      Thanks Andrew for the comments and for watching I do like " talues" - you could be onto something there. 🙂. Also glad you appreciated the no warning switch and the music - nice to see that someone noticed😁🖌. While I'm here, Happy New Year.🍾

    This was awesome! I use value, but tone definitely helped me better understand it. Thank you!

      Thanks Jenn. I am so glad it helped. I guess it doesn't matter which word is used as long at it sinks in. Thanks for watching.

    Adding tone to my painting,in ILLINOIS USA I call it ligjt and dark valve.great lesson.

      Thanks Donna. I knew it was called value in the USA, but here in Australia we use Tone. I wish it was the same in all English speaking countries. It would make things much easier 🙂. Thanks for watching from Illinois.

    Amazing. Fantastic. Thank you. Love your videos.... I am learning so much !!! You explain everything very clearly and your superb film making is coming thru ...... love the way that you weaved the computer tonal shots in with the actual painting. It really made the concept clear. And the speed of your actual painting process is perfect... not too slow and not too fast. Excellent. Off to do some painting !!!! You videos always inspire me to get the paint flowing....

      @charles-sluga  5 лет назад

      Thanks for the feedback Susan. I often wondered if the speed of the demonstration was too fast or too slow. I also appreciate the fact that you like the film making side of it. I was hoping people would enjoy it.

    Thanks Charles! Not the answer to my question that I was expecting but it makes so much sense. I see how this can apply to any subject from a basket of mushrooms to a complex landscape littered with distractions. No one has ever explained it better. Really appreciate your work!

      Thanks very much Jack. I appreciate you watching the videos, but I do have a question - what was your question?

    • @jacksemotchko7812
      @jacksemotchko7812 5 лет назад +1

      SLUGA I asked if you used a particular process to simplify a complex scene that you’re faced with when painting en plein air. Of course I expected something to do with eliminating anything that doesn’t add to the picture and rearranging the key elements to create a strong composition. I understand what needs to be done but fall short in actual practice. With this technique of squinting to see only the three tonal values (I use both😉) of the major elements it could help me to make better thumbnail sketches and hopefully arrive at stronger compositions. Yes?

      @charles-sluga  5 лет назад

      Thanks Jack. I see. I went back through the 100 or so questions I was sent and found your question. I am sorry, but this video wasn't a direct answer to your question. I may come to it when I do some en-plein air painting (when it is warmer😁). However, you are correct in what you say regarding elimination and squinting. In essence - yes.

      SLUGA Thanks Charles. Really looking forward to the Plein air stuff. Would happily buy a video based on your plein air approach.

    Great video Charles ! I love the fact that you can use any weird and wonderful colours ( or I do anyway hehehe) - as long as you have at least three tones - the painting is recognizable . Thank you so much for all the effort you put into doing these videos . Kind regards - Judi - Kialla

    Brilliant! What an absolute master of the medium you are Charles! Love watching the process of a painting and you've used my favorite colour in this one - orange, but you'd call it something else!?!?

    • @charles-sluga
      @charles-sluga  5 лет назад

      Thanks Nancy :). I don't know about being a master, but I do my best...oh, do you mean master of the watercolour or film medium?😄 The orange is called Transparent Orange in this particular case, but it was mixed with a few other colours.

    Value mostly but I've watched so many Aussie and Brit and Irish videos that I now use tone and my American friends think now I am pretentious! Should I tell them to bugger off?

    • @charles-sluga
      @charles-sluga  2 года назад +1

      Pretentious?..😂 maybe you should Mike, maybe you should. Having said that, I have been using the word " value" in my videos I'm doing for my watercolor school...I don't want anyone thinking I'm pretentious 😁
