  • Take a walk with me at a small abandoned gravel quarry on the "loneliest highway in America" in Sevier County, Utah. I've made several videos showcasing some small pieces of blue chalcedony from this locale. A short overview of the area could help you find this place if you're willing to explore, but if not, I hope you enjoy seeing it and learning about it here from the Gemstone Journalist.

    Awesome find. I live in Sevier county we find lots of crazy stuff while looking for gold. Just yesterday we broke up some conglomerate rock and found a big chunk of meteorite and a little gold. Thanx for sharing I may have to look for some of that blue rock.

      I spent a lot of time gold prospecting when I first got started learning about rocks and geology. Gold was what really got me into rockhounding. You can't help but learn things about other minerals, and it just naturally led me to paying attention to other potential values.
      I have heard about some pretty good gold and native platinum around Joseph, but never learned where. Not to mention the Spanish gold found in the mountains somewhere close by.

    Yes, it does look a lot like blue chalcedony. A friend brought some back after a trip to Greece.

    I seen people digging there earlier this summer. I wonder if it was you. Im also a Sevier county resident

      Not sure. I was out there this summer to make this video, but wasn't there for very long, and really only poked around the surface. I know I've told quite a few people about this spot, and some have visited because of this video. I use to never see people there.

    Amazing! I've driven through there many times without a clue that I was passing up that bluetiful blue. Thank you for sharing.

      It's a beautiful area, and there's a lot of amazing rocks in the area... If you know where to look.

    Nice finds. Are you able to indicate what area you were in?

    • @GemstoneJournalist
      @GemstoneJournalist  2 месяца назад +3

      Yes, it's pretty amazing stuff. This is on Bureau of Land Management lands, and as I mentioned in the video, it is publicly accessible, but I'm hoping I left just enough clues for you to find it on your own.
      Edit and to clarify: always check land management and mineral claims status to avoid trespassing or mineral trespassing.*

      I like ya didn't exactly tell where u were but should be really easy enough to find .. all but the multiple washes to choose from.. but that's the entire part of tromping round ..to see what ya can find .. wish in the area I'd check it out .. but we got rocks here .

      @@cnone3785 truth be told, if you ended up in the wrong wash, you'd still likely find something interesting. This area is saturated with interesting agates. But ultimately, yes, it's about the adventure moreso than what you can find. If you follow the clues in the video, it's pretty easy to find this spot though. Best of luck!

      @@aspenglow13 I recall hearing that, but haven't seen it up close myself. In some cases, Oolite can be found in limestone and marble, and I believe they are commonly found with diatoms (in diatomaceous earth deposits).
