One of the biggest and most iconic hits of the late 70s, Lay it on the line by Triumph. Alexis really liked Rik Emmett's ability to play and sing.

Triumph was a great band. For some reason the Canadian bands like them kind of got over looked. Triumph, Rush, April Wine, Loverboy, were all great bands. Like you said people listened to them on the radio but never really went out of there way to find out more about them. Rush was more of an exception. People followed them more but still as good as they were they were under rated. I was never a fan of Rush but listen to the rest of them. Again like you said as good as they were I didn't own an album. Triumph was older so they didn't get into the glam look. That said all of the Canadian bands I can think of were more conservative
Loved all those and actually had albums
One of the most underrated bands of all time!!!
Agreed, they were popping the 1st half of the 80s in Texas. Saw them twice, absolutely bad a$$. Oh I miss those days.
Have you checked out the documentary about them from 2021? It's a must-see!@notablindliberal896
It's called Rock and Roll Machine.
Absolutely, and she hit the nail on the head. Mad respect for not just Rik Emmit, but all three of them were extremely talented instrumentally and vocally, though Rik's range and guitar solos were both insane. Highly underrated, but glad to see one of the best bands of the late 70s early 80s getting introduced to newer generations. In my opinion, hands down, Triumph is in the top five three piece bands. Right up there with the likes of legends like The Police, Rush, and Cream.
Absolutely!
Triumph is sadly underrated! Watch the "US Festival" concert and you will become a Triumph fan.
They stole that day on a bill that included Van Halen, Judas Priest and Motley Crue
@@princeofpcos9804 Them and Scorpions.
I was there at the U.S Festival in 83 and they were killer! Triumph fan for life!
I saw them in late 1984 about a year after the US Festival. Amazing show!
I heard Triumph played that show on like zero notice as well. They weren't even on the bill originally. Tremendous performance.
There’s no singer/guitar player better than Rik Emmett !!! a virtuoso !!
Yeah he is up there...trying to think of some..
Eric Johnson not a better singer..maybe a better player
Michael Sweet from Stryper
John Skyes
You're right he is at right at the top of great singer great guitarist
Forgot to mention two monsters
Jerry Cantrell
Ty Tabor
Right on my friend!!!!!!!
Triumph is a very good, positive message band. You might want to listen to Magic Power, Fight the Good Fight, Follow Your Heart, Hold On, Spellbound, A World of Fantasy.
Thank you. Was trying hard to remember the names of the songs. LOL Damn floppies in my head glitched.
Never surrender is amazing too
Ordinary Man !
'Magic Power' is my favourite of theirs, especially the US Festival '83 live version 😊
Which also had been the very first Triumph song I'd ever heard, and only 3 years ago, too! Despite having known them by name for literally decades 😅
Nice list
Rik Emmett is an Absolute Legend a great Vocalist and a Maestro on Guitar
“Fight the Good Fight” is a must-listen
Triumph is ridiculously good. Gil Moore, the drummer also sings. You should check them out at the US festival in 1983. They tore the place down.
I had the privilege of seeing them in concert in 1987 I think it was, if not 1988. Incredible show.
Another great trio from Canada!!!
They had two great singers.
Almost 50 Years Later and Triumph is finnaly getting the credit they deserve!! A True Rock n Roll Legend!! Go Canada!!
Another great Canadian band April Wine.
And Tragically Hip
"I ain't giving anyone a fucken R" - Bubbles
One of my favorite songs ever. Rick Emmitt, rythem guitar, lead guitar, and lead vocals. Another canadian 3 piece masterpiece
That voice, those harmonies, those guitars, that solid base line, and those rocking drums. This is Triumph. What an amazing band. 🤘🤘
Seen em at the 83 US Festival great show...
I was also there and they were phenomenal. Great show it was just HOT.
@@michaelhillmann3460 105 and dusty...
Fantastic footage of that concert! I prefer watching clips of Triumph from that festival. They sound phenomenal live.
Great to see you doing Triumph. They didn't get the recognition they deserved. Other great songs to do in the future - Fight the Good Fight, Magic Power and Hold on
Best venue to do videos from - 1983 US Festival.
Ordinary Man is one of their best deep cuts
One of the best Canadian rock bands ever!
I would never say that Triumph was a predominantly 70s band as most of their success came in the 80s.
Their best tunes were in the 70s. That's like saying The Stones were predominantly a 70s band because they had more success (sales) then.
@@yourebusted5786 The Stones have been around for six decades and Triumph was around for two; so, no.
@@yourebusted5786 you are absolutely right they were formed in the late 70s and definitely came to light through the 80s. I first saw them in 1980 first band Triumph then Aldo Nova then Blue oyster cult than Journey. Triumph was little know at that time, the next time I saw them was US 83 by that time they were pretty well-known.
Great choice, Burch. Listen to Triumph all the time. They are an amazing Canadian band.
The US FESTIVAL is a must watch 😅😊
The "other" and mostly under-rated and overlooked Canadian power trio rock band. Vocal range and guitar prowess.
This girl loves this. Hold on and Magic Power on my playlist for years. Great choice you two.
Hello Tamera, see you at the live...🤘👽🤘
Check out any of songs they performed at the US Festival in 1983. They killed it there!
Massively underated band deserved so much more success. Especially for follow your heart
I was lucky to see Triumph in 1979 right after this song came out. I was a 14 yr old kid on the front row directly in front of Rik Emmett. Goosebumps the whole night!!
Such a full sound for a three member band.
Not to take away from Rik, but when the drummer plays and sings at the same time, THAT earns my respect!
Gil Moore also takes lead vocals
Great band. You should have her watch Fight the Good Fight from the US Festival. His vocals are terrific.
Second that
Time for some Aldo Nova Burch!
Fantasy is awesome.
As a canadian myself, i can say that i'm proud to have bands like RUSH and Triumph coming from our country, another great 3 piece canadian band, also the drummer in Triumph, Gil Moore is also a lead singer. Other songs you guys could do are : Follow Your Heart, Hold On, Spellbound, Magic Power, Allied Forces, Never Surrender. Cheers from Montreal, Canada!! 🤘😎🤘
And do not forget; Fight the good Fight 😊
Triumph was an incredible band!!!
Magic Power from the US Festival really showcases Rick's vocals.
They are one of the most crimanlly unrecognized Rock Bands of all time!!!
Hell, this dirt road country boy used to crank Triumph in 1981!
Canada was cranking out some kick ass Rock and Roll, their beer...
Triumph, lived up to their name, they conquered!!
You sound like me
Haha. Same here!😊
Rik is a phenomenal vocalist, musician and writer. Together as a 3 piece band, they rocked!
It was weird how underrated they were, yet they would still sell out an arena two nights every time they came through town in the 80's. Loved seeing them live.
Yes! Considered one of the best live shows behind Kiss..😊
This one n HOLD ON are masterpieces ! 🎸🎧🎶
I saw Triumph is 1988 as the headliner with bad company as the opener in Hollywood, Fl. Still remember how much we loved it.
YES!! Triumph was awesome!! Rik Emmitt teaches music at Humber College of Music in Toronto, Canada. Still sounds amazing
I will stop complaining now. You finally did Triumph! Rick's voice is excellent. He makes it seem so effortless at the high ranges. I have watched vocal coaches reacting to his singing and they are mezmerized. Some said they will show their students his clips to demonstrate how to properly do mixed voice. Thanks for reviewing.
Rik was the best combination singer and lead guitarist that I ever saw !
Check out their live sets from the 1983 US Festival, if you want to really hear his vocals go off the charts! Rik is so talented. What a blessing for music lovers!😊
Man this takes me back, such a great band. You know you're good when you're a 3 piece band that sounds so hmfull. Something in the Canadian water back then . We were all crushing on Rick at the time, so talented. He still does small acoustic gatherings, wish I could have seen them Live.
One of the most underrated guitarplayers ever. ❤🤘🎸
Are you guys kidding?I've been into triumph since they started very underrated band with lots of good fights.Another good one
If you get to more Triumph, and I hope you do, check out the 1983 US Festival footage. Saw them in the early 80's, just after they added the lasers to their live shows, and they were great. Rik is a fantastic talent.
If you interviewed Rik Emmett, he would talk your ear off. A friend of mine, Anne Erickson, interviewed him for her RUclips channel, Audio Ink Radio, a couple of times, and his responses would carry on and on. I'm sure if you reached out to him, he would be glad to be interviewed. He could tell you stories about Triumph, but also his post-Triumph days as well as his teaching music and songwriting at Humber College in Toronto.
He sang as great as he played, one of a kind.
Rick Emmett is a monster on the guitar with an amazing vocal range
I haven't seen any other guitar player that can rock hard, lost of solos and then play accustic guitar without missing a note; live! The best!😊
I loved Triumph during middle and high school!!!!
When the Lights Go Down from the US Fest is a must. Gil Moore(drummer) on lead vocals. Just awesome!!!
I saw them in a concert promotion called The Summit of Rock and Roll in 1986 . Triumph 🇨🇦 Mountain 🇺🇸 &.Loudness 🇯🇵 Awesome. So Great to see Leslie West & Rik Emmett
Triumph! Rik Emmett is incredibly talented. I remember he came to the music store I used to teach at like 20 years ago and conducted a seminar/live Q&A session. I didn't know he had such great classical guitar chops. Great guy as well.
You have to watch them at the US Festival in 83 amazing
Thanks for playing triumph, there are many more great tracks from another great Canadian trio... Other great tracks are fight the good fight and spellbound... You guys do a great job!!
Despite the added crowd sounds, this was the studio version. To get the full power and awesomeness of Triumph, you must listen to the live version from 1983s US Festival. Also, the song Never Surrender from the same US Festival show will blow your mind! And listen When The Lights Go Down from the same show to hear Dummer Gil Moore sing lead while playing drums.
Y&T lead singer Dave Meniketti has been singing from the early 70s to today and played lead guitar from the start. He played everything from rock to blues
100%
My Fav track by Triumph is follow your heart
Thats a great song one of my favorites
There are power trio’s and there is Triumph. Such a great band.
Rick Emmett lives about three hours from me. The last time I seen him was 2016 doing acoustic set just him on stage with a keyboard guy. He said about 30 feet from 200 people
Rik also is a song writer as well. Rik WAS in a glam band in around 1973 for about a yr. called Justin Paige. They even have an album that Rik played on. Spelling of his first name was Rick back then. His memoir has photos of them on stage with their cross dressing clothes and makeup. It was quite the look.
Burch.........Triumph was such a talented & Great Candian Band!!!!! They're one of my all Time Favorites!!!!
A great singer and underrated guitarist of the time!!!! 😮😊
She needs to hear “Follow your heart”
Saw these guy's live in Amarillo Tx 1983, one of the best Concerts I've ever been to.
Fight the good fight. Higher power. Lots of great Triumph songs.
Triumph.................-----------******* AWESOME SONG **********----------------..............Lay It On The Line
Another great and powerful trio. Only a handful.
Well, Alexis, if you or your hubby ever listen to classic rock radio, you've undoubtedly heard them at one point or another. It's a staple!
Never surrender, magic power, etc. you have to listen to magic power. A perfect explanation of what music meant to us Gen Xers. Great lyrics, and music!
This is on my all time playlist. My high school love turned me on to Triumph & her. 🔥😎
I LOVE Triumph. Grossly underrated band. Follow Your Heart is probably my favorite song.
Their live set at the US Festival is amazing and worth the watch.
Please watch them at US festival 83, they were phenomenal! Love your show!
I love all the first run Triumph albums with Emmet.
"Hold On" is my favorite Triumph song.
Another band that you might not be very familiar with that you should check out is UFO. They were a major influence on bands like Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Metallica and Guns N' Roses. I would suggest Lights Out, Love To Love, Doctor Doctor and Too Hot To Handle to start with from their live album "Strangers In The Night" - largely considered one of the best live rock albums ever recorded.
Saw Rik Emmett play a solo show in the early 2000's, and for free. One of those after work outdoor concert series shows, in downtown Buffalo. Great show,
Another great 3 piece band from Canada along with Rush! Rock on !!
It was more of their peak around 82-85. My favorite concert was in 1983, Never Surrender Tour. Magic Power should be your next Triumph listen.
Never heard of Triumph until Magic Power broke in 1981. Heard a lot of great songs by them
I saw Triumph, The Sport Of Kings tour in Norman, Oklahoma, while stationed at Fort Sill Oklahoma and Rik Emmet solo twice here in Utah.
Triumph...a great Canadian export! Loved the band back in the 70's when I first heard them!
HUGE Canadian Band, I never knew of them until I moved from Alabama to northern Minnesota and all we got was Canadian stations out of Winnipeg. Head Pins are worth a listen as well.
One of my favorite Rik solo songs is Stand And Deliver. I think it is exceptional.
Love this band !! My very first concert in Houston at the summit. Saw them two more times after that. An amazing Rock show no doubt!
Was just talking about this band to a younger guy at work today. He never heard of Triumph and the moment he listened to this song, he bought their album on Amazon today lol. He's a new fan.
Saw them live three times back in the day. Excellent live band and live show, tons of pyro with a laser show. 🤘
Another Canadian gem of a band! Glad you (finally!) got to them.
In the early eighties, Triumph were all over rock radio, Allied Forces is a great album
I saw Triumph at the Capital Center in DC. I think in 1980 or 81. I was shocked years later because of all the shows I have seen it was the loudest big venue show I had ever seen. Loudest small venue show was the 1st time I saw KIX at the old Hammerjacks in Baltimore.
Great band, saw them live in the late 70s in Seattle. Amazing concert!
Rik could hit F-Sharp anytime he wanted to. There are very few people who can do it. Steve Perry visited Rik after a show and said he was impressed by Rik's high D and E. Rik is a better guitarist than singer. He's a solid top 5 and can play almost anything and play with feeling. He's also a great writer, comic, artist and teacher.
Triumph had the #1 concert in rock for a few years. Yep, they beat Van Halen and The Jacksons.
As far as song suggestions go, many folks will suggest tunes that ranked well in the rock charts, and you should check out 'Magic Power' and 'Fight the Good Fight'. I, however feel that their best tunes are rarely requested. So, 'Blinding Light Show', 'The City (all of it in 2 parts)', 'In The Night', "Just a Game', 'Young Enough to Cry', 'I Live for the Weekend', 'Hard Road', 'Ordinary Man', 'Little Boy Blues', Hold On (album version, not the radio edit)', 'Allied Forces', 'Rock and Roll Machine (live Stages album or live at the US Festival)'
Triumph, like Rush, is another power-trio from Canada. They did a great set at the US Festival in 1983. Follow Your Heart, Fight the Good Fight and Magic Power are a few other great tracks from them.
One of rock's most underappreciated bands, in part due to Rush being the bigger 3 piece band out of Canada. Magic Power, Little Texas Shaker, Fight the good fight, Hold on, Never surrender, Somebody's out there, Spellbound all great songs and more!
Triumph has always been one of my favorite bands since 1979.
Still to this day one of the best shows i've ever seen from back in the early 80's (on tour with Zebra) and still in my rotation to this day 🙂
Rik is very close to 70 years old now and can still hit some pretty high notes. His son hits the really high stuff now.
Triumph is GREAT. I promise if you play their song Fight The Good Fight from their performance "Live At The US Festival' you wont believe it. It's a truly live version from the US Festival back in 83 0r 84. This song and performance blew every band off the stage including headliner Van Halen. I believe there was over 500,000 in attendance. Rik Emmett absolutely shines as does Triumphs other two band members. Unbelievable 3 man band.
One of the best bands Ive seen live as well as Rik solo. They match up against any other 3 piece band in the world at the time in terms of vocals and virtuousity.
First album i got was Sport of Kings, got the rest soon afterwards. I had a friend ask me if I wanted this album because it was to heavy( his words) for him, I said sure. Loved it , thanks Kenny.
I seen them in Ottawa Canada because they are Canadian just like rush three men band in 1986 fantastic concert
