For a promotional video for cymbals - the cymbals are terribly mixed... can barely hear some of them. In fact, the whole kit mix is awfully unbalanced...
Very cool version. Mike is not one of my favourite drummers but I can tell he plays better than me and better than 99.9% of the guys who spend their time here at youtube.
Aryan Oberoi maybe it's for symmetry all around, so when you see the kit it's visually pleasing. Because like the bass drums the cymbals are set up in a similar fashion.
A lot of different reasons, he might not be using his own pedal, maybe he used to own two separate pedals and decided to upgrade to a higher quality direct drive, who knows, but being off center is nothing, as long as you hit directly within a radius of like 10 inches you're good
Same here, I've thought that it's probably just pedal design. I was playing drums a minute ago and noticed my pedal has both beaters equally spaced from the center
Cooper Cannabis541 I agree, it might have something to do with sound balancing as well, but I don’t know since I only use single bass with double pedals.
I met Mike in 1994. It was at a Tony McAlpine clinic. Good drummer, and a pretty cool guy. He's changed in recent years. He was more quiet and reserved back then. Now, he seems more "animated". I get that people change, but I'm sometimes curious as to why. His style seems to have stayed consistent with what he was doing back then. It reminds me of the time Kenny Aronoff played with The Smashing Pumpkins - and alternative/grunge band. Kenny got a real weird image thing for that gig, and it just didn't seem to fit.
just watch mike's double bass mechanics tutorial to see what a nice, laidback and humble dude he was back in those days, and did he kick ass, too! and then i remembered i heard somewhere that one of the reasons they parted with rage was his unbearable character, and i thought that's strange, he seems a cool guy.. now he's all about showing off, his drumming didn't get any further, and.. for me thats a little frustrating
Idk why everyone is hating on this guy. I mean he's not the best but his double bass is pretty solid and he's pretty good. I don't personally like paiste too much but he's not half bad. But the sound engineer sucks, I'll agree with that
I remember Mike doing the song at the end, Detonator, from years ago when he was still with Meinl. After he finished explaining each cymbal, I was about to search for it and then as if he read my mind, just pulled it out of the bag haha. The bass drum sounds like a load of farts but those it's great to see that song played with the best choice of cymbals at last. Nice stuff Mike!
Someone hang that sound engineer please! I'm normally not one to go around hating, but for christ sake, this is a cymbal demo, why would you roll everything off so much an dput so much compression on it?! 'Typical live mix' my ass, you're even better off listening to mixed and produced CDs for getting accurate sound examples of the cymbals...
AMAZING.I can't stop watching this video.very educational info too.you're my friend is really something else.one of the best i've ever heard.keep on drumming.Happy new year from Greece.
It´s so funny that drums are also becoming subjects of fashion that goes circles on and on...... I remember Terry Bozzio using almost the same cymbals years ago........ I´m desperately waiting for rototoms coming back.......
Andreas Breitwieser the Visions series made for him back in 1994. As much as I'm not a massive fan of the Colorsound style due to the quicker decay and lack of long sustain, an 18 China/16 crash stack from the 900s would sound awesome. Bring back the Colorsound Novo Chinas too!
These still sound good all these years later. Thst coating really does take the toxic overtones out of the cymbals and give you a nice fundamental pitch. I also usually like thinner cymbals becaue thicker ones ring forever aftrt you hit them, but not these.
I love the direction Paiste has taken with this product line.... color... its 2017 and the cymbal market is in desperate need of some bold, striking COLOR!!!! Personally, I've grown tired of the same old polished gold or raw Turkish foundry look that has dominated the market for years. Once Krest stopped making colored cymbals I wondered who would pick up the torch.... once again, Paiste comes through. Its about time.
to you ladies complaining about his look and tricks, realize this, his timing, dynamics, musicality don't suffer. You don't play behind Malmsteen and Macalpine by being an entertainer.
What's a double bass set without to basses even if you use a double bass pedal?!? Lol, I do the same with my set👍 Anyways I'm thinking about getting the colorsound 900s. Idk yet though but that guy was right about the altered sound on the cymbals with this being a CYMBAL SOUND VIDEO! It seems a little bias in my opinion. BUT great video and very informative!
@@eynamouthole3336 I never understood why the 2 bass drums had to sound the same. I have an old Ludwig double bass set that stays at the house and I have both kicks tuned differently.
Mike terra a is great, his work with the guys in masterplan is awesome!! And yes... I really like the cymbals! Everyone is playing dark trashy meinl cymbals today, these Paiste are singing like I want them to'
My first love was Paiste cymbals, but they really don't accommodate jazz players anymore. Most all of their cymbals are thick and heavy, even their "Thin" lines. a 20 inch ride that weighs 2000 grams is not thin. 1800 grams is more like what us jazz guys like, but those are just oddities in their lines. The thin beautiful sounding cymbals that Greg Hutchinson and Steve Jordan play aren't the ones you can find in stores, that's why I don't quite agree that Paiste is so consistent.
They offer the Traditional line for Jazz. Very high end cymbals. And consistency has to do with how they sound within a line, same sizes and models. A 19" Signature Full Crash will sound the same from a store in Europe or US. They're that good. You can't say that about other brands, maybe except Meinl.
check out the paiste sign.dark energy, giant beat, big beat, twenty masters and a couple modern essentials models great for jazz and rock. those pst7 are also pretty thin and soundet awesome for the price
I don’t understand having 2 kicks when you are only using 1 main kick with a double pedal. Not a fan of “these just for show” setups. Just shows the person is wanting to look cool.
Hey Paiste .... i'm gonna do a drum demo on You Tube , so crank up the volume on the double kick, snare and toms , so i can show off my drumming skills .... and turn the volume all the way down on the actual cymbals , so that nobody on planet Earth can actually hear them except maybe dogs ... lol
plus his double bass is not that sloppy its almost right on. You want sloppy listen to me play double bass. well its sloppy when I try to do moderately fast songs like Megadeth- Take no Prisoners plus I started about a month ago.
I'm gonna be as straight out as as possible, I can't understand the reason why someone would use a double kick drum when he's actually playing double pedal, this is a shit! but he is great drummer, that's for sure!
He is a great drummer and you can tell he loves what he is doing. But the problem with musicians like him is it is not about the music anymore. It is just about "Hey, you over there! Did you see what i can do?" And then he hopes for getting a compliment. He is addicted to/hopes for attention....
This has to be the most epic cymbal demo I've seen.
So much energy! This dude is very, very entertaining to watch.
For a promotional video for cymbals - the cymbals are terribly mixed... can barely hear some of them. In fact, the whole kit mix is awfully unbalanced...
A lot of these cymbal videos have bad audio. Too much compression. It's pointless to watch.
PAISTE FOR LIFE !!
AGREE
I didn't realize the singer from Crazytown played drums.
Very cool version. Mike is not one of my favourite drummers but I can tell he plays better than me and better than 99.9% of the guys who spend their time here at youtube.
why does he have a double pedal but has 2 bass drums???
Aryan Oberoi maybe it's for symmetry all around, so when you see the kit it's visually pleasing. Because like the bass drums the cymbals are set up in a similar fashion.
but then wouldnt it be more effective to use 2 pedals because the slave unit will be off center causing a weaker sound
A lot of different reasons, he might not be using his own pedal, maybe he used to own two separate pedals and decided to upgrade to a higher quality direct drive, who knows, but being off center is nothing, as long as you hit directly within a radius of like 10 inches you're good
Oh Zee maybe so but I can tell from experience that hitting off center produces a weaker sound - the overly compressed mixing in this video hides it
Same here, I've thought that it's probably just pedal design. I was playing drums a minute ago and noticed my pedal has both beaters equally spaced from the center
Double pedal with a double bass? Tuning is hard I guess.
I like it. That’s a hard song to interpret and play. Hats off. Nice kit too man.
Wow - this guy is everything I never want to be
Such a clever comment
you will never be as good as him, that's sure
+Fabcra he's alright... Kick was pretty sloppy, playing seemed choppy too. Not saying that he's horrible just that he's nothing all that special.
Hey that is Mike Terrana!
One of the three drumming Mikes. (Mike Portnoy, Mike Mangini) =)
+nickgreeen okay And? Lol his name doesn't make him any better....
Sound awesome.love the black and red
Love this!
Welcome back to the
PAISTE family Mike!
His basses sound like wet farts
Ron Powers I can’t tell if that’s a serious insult or not.
hahaha good one! it's true!
i actually like that tune
Little wet when he gets the doubles going
So mature you are .
What is his left foot bass-drum for?
How does it sound?
Is it tuned?
there are ao many questiona
It’s just there to make the set look cool.
DANTVSVERGIL pretty much. Even though it makes it more lame having a drum you can't use. Hahaha
Cooper Cannabis541 I agree, it might have something to do with sound balancing as well, but I don’t know since I only use single bass with double pedals.
DANTVSVERGIL I think he is using it just for his cymbals and Tom. It is a pain to have to tune two separate kick drums.
Why not just get a drum rack? Hahaha
I met Mike in 1994. It was at a Tony McAlpine clinic. Good drummer, and a pretty cool guy. He's changed in recent years. He was more quiet and reserved back then. Now, he seems more "animated". I get that people change, but I'm sometimes curious as to why.

The setup is crazy!! =-O
Getting me a set of these cymbals to match my Pearl red crystal lite drums with the red drum heads of course !
great cymbals! i love paiste
Angel trumpets, and devil trombones.. You-are-invited..😁
Did this guy play for Tarja Turunen's band a few years ago?
amazing cymbals
Idk why everyone is hating on this guy. I mean he's not the best but his double bass is pretty solid and he's pretty good. I don't personally like paiste too much but he's not half bad. But the sound engineer sucks, I'll agree with that
He's the GOAT
hello guy's, the color stay on the cymbals , year after year?
I remember Mike doing the song at the end, Detonator, from years ago when he was still with Meinl. After he finished explaining each cymbal, I was about to search for it and then as if he read my mind, just pulled it out of the bag haha. Also endorsed by AXE body spray, Golds Gym, Paul Mitchell, Newport cigarettes, and president of the Stryper fan club. . . . :)
dude you just made my fucking day.
Someone hang that sound engineer please!

'Typical live mix' my ass, you're even better off listening to mixed and produced CDs for getting accurate sound examples of the cymbals...
Very talented drummer. nice job!
What was the song at the end?
I loved the second track, is that some of Mike's solo stuf?
AMAZING.I can't stop watching this video.very educational info too.you're my friend is really something else.one of the best i've ever heard.keep on drumming.Happy new year from Greece.
When Paiste can't afford the music license to play a metal song
It´s so funny that drums are also becoming subjects of fashion that goes circles on and on...... I remember Terry Bozzio using almost the same cymbals years ago........ I´m desperately waiting for rototoms coming back.......

Bozio sucks
Such a well articulated and rationalised comment
i like the reverse method for the splash...i will try
viddy well, oh my brother... viddy well😝
These still sound good all these years later. Thst coating really does take the toxic overtones out of the cymbals and give you a nice fundamental pitch. I also usually like thinner cymbals becaue thicker ones ring forever aftrt you hit them, but not these.
Very NIce
cymbals sound great to me and he's a good drummer.
all u stop hating on him ffs
Mike you are amazing, but why the second bass drum, you are not even using it.
Some misunderstanding... - the track and way it's played of course, not cymbals.
I love the direction Paiste has taken with this product line.... color... its 2017 and the cymbal market is in desperate need of some bold, striking COLOR!!!! Personally, I've grown tired of the same old polished gold or raw Turkish foundry look that has dominated the market for years. GO MIKE.TURN ALL THE DRUMKIT TO DUST.FROM GREECE WITH LOVE.
why Teo bass drums if you Play whith double pedal Mike? sorrfor mayo english
dedopalos Manosbakets more drummers do use a double pedal with 2 kicks than you realize (Genn Sobel for instance), the 2 kicks always look killer
to you ladies complaining about his look and tricks, realize this, his timing, dynamics, musicality don't suffer.
You don't play behind Malmsteen and Macalpine by being an entertainer.
It looks like trick bass drum pedals good one mike
everytime i wonde how this Cymbals on the top can be stable
sloppy double bass and the too much stick tricks
Harrison Smooth that's what this guy does. He said himself, he goes for a show over technicality
What’s wrong with stick tricks?
Instantly made me laugh.
I don’t understand the point of s double bad setup with a double pedal
He is a good drummer, and for all the negative remarks,if any of you can do better put up a video.
Love him or hate him. I love him :D
Why does he have 2 bass drums and a double bass pedal?
john doe to keep the sound equal until he gets the other kick to the equal sound
.......those random words made no sense to me.
So I have been questioning myself the same thing, what's the point of two bass drum to end using a double pedal, quite disappointing really
2 basses looks metal but its very hard to get them sound the same, so using a double bass pedal is just for being lazy and wanting to look metal
Stan Boelens if that's true then that's sad and makes me wanna downvote a second time.
The cymbals sound very decent, but I hate the low tuned snare drum. Sounds like a trash can. Terrana is a great player though.
MrNickDrummer Lars?
Hahahaha That is kind of funny because I was thinking about the fact that I liked the snare sound. LOL
Nah
Terrana is always over the top-good.
How that setup on top doesn’t collapse on him I don’t understand. That’s a lot of weight.
Green? Golden? Blue ? Red ? Black?
Doesnt this guy play for Tarja Turunen?
Phantom double bass
yeah whats up with that? do you know?
Totigerus just to look cool.
its usually for tuning purposes. Tuning two bass drums the exact same is a bitch.
I can‘t even afford a rack clamp😂,and he is using a double kick pedal with two bass drums
@@eynamouthole3336 I never understood why the 2 bass drums had to sound the same. I have an old Ludwig double bass set that stays at the house and I have both kicks tuned differently.
Can't hear the cymbals, he sounds off on his kick timing, his drums don't sound good and he's using a double pedal with 2 bass drums! COME ON
Nah stop hating
Mike terra a is great, his work with the guys in masterplan is awesome!! And yes... I really like the cymbals! Everyone is playing dark trashy meinl cymbals today, these Paiste are singing like I want them to'
I'm confused
Para los que dicen que no suenan bien 😍
Double pedal with 2 Kick drums. Actually a good idea. You tune both, and if you break a Kick drum head live.......you just switch them between songs.
Where is the accuracy of double bass ??
Wow
Ugh and they look sound cool....
Viviste esa marcha bos! Maldito ingiñles
Wow, somehow a thumbs up just seems insufficient. Very cool.
Red hot.white bird 's ???
Red , color .beside this.will have some more other .great.guess .what next.good.for .your eyes......
7:09 nice sound
My first love was Paiste cymbals, but they really don't accommodate jazz players anymore. I actually use a couple of crashes for jazz - 17", and 18" Mellow. Still, I'll be getting some Traditionals eventually.
Hogan Bentle love your profile pick!! The tailor on DS9
I don’t understand having 2 kicks when you are only using 1 main kick with a double pedal. Not a fan of “these just for show” setups. Just shows the person is wanting to look cool.
Mike doesn't have the notoriety that many monster drummers have, but I'd rather watch one Mike Terrana over a thousand Mike Portnoy's.
IVE ALWAYS LIKE MIKE, NOT A BIG FAN OF OVERLY ANIMATED DRUMMERS BUT MIKE HAS ALWAYS BEEN A GUY I LIKED WHETHER OR NOT HE IS OFF THE WALL LOL
Wow - this guy is everything I've always wanted to be
should hang those cymbals at the ceiling
The Guy Fieri of drums.
El poder de los bateristas llamados Mike :'v
Mike is very talented but his image can take away from how good he really is! Which should really have nothing to do with his playing.
They are cool looking cymbals but that coating really muffles the sound...
That's why they discontinued the old color sound
Slicin' N' Dicin' then why bring them back?!
because simple: they're shiny and colorful :P
alot of people missed them
The Colorsound line were made differently, if you knew anything about them.
Nao gostie dessas pelis Mas vc Toca muito bem
These symbols suck! I had a few of them purchased from MF and ended up returning them all because they have a honking sound after you hit them.
All white .just imagine 's ......

when you need geometry to set up and negotiate your kit, you've over-engineered.
He is amazing! I don't like the guy who did the sound though... Really doesn't complement the drumming.
Not clear notes.
I'm gonna be as straight out as as possible, I can't understand the reason why someone would use a double kick drum when he's actually playing double pedal, this is a shit! but he is great drummer, that's for sure!
#UltimátumAlRégimen
#SOSVenezuela
he should start admitting he's bold and stop showing off...
The constant stick twirling seems to be what he mastered before drums. Kick was quite atrocious, dude kinda seems like a tool....
NathanDrums atrocious is a great adjective to define it haha
+Jaume Piña Plomer oh you know it ;) haha
He sounded better with Meinl.
well... afterall there is bad promo...
He is a great drummer and you can tell he loves what he is doing. But the problem with musicians like him is it is not about the music anymore. It is just about "Hey, you over there! Did you see what i can do?" And then he hopes for getting a compliment. He is addicted to/hopes for attention....
