Great video. We used a helicopter to spray round up before one time but the spray pattern left alot of missed spots. But that was 30 years ago so I know it is alot better now. Watching a helicopter crop dust is very cool sight.
Really cool to see y’all explore and share other aspects of ag aviation. When I was a young man I rode shotgun with the guy I worked for in an old Bell 47-G rounding up cattle. Talk about fun!!! I was amazed at all he was able to do with a helicopter. Y’all be safe out there!! 🤠👍
Had a heli do the field across the road for the first time last year, and one word crazy! They looked like they flew closer to the edge than the planes! Always fun to watch.
I remember having to change the diaphragm on the spay nozzles,as the chemicals would eat them up and cause them to leak when not spraying. I use to mix ddt, methal perathyn back in the day . I was under 11 years old . Strong stuff.
That is so awesome! Loved that ending footage of the helicopter in action. Kali looks like she’s really having a blast. Chaz did a great job explaining how everything works, what a cool job he has. I have always been fascinated with helicopters. So much so that I actually fly RC (radio controlled) helicopters and have been for 15 years now. Unlike real helicopters, RC helis can hover inverted, do loops, and also barrel rolls. Another tidbit, it’s also much harder to fly RC helicopters than RC airplanes, but I can’t fly planes because I never have! 😂 Great video you guys, I really enjoyed it!
Very good informations about how a helicopter is controlled and how this whole crop spraying job works! I would love to watch some flight footage. But maybe there is and I did not see it. Yet! Thanks from a RC heli freak!!
Thanks for the video 👍 All my questions answered. So much respect for the skill for not only flying the helli but spraying with it as well. Edit how did Chas originally start flying Helicopters ? Military ?
Absolutely love the 206L. Best helicopter. I’ve worked on all kinds of military helicopters and still think the Long Ranger is the best. Great video. Do you all have helmets?
Great interview Tyson! I had never thought about it but I have never seen a helicopter spaying in North Dakota (or here in Manitoba). Is that because of the size of the fields and the smaller tanks on helicopters? My guess is the cost of a helicopter and the cost of operating would make them "inefficient" (not economical here.
For sure, in fact we are buying a Cessna Ag truck that has a hydraulic system. I think Tyson referenced our Thrush, as it has the wind driven pump. But valid point!
Great video, very informative. One thing I noticed was how much clothing you are all wearing! If it's 100 at night how hot was it when you made the video? Chas is wearing a T-shirt and hoodie and you're wearing a lumberjack shirt over your T-shirt.
Great interview. Really appreciate the detailed discussion. Cali and Ty are the best 🙌
Thanks so much!! Appreciate your comment.

Interesting! Thanks for the comment.
COOL, WHEN I WORKED OFFSHORE,WE FLEW CHOPPERS ALL THE TIME. I LOVED THE BELL 214ST ,IT WAS A BEAST. BE SAFE OUT THERE MAN. THANKS FOR THE VIDEOS.
Wow, that's really cool!! Thanks for the comment, Billy!
Neat video! This man looks as if this is "just another day at the office" as he puts the helo through the paces.
Totally!

Thanks for the comment Rob. That would be a blast. Appreciate you!!

Kind of depends on the situation! But a thorough ag pilot, whether fixed or rotor, will cover the entire field.

That's quite a job for an 11 year old!
Fantastic video and information. This was great! I grew up near that area and proud these folks are still going strong. Wonderful job! 😻✈️❤️👍🏼✨
Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

Same for me ☺️ what heli is that in your profile pic? I see a flybar.
@@stephenhoover4095 it’s an old T-Rex 550 nitro powered heli that belongs to a friend. Mine are flybarless.
@@SoCal780 nice, I got into the hobby right after fbl became mainstream, my first fbl was beast x.
That's awesome! We honestly didn't even know RC helis were a thing?! That sounds fun.
@@AgAviationAdventures it's a lot of fun, I mainly got into it for the challenge it presented and I enjoy tinkering with them.
I don’t know why but the chopper turning around is so cool to me
It's SO cool.
Y'all BOTH CRAZY !! I have all I can stand spraying with the Farmall. STAY SAFE
Haha!!
Thank You for this informative content.
Best Wishes to everyone.
Thanks for watching!!

Thanks!! We didn't get to observe Chas spray a field but we did get to go for a mock spray run in the heli and it was a blast! Thanks for watching!

Thanks, Mike! Glad you enjoyed it. We are honestly not sure how Chas got started, but we will ask!
Fun job!
It has it's ups and downs 😉
Absolutely love the 206L. Best helicopter. I’ve worked on all kinds of military helicopters and still think the Long Ranger is the best. Great video. Do you all have helmets?
Yes, most Ag Pilots ( including Chas and Tyson) wear helmets while working!

Yes, correct!! They definitely have their time and place, but for us having one for our operation doesn't make sense.
Very cool!! Do planes also loose lift capacity when its super hot outside?
Yes, absolutely!
Hi Ty and Cali, Are you considering taking helicopters to the the mid-west??? Sure enjoyed your interview with Chas right there in Yuma.
Haha, no we don't have any plans to. It was fun to experience though!
So he flies by himself when spraying? No co pilot?
Yes, he flies by himself.
Just a small correction, but there are a lot of air tractors and thrushes and other models that use a hydraulic pump system.
For sure, in fact we are buying a Cessna Ag truck that has a hydraulic system. I think Tyson referenced our Thrush, as it has the wind driven pump. But valid point!

Haha! This was filmed in January during their winter. A lot less clothing down there for winter as opposed to Colorado or North Dakota!
This would be a awesome job to do crop spraying in a Helio
It has it's ups and downs.
Starts at 14:02
I mean I guess if that's the information you're after.
1:42 AFSOC says otherwise. AT-802U Sky Warden :)
For sure!!
Hello, I am from Brazil. I would like to know if it is possible for a Brazilian agricultural pilot to work in the United States.
Yes, you would just have to get a work visa.
👍👍👍
😁😁
150 gallons is not much capacity.
Nope! Especially when they are spraying 15-20 gallons per ac.
@@AgAviationAdventures also 1 gall is 8 lbs. 150 gall's is = to 1200 lbs. you need to watch your weight too.
they dont pay enuf for what a helicopter pilot has to know to fly this machine. and spray a field.
It's hard to know if the risk is worth the reward sometimes!
@@AgAviationAdventures esp when it could cost you your life so many mechanical parts one small part go's bad and get you killed.
Yep! A lot of people don't realize the weight.
What a collosal waste and inefficient way to spray.
It actually works really well for their needs there.
