Robin Gibb! What an ethereal voice...chills and teary eyes, miss him. Thank you for this double feature Chad an amazing addition. R.I.P Robin Hugh Gibb CBE Gone but never forgotten 🙏💙
First, picture yourself at 16. Then think about what Robin could do at the same age. Robin and his brothers truly were "brilliant from birth." I very much enjoyed hearing both versions. The 50 St. Catherine's Drive version gives me chills, because you can hear a lifetime of happiness, sadness and everything in between in his voice.
The thing about the Bee Gees is that the boys have been singing so long that they must have been singing through the breaking of their voices and I wonder if the 16 year old Robin was going through this time when he recorded the first version of 'I am the World'. I think both are lovely. The adult Robin addmited once that he did get to his high notes operatically.
You’re so right…his voice is so incredible!!! Even at 16…it was unbelievable!!! Thanks for this Chad!!! You rock to this old lady who has been a BG and Robin fan for over 50 years… you make me smile 😊
OMG!!! I haven't heard this song in forever. The minute it started I just remembered hearing it as a very, very young person. My cousins older than me listened to the Bee Gees. Robin's voice is the one that has stayed with me. The one that just made me remember him as the singer in the Bee Gees...I started a joke, Massachusetts ❤❤❤❤
WHY ARE MY EYES WATERING??????????? So touching to see him with Ollie and Misty, his beloved Irish wolfhounds and in the dreary cemetery. Heartbreaking. In that video he said to Barry, "We know it will come, we just don't know how or when". They were visiting their old haunts in Manchester and The Isle of Mann. Robin was always a proud Manx and Brit at heart, loving British history and living in his ancient home feeling like a part of that history. He believed in reincarnation so who knows? You can be raised in a musical environment and it helps for sure but his voice was a god given gift and to write those lyrics at that age!!! Astounding! Oh, to be the woman with the smile and outstretched hand @6:28. He didn't hesitate for a second to return the appreciation! His voice did mature for the last version but both were stunning. RIP our beloved SONGBIRD!
It’s sad to think that cemetery is where he is buried, just across a lane, opposite his house. There is a knd lady, who travels, twice a week, from London,to put flowers on,and keep it looking nice.I’d like to thank her.👏❤️🌷🇬🇧

I love both versions but I think I like the later one better with the slightly altered tune. The lyrics are beautiful (when you hurt me, then I become the night time) especially when written and sung beautifully aged 16 and then 58. St Catherine's Drive is a great album.
Exactly my thought. At age 16 ..to write something so poetic. His voice gave life to those beautifully written words. Something Robin did that many couldn't.
Chad I am here again. I agree with everything you said about the two renditions of Robin singing I am the world..., I am shedding a tear 😢so beautiful....❤️🙏❤️

Windows down, volume high and go. Don't care about people looking.

Listening to these 2 versions of Robin reminds me of when I listened to the Everly Brothers Reunion concert. The were great in their youth, but once they matured their voices became so much richer. They were all so young when they started performing that their true voices hadn't matured yet.
Both versions are beautiful in their own way. Robin's voice is outstanding even at such a young age. But I prefer the later recording..His voice is so much smoother and matured I may just imagine it, but it seems to me that the first version reflects the hopes and desires you have when your whole life is still ahead of you. 50 St. Catherine's Drive is the seventh and final album by singer-songwriter Robin Gibb, released on 29 September 2014 in the United Kingdom and 30 September 2014 in the United States on Rhino Records.[1] The album was named after the address on the Isle of Man where Gibb and his family lived. The album was also co-produced and remastered by his son Robin-John Gibb (RJ Gibb) who had two years previously, composed the album ‘Titanic Requiem’ with his father. For 50 St. Catherine’s Drive Robin-John also composed and produced, with his father, the songs ‘Instant Love’ and ‘One Way Love’ the latter song ‘One Way Love’ which Robin and Robin-John both composed and produced along with their long-term family friend, former BBC DJ and host of ‘Top of the Pops’ Mike Read and the former song ‘Instant Love’ features Robin-John singing with his father.[2] The final track ‘Sydney’ is the last song ever recorded by Robin Gibb, a song which he had intended to sing together with Barry, however his health sadly would not permit it, and the duet would never be. So Robin-John (RJ) called Elliot Cohen who owns the famous Red Bus Recording Studios in London, reserved a space for a month, and eventually emerged after finally producing a poignant song worthy of airplay and commercial release, from what was originally a rough iPad GarageBand recorded demo.[3] The album was released two years after his death in 2012.[4] As well as the production of ‘Sydney’ all the other unreleased tracks were remastered at Red Bus Recording Studios in London.[1] The album reached No. 70 in the United Kingdom and No. 39 in Germany. I prefer the 2nd version. Robins voice had matured into the voice we'll never forget. RIP Robin 💜
I had him pegged out at his first tv performance in Sydney with Barry and Mo with Wine and Women. I think he was only 8 yrs old??? Or maybe 13 idk. But he caught my eye (,out of the three). I knew then he was something special.....His voice at age 16 singing "Somewhere" was spellbinding. I Am the World. ,. Is beautiful at that young age. And the latter version just exemplifies his astounding voice.....still love "Oh darling". Of his take on it... It's my all time fave of his......along without Rings Around the Moon...Noone can duplicate or come even close to his voice....
Loved how Robin used to turn his head and looked right at the camera. And gave a sexy grin, and a would hold a stare....I certainly never took him as the shy type . He was quite the hamm.. at such a young age..he had all the makings of a heartthrob
Barry said a lot of people would mimic his voice because it was easy to do (not IMO) but they never mimicked Robin's because it was unique and impossible to copy.
@@susieq9801 Yes,,, I don't know what Barry meant by THAT comment either.. Barry's voice was all his own, too.....but different from his brothers.....Barry's was very strong, somewhat "bold" , and a bit of country "twang" in alot of his songs, and he could hold a note into eternity like no other....MO (to me) sounded like a dead ringer to John Lennon.....in some of his solos,,,,,and also very "country" in some ....but Robin's voice was sssooo different,,, almost can't put your finger on it....sublime, silky,,,,,are two good words as descriptions,, BUT (I'm gonna be critical here) I didn't like it when Robin went for a "reach" and tried to shoot for a high note that was over his head, and his voice would almost "crack"...he was pushing it too hard,,,and he would become too nasally,,,you could hear it.... but not all the time...just once in a while....but I loved MOST of his LIVE performances,,,, especially in the early to mid 70's.... I thought he was gorgeous,,,,,,he was ssssooo handsome/sexy....he made me SWOON
I'll have to add,,,, that, (IMO) Barry's signature song is "Words",,,,thats his TRUE voice, (no falsetto) and i can't think of ANYONE who could/can duplicate his voice on that song......and the vibration he holds on the end of it,,,,,,,CLASSIC Barry Gibb
This song has, since I heard it many years a go, been my favorite of the australian recordings. It is still in my opinion the best version but the later is also great but a little more melancholy.
Love this Chad. So interesting to compare the two versions. I do like latest version best but both are beautiful! Robins voice is incredible. Thank you for this Chad!!! His mature voice is so rich and strong!!!
Listening to this again -- the comparison of Robin at an early stage in his musical career and then as a seasoned performer, one name came immediately to mind. Roy Orbison. I had to go back and listen to "in Dreams" to confirm my impression. Two masters. A voice as smooth as silk, that could yet cause the earth to open up, gradually rise in pitch as the song progresses, going to heights that you thought weren't possible. I on e heard Barry, talking about his own voice, comment that Robin's natural voice was actually higher than his. The stretch of Robin's range makes me want to agree with him.
I've never heard this before so thanks so much for introducing both versions. You Rock Chad! His voice and words of the song are beautiful. Love, Love the guitar 🎸 and the Instrumentals on both versions too.
Those cobbled lanes he and Barry were in, that's behind their house at 51 Keppel Road in Manchester. That's how they went to the now gone Gamount theatre that Saturday to lip sync on stage. The famous corner where Mo dropped the record (Barry: "in those days, records broke folks!) And they had to sing live.
The building that was The Gaumont still stands. It was a funeral home for years. Now developers want it so Robin's cousin is valiantly trying to arrange its purchase by a community based group for use by the community in Chorlton.
Chad, that's wild that's the year I got married. And I was 16, the twins were only 6 months older than me.IIts amazing how great they were already.💖💖💖 great weekend chad.🎶🎶🎶🎶💞💞
While you are listening to this masterpiece ,remember Robin was only sixteen when he wrote and recorded this song. It was the 'B' side to 'Specks and Specks' and to me the far better song.
Great reactions as always! Another favorite BG’s song and one of Robin’s very early (first?) compositions. The earlier versions are always my favorites. Hope you can do Avalanche someday (also 1970 & 2014)
I didn't realise Avalanche was an old song and thought it was written in 2004-2008. I do like Avalanche and I Am the World best on 50 St Catherine's Drive which is now not surprising as I like the Bee Gees early work best.
Some lyrics from Avalanche; "And with my back against the wall,....You gave my voice no chance at all!" "Can you throw me a life-line!?" 💜Avalanche!!💜 Awesome song with very poignant lyrics!!😉😎
Hi, Chad: I like them both. Since you are doing every Bee Gees song in existence, you should react to Portrait of Louise from 2 Years On. One of my favourites.
Robin really like this song as he chose it for inclusion in the box set Mythology in 2010, the only Australian recording included. You can hear the differences in the production styles and Robin's vocals. The newer version is much more grand than the original and he sings at a lower key, which is expected as Robin was approaching 60 years old.
If you want any other late Robin songs, and you're feeling emotionally strong enough, then "Sydney" is absolutely beautiful but heartbreaking. It was written as he was dying and reflects on his memories growing up with his brothers in Australia.
I can't bear to listen to that song. RJ attempted to finish it but Robin's voice is so frail and the sentiment so heart breaking that it's almost unbearable. He just recorded it on an iPad on his death bead. He cried as he sang it and Dwina cried as she watched him.
Sydney is the one song on the 50SCD album that I heard once and can never listen to again. I sobbed at his loss then. He cried writing it. I miss having him in this world. However, went to his grave today and it is refreshing to see how many tributes have been left there again. It is literally full of flowers. He is still alive in so many hearts and that he touches so many lives and is still loved is a wonderful legacy.
@@susieq9801 The heart crushing lines; "The battle's won now........the price was High."💔 I could be interpreting it wrong, but I don't think so. I feel Robin was alluding to his and Barry's life-long struggles with each other. "Sydney" is as heart breaking as it gets.
I just got done reading the Rolling Stones top 500 albums of all times list and I am so ticked I almost threw my phone in the toilet. They had all of the Beastie Boys albums on the list, and the only thing of the Brothers Gibb was the Fever soundtrack, that is so warped! They had more of Janet Jackson listed than Michael and he was much more popular than her, sold many more albums. There were groups I'd never heard of, (and I listen to the radio all day), and tons of famous groups they left off. ABBA had one compilation album listed. While some artists and groups got lots of their albums put in. It began to look like staff favorites with an "uh oh we better put a few other people that everyone's heard of in here" situation. I've lost what little respect I had for them. With all the awards they've won, number one songs they've had and written, and their records in album sales, you would think that the Bee Gees would get some respect from those jerks. Some people just wouldn't recognize talent if it walked up and sang in perfect three part harmony in front of them with an awesome melody and great guitar and keyboard playing with an incredible drumbeat to go along 😀 Robin's vibrato has the affect of lifting. I think the latter recording shows the depth of control he has learned over his voice with time. It sounds better.
Trisha, say what you really feel, LOL! 😄 I am with you all the way. Some of the absolute cr@p that people think is good music is an insult to the ears and mind.
I don't care about all those so called music-critizens and magazines. One thing is clear to recognize, bros. Gibb went to top of fame, without much help of medias at all! The only thing, those so called music-experts arrived is, they climbed up at once to the top of ignorance and arrogance.
I have a hard time listening to this, not because it isn't good (I think it is brilliant), but because of the back story of the later version. As I recall, the songs on Robin's last album were recorded by him and found on his iPad by his youngest son, RJ, after his death. The songs were subsequently finished and released post mortem. The entire album sounds to me like the words of a man who knows he doesn't have much time left, and he is recording his memories. A couple of songs, in particular Sydney and a couple of others, show the weakening of that magnificent voice. That, and the recall of his boyhood memories, is almost painful. By the way, I heard Robin say, in an interview, that he was a strong believer in reincarnation. I wonder if he has returned, and what form he has taken?
You're on top, Chad! Big hugs from Bavarian. Great idea, making a couple of both versions. Also must say, thanks for equality on this weekend, so you reacted twotimes to songs, sung by Barry and Robin. And we know, you'll never forget about Maurice. Here are some possible couples, you could also give a chance: 1. 'On Time', version of Bee Gees and lateron by Maurice, 2. 'With The Sun In My Eyes', Bee Gees-version and bonustrack on Barry's album 'Greenfields', 3. 'My Lovers Prayer', Bee Gees-version and lateron on Robin Gibb, live with the 'Frankfurt Phil. Orchestra'. But never checkout both versions of 'Wish You Were Here' (written with Andy in mind), so Robin changed that song on his album 'Magnet'. Was a big disapointment for Barry, those days.

I think Robin truly loved Molly,,,,so sad things didn't work out for them..
Esse vídeo é muito emocionante! Amo Robin Gibb! Ele tinha uma voz incrível! Robin é meu preferido dos Bee Gees! Quantas saudades! 😥❤👏👏👏👏👏🇧🇷
Just fantastic 😍
wonderful!
Great idea. Wonderful. 🥰
Not only could they sing and write like that at such a young age, but Barry’s song writing was so very mature.
Gifted is the word!
I believe Robin wrote this song, not Barry
@@suekilpatrick4758 yes he did, it was one of the very few at that time, with Barry writing the majority of the songs.
One broken record and history was born.
@@susieq9801 yes! Mo's blunder turned out for the best!
The building that was The Gaumont still stands. It was a funeral home for years. Now developers want it so Robin's cousin is valiantly trying to arrange its purchase by a community based group for use by the community in Chorlton.
New to me , what a voice ❤❤❤
Some lyrics from Avalanche;
"And with my back against the wall,....You gave my voice no chance at all!"
"Can you throw me a life-line!?"
💜Avalanche!!💜 Awesome song with very poignant lyrics!!😉😎
Hi, Chad: I like them both. Since you are doing every Bee Gees song in existence, you should react to Portrait of Louise from 2 Years On. One of my favourites.
Robin really like this song as he chose it for inclusion in the box set Mythology in 2010, the only Australian recording included. You can hear the differences in the production styles and Robin's vocals. The newer version is much more grand than the original and he sings at a lower key, which is expected as Robin was approaching 60 years old.
👏👏👊
If you want any other late Robin songs, and you're feeling emotionally strong enough, then "Sydney" is absolutely beautiful but heartbreaking. It was written as he was dying and reflects on his memories growing up with his brothers in Australia.
I can't bear to listen to that song. RJ attempted to finish it but Robin's voice is so frail and the sentiment so heart breaking that it's almost unbearable. He just recorded it on an iPad on his death bead. He cried as he sang it and Dwina cried as she watched him.
I believe I heard RJ say it was his last recording.
@@dp3396 - It was.
@@susieq9801 The heart crushing lines;
"The battle's won now........the price was High."💔
I could be interpreting it wrong, but I don't think so. I feel Robin was alluding to his and Barry's life-long struggles with each other.
"Sydney" is as heart breaking as it gets.
Sounds a bit like Massachusetts.
Chad plz view their Cherry Red. Sooo smooth
Robin was the lyric poet of The Bee Gees. Without him there would have been a lot more la, la, las, nah, nah, nahs, and boring word salads.
