  • Diagnosing front suspension problems can be a pain - there's a lot of parts up there. However, the usual suspect, for any classic Capri/Escort owners out there, is the Track Control Arms (TCAs). Let's take a look at how to remove these, fit new bushings, and refit.
    The car in the video is my 1978 Ford Capri running a Modified 2.0 Pinto Engine. If Classic Cars are your thing, check out this playlist. Maintenance, Tech Tips, Track Days, it's all here:

    This video is perfect! I am going to attempt this myself tomorrow and you are so descriptive and you walked me through everything to the point I feel confident doing it myself. Thank you

    Thanks for posting this , I am trying to work up the courage to do this job tomorrow. The poly bushes have arrived so there's no excuse . Hope you and the car are both well , best wishes.

    I realize this is years later, but you saved my bacon with this video. I would NEVER have thought of using a tie-down to pull the bars closer. Been battling for two days with my Ford Bantam here in South Africa. Five stars to you>

    Good video and nice to see someone use a rubber mallet as opposed to a hammer to save damaging the threads
    Nice sound of the exhaust

    I think I’m going to be doing the TCAs soon. Regarding jacking the car up, any chance you could do a video on jacking the rear of a Capri up? I’m still worried to jack on the diff as I’ve never done this and I can’t find any videos or pics of jacking on the diff etc. Keep up the videos they’re great ! I definitely have a lot of these jobs to do on my 2.0 ! By the way do you have a normal sports exhaust? It’s sounds great !

      Sorry bit late on the reply, hope you managed to get the car jacked up in the meantime! It's a good idea for a video because I'm always wary of where to jack up classic cars. But no worries for you to go straight under the diff. You won't bend that!

      As for the exhaust, it's nothing special, just a Sportex 2" system. Does the job. There's an in depth run around of the Capri in one of my newer vids if you're interested: 👉ruclips.net/video/GO3dKBXXv6c/видео.html
      Cheers!

    Hey James, finely ordered some TCA's as the ball joint is knackard on the passenger side now. Going over your video before I start pulling stuff apart in the next week. I need to get myself a decent ratchet strap, I have some small ones somewhere but what size is that big blue one? looks fairly industrial haha! I'm just going for standard rubber bush QH replacements TCA's. Any issues you know of with bolt sizes or getting the rubber bushes into the body of the car? Just trying to make this a one day event as I'm using my folks drive way.

      Hey mate. Small ratchet strap will be absolutely fine. I was just using what I had. Standard rubber bushes are fine if it's tight into the cross member you might have to use a bottle jack to push them into place.. but I think you'll be fine. One thing I've got into the habit of doing is getting some genuine ford boots for the ball joint and swapping them out. I found the boots on aftermarket arms were crap and split after a year.

      @@FastRust Cheers mate! I found my small orange ones (for light loads) maybe i'll just use two of them. Wasnt sure how strong the anti roll bar would be. Cheers for the tip on the boots too!
      What springs do you have on the front of yours btw? I've got some roller bearing top mounts I was thinking of fitting while I'm at it. I've got 2" Burton lowering springs (which I found pretty harsh) but also have some 2.8 springs I've not used before. Currently on standard 2.0 springs and solid top mounts.

    Hey bud!! Tried this today without a ball joint splitter and couldnt get either the TCA ball joint or Track Control Arm to budge! Tried the smacking it with a hammer way of doing it. Do you know where you got your splitter from? Not sure how many sizes there are?

    • @FastRust
      @FastRust  2 года назад

      Hey mate. Yeah can be difficult sometimes with the hammer. Especially on the Capri/Escort because there's not much room to get a good swing! I'm pretty sure mine is a Clarke CHT222 ball joint separator. Available from Machine Mart for about 12 quid.

    What was the size of the nut holding the anti roll bar to the track arm?

    • @FastRust
      @FastRust  2 года назад

      On mine 24mm. If it's the old castle nut I think it's smaller.
