- Don't listen to this reading if you are sensitive about 'problematic' language. This book is written with the language, attitudes and prejudices of the previous generation. I have not rehearsed and what is written is what I read. You may not like the language of previous generations so, if you are sensitive to it, don't listen. However, remember that if you were to read this great book to yourself, these words would be on the page in front of you and you would read them. So, I hope you will be mature and sensible and recognise that in reading this book, I am only giving you what the author wrote and what you would read.
i’ve got to read this book for AP Language, thank you for the audiobook!!! such a lifesaver

I just wanted to thank you. When I first tried to read this book, it was near impossible for me to focus. However, through your audiobook, I am able to fully comprehend and enjoy this work of literature. Thank you so much.
thank you so much for this! i had an assignment and had to read the book, listening to this is the only reason i survived reading the book! it made me more interested in it
I’m very pleased. Thank you
Just barely starting this book for AP Language, and I take my AP test in may!! I have chronic insomnia but I kept getting distracted while reading, so I started playing your book while doing chores and I eased my way into sitting down while reading. Definitely saved my life! :)
Yay! Another life saved! Enjoy it
Thank you for the audio book! I’ve been having trouble reading this by myself, I keep falling asleep. Reading along with you really helps! Thank you!
The fun is trying to make out what I’m talking about with my oxford accent. I hope you can translate, Addi
A masterpiece.
Truly THE great American novel.
I love listening to this while reading it, it helps me read at a constant speed and pick up on the details.
That’s good. I’m afraid you’ll come across the occasional mis-read because I don’t go back to correct myself. I don’t think the glitches change the meaning. Hope it’s not too annoying

This is one of my favourite books, and if I read it I “hear” Capote’s voice. Thank you Dr. Hibb for making the spoken version enjoyable.
Sorry to be so slow to respond, Margy. I’m so pleased to give you pleasure
your narration, sir, does the novel the justice it deserves. thank you, very much.
Dear Ms Odal, I’m very pleased to hear that (but I’m very aware the book is classic American but I am classic British)
@@geohib I don't think it makes a difference from/with what tongue of ethnicity it is read. All I know is that you show it the honour it deserves. And tomorrow, I'll be back to continue to listen. thank you.

Oh my gosh thank you! I have to read this for AP Literature and I have been running short on time! Now I can listen while doing my other homework!
Haha. Concentrate!
@@geohib You have no idea how much this helped me! I read so slow and I never knew I could pace myself with an audiobook! Thank you so so much for making these videos, I definitely hope you will continue making these!!!

how long did it take you to finish ?
I have to read this book for AP English and thank you so much, you made this book so much easier to read. I couldn't get past the first 10 pages without getting bored and sleepy
Aha! Thank you
Me right now hehe
I *love* your narration. I _absolutely_ mean it when I say THANK you for taking your personal time out for those who are unable to read on their own - whatever the reason may be - to share such an important title in our history of Literature.
I fear, with the direction we are going, we may one day find ourselves living in a nightmare resembling that of _Fahrenheit 451_ . So *share any and every story you can* , _while you can_ !
❤from Texas!!
That is very very sweet of you, K. You are clearly a very generous person
This is one of my favorite books since middle school. (Yes middle school. I grew up in Alabama. I can’t believe we got away with some of the books we read so young. Like a clockwork orange, would love to hear you read that.) but I had a wonderful teacher and wrote a paper on it. Your voice is wonderful. Keep reading books. I listen to your audios for rest almost every night.
That’s so sweet of you to write, Paloma. I’ll get back to reading new books soon
@@geohib very awesome! Thank you for responding!
I really really appreciate the effort you put in to read these classics to us. Thanks very much!
It’s very kind of you to write. Thank you
Thanks for helping me out for my AP Language class next year. Gonna leave a book mark at 1:10:26
Beautiful reading! The King's English at it's finest. Thank you!
That’s very sweet of you, Barbs. Especially as it’s such a very American book!
Capotes journalistic writing style is evident in this book. I love how he paints all the visual images without use of excessive words or flourishment
It’s very sparse, Cynthia. ‘Flourishment’ is good
I purchased and then read this book twice after watching CAPOTE. I'm glad I can listen to it now while driving. Thank you.
Wow! What an enthusiast! Thank you very much for writing
Great presentation! Great oratory! You should be an AudioBook star!!
Thank you 🙏
That’s kind, Jeff. Thank you
You remind me of my dad reading these stories with your voices and enthusiasm!
Nice, nnerd.
I see from the comments you are a lifesaver for many in classes. Wonderful! I was in school 30 years ago before audiobooks or computers. How very much i could have used all those avenues, especially English and i may have passed all that DNA/RNA headaches with the internet, oh well. I am very familiar with in cold blood. I think i first saw the movie in the early 80s and since read book at least twice. Ran across you here and decided i would give you a go. So i can have nightmares tonight...ha well maybe not. I am 64 . I like your reading.😊
Hello Kathy. I always like being given a go. Thank you for writing

Pleased to be of service, Adonis
You're amazing at reading this! It kept my attention the whole way through. Also, your Mrs. Clutter's voice amazing and strangely reminded me of Salad Fingers! 😄
Thank you, AZ, but that is a bit weird
Listened to all your videos of the book while I was hotshot trucking across the country. Really enjoyed it. Thank you sir.
Wow! That’s really lovely to hear. Thank you
This is one of my favorite books. So glad you did this. With your amazing velvet reading voice.
Thank you so much for that compliment, Torie
I love this man's reading. He helped me with both summer reading and my Honors English reading. Thank you sir.
That’s a lovely recommendation, dxq
Just discovered your channel while looking for am audio book for this book to see what the fuss is about. I'm amazed what a writer Capote was. You've done a great read. I'd love if you could do a separate video on this book where you talk about the book, plot, characters, analysis from your prescriptive and what you actually thought about the book. Thanks for the audio book. You'll be playing in my car for the next couple of days or weeks.
Thank you, N. I hope you’re sold on audio books now. Reading aloud can bring a book to life
You’re voice makes this book so much better
Very sweet of you, Brooke. Thank you
Thank You Dr. Hibb for the wonderful rendition.
Your are the most responsive RUclips creator I have ever seen. I appreciate your dedication
Kind of you, Ali
WHAT A TERRIFIC READING, DOC. I would gladly pay for its recording. Silky, mellifluous voice. Wonderful. thx.
Thank you, Robert. I really appreciate your kind comments
Thank you so much for doing this u saved my grade. Also bring from Kansas I find it fun how other people pronounce Arkansas and Wichita
Yes indeed. Kansas reinterpreted! Haha
ur about to save my honors english grade, on a road trip day before school opens thank you so much !!
Good luck. Hope you had a great road trip
I'm enjoying this so much since I have a hard time reading now! I was 8 months old when this happened!
I’m really pleased. Sorry about my English accent for such an American book but great if it works for you
I finished reading it last week - it is quite simply a masterpiece, a chilling examination of pure evil and the terrible consequences of a dysfunctional childhood not least in the case of Perry Smith. Capote's gift for narrative and simile are especially pronounced. PS Well read, sir.
Thanks Kevin. As you see, pure evil is rather pathetic however horrific its consequences
Not here for AP language. You have such a great voice! Thank you for reading this. I read it many years ago but it failed to keep my attention. Listening to you does the trick. It takes a bit more than simply reading and you have a talent for it!
Thank you, Reagan
Sir, you did so great reading this!👏❤️
Hopeless really - a british accent!
Great narration! Its so important to have a talented narrator for these classic works of literature!
Thank you so much, Evan. Kind of you to write
Thank you. I'm using your reading to teach some American prose to Egyptian students of English. 🙏
How lovely. I’ve got many of the place names mispronounced so I hope your Egyptians don’t head to the southern states and try to ask for directions
Amazing voice, intonation! Such a great read!
Thank you. Very kind of you to say. I’ve just finished this book and I’ll be starting a new one very soon. I wonder what to read?

Another life saved! I’m delighted. Good luck
On behalf of all AP Lang students; THANK YOU!
You’re welcome
After watching Capote, I was fascinated and compelled to read this book. As a single mother whose reading glasses have been trodden on, your videos are a godsend! Beautifully read, and with a lovely British accent, for once. Thank you so much for your efforts!
Thank you very much for your kind comments. I’m sad to think of you unable to read after your glasses were vandalised. From your photo, they look to have been super-glamorous

Are there more than 27 segments of readings? Your voice is lovely to listen to, thanks.
However, could you please list how many in chronological order you have done…& which are missing please? Thanks. 😊
Hello lioness. There’s nothing missing. But the book doesn’t divide into chapters so I just had to break off when my time ran out each day. It flows chronologically
You have a very cool voice, do you have any other audio books that you’ve done that you would recommend?
Thank you. Yes, you could try East of Eden or anything on my channel
Thank you so much for doing this
Thank you so much for writing
Got this book expecting a different experience but so far it’s great
Well if you’re enjoying it after all, then that’s a really good outcome. Thank you for writing
if i didn’t have you reading this to me, i wouldn’t read it at all
My pleasure. Enjoy it, Saxon.
It is NOT a novel. A novel is, by definition, fictional. "In Cold Blood" is journalism, reportage, non-fiction -- superlatively done in that regard.
Oh, B! There’s no need to try to squeeze it into or out of an existing category of writing. Loosen up! That’s the interesting thing about the book - a new genre. Copied repeatedly ever since with representations of true stories in box sets etc.
@@geohib When you say "novel" a lot of people think "fiction" and may then think "Gosh, he imagined much of this." The whole point of the book is, it's non-fiction. The phrase "New Journalism" is what I personally prefer. (I'm plenty loose, thanks for the advice though.)
Good name for it
@@OnePost909 shutup lol
@@OnePost909 It is nonfiction in the sense the base of the story is real and the murder really happened but the dialogue and much of the story elements were imagined to fill in holes and make it more entertaining to the reader.
Thank you sir for sharing
Thank you very much for writing. Much appreciated
Great voice!

Would love to know your thoughts on the effect writing this had on TC....I often wonder if he too died on execution day....
Hello Penelope. Wondering is much more interesting than knowing
Bien sur!
I understand, from much that has been said of the impact it made on Capote, I'd dare say, he hadn't known he had been bleeding all along from close to the beginning and may have bled perhaps to death a number of years later when he witnessed the execution. For you see, being who Capote was, he had neglected to write the book in cold blood.
Thank you!!
And thank you for listening x
Thank you 👌💕

Only note
Arkansas River is pronounced “Ar-Kan-Saw” like the state
Common mispronunciation for a non American cuz Arkansas and Kansas are pronounced differently
Such fun reading an iconic American book to you in an Oxford accent. And we also say Paris, not Paree and Moscow not Moskva. We’re two nations separated by a common language

Reading this book for class, and as someone who's lived in Kansas the pronunciation of the towns here are so funny. Olathe is pronounced O-lay-thuh and Witchita is pronouced Witch-it-tah. Just for future reference!
