I had an absolute blast at Level Up and I’m looking forward to the next event. It was really special to meet and game with content creators and designers. The library was AMAZING with the latest hotness and games I wouldn’t otherwise have access to. Hanging out with other campers in person was really the best part - we created some long lasting friendships
LevelUp was great. The people were the best part. What I hope LevelUp continues to be is a smaller dedicated to playing games convention. I have no interest in fighting the crowds of 50,000 people at GenCon and feel like I'm being sold to at every turn. Let those conventions be that. Let LevelUp be playing games with friends and making new friends along the way. What I did enjoy was that while LevelUp wasn't marketed as an adult only retreat. There really wasn't children there (And I mean the mini variety, not the teenagers that can behave themselves). There is something very relaxing about not having a bunch of screaming kids around, or having parents that can't just relax and enjoy playing games as they need to constantly be aware of what their children are doing. It is why I go to adults only resorts it changes the mood and expectation. It's a level of relaxation and carefreeness that makes the event even more special. I could be in the minority but that is my feelings.
Hi Alex! Thanks for the mention. For anyone interested in simultaneous mode of Isle of Cats, it is on the Isle of Cats BGG page, in the forum titled "SPEED variant". It's my favorite way to play too! I got to play 3 out of my top 4 games that I was hoping to play at Level Up. Unconscious Mind, Feudum (at 5 players) and Isle of Cats in simultaneous mode (which I got to play it with Devin too!). The only game I was sad to see missing was Townsfolk Tussle. Will try to say hi at Gencon! I'll be filling out the Level Up survey soon!
Level Up was a definite highlight of my year. Both my daughter and I had the most amazing time, were welcomed warmly, and made some new friends that we hope to keep for years to come. The event was well run, the people who attended were extremely kind and generous with their time and their company. And yes, the snack room was an amazing added benefit that I wish was a standard thing for all conventions. And of course, Alex was the consummate host and an absolute delight. I hope to make Level Up a regular part of my life.
For what it’s worth the staff at the hotel were super friendly and welcoming. They were helpful and welcoming, and helped make the whole experience a delight.
Survey submitted, and overall, thoroughly enjoyed the event! I know we didn't get to dive into Stranger Things too much before you had to leave, but hopefully I did a decent job of teaching it. :) For what my opinion is worth-a surprisingly tense experience for a game that essentially boils down to math and stacks of tokens. Looking forward to seeing your review of the whole thing; I know we talked about it as being similar to Oltree, in that once you beat it the appeal of diving back in is diminished, but I think the big difference (in hindsight) is that if you have multiple groups of people you play with, the lack of a story/narrative element actually increases the replayability when teaching it to different groups since it's more experience driven and not story driven. I'll be interested to see if they release future "expansion" seasons and what that might look like.
Thanks for the video. It was nice to get a review of the weekend. I did fill out survey. Glad I got to meet you and Meg. I am hoping for something near Denver - central location. Traveling to coast is a lot (time and expense wise). Weekend was a bit of Murphy’s Law for me. I only managed 5 games in three days. It was my first time at any convention, so I learned a lot. I loved your focus on just playing games. I am not interested in exhibitions or publishers at a game convention. Just looking of a larger group to play “convention” games with. Things I would never play with my small local game group.
Would love to go next year if it happens. I just hope that if it's still in July, that its 1 or 2 weeks later so it doesn't butt up against Dice Tower East which is the first week of July. Really hard to take vacation that close together.
Level up was awesome. As to the sorting of games I do not think you need too. My experience was walking in Friday morning and someone was pulling Moonraker off the shelf and said I have always wanted to play this and myself and two other people said I will play that with you and we sat down and played. That group played Oathsworn next, punched, learned and set up the games then played one boss encounter. It was awesome. My only kind of critique is American snacks suck. You should bring in some Canadian snacks and really blow people's minds hahaa.

I appreciate you Tim....I can't wait to see you again.
It was SO great to see and meet you Alex!!! Hopefully we will be able to meet up more in the future!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉

I second this. Hotel staff clearly valued quality customer service and the guest experience.
Congrats, Alex! Sounds like a wonderful inaugural event. Hope to make it some day. Cheers!
Thanks David!
Glad to hear that it was a success. I haven't attended any cons yet, but I'm hoping to start doing so next year.
Super fun to hear the recap! Would love to hear how it was for Meg and Devon! Maybe next livestream?

Would love to someday. Just a LONG way from Utah.
I'm offended! You played on Tour with Meg, meg's friend, and myself lol (i'm terrible with names, sorry meg's friend!)
Lol that would do it :)
