About the instruments they are playing:
    Yamaha KX5 Keytar
Chick Corea uses during this concert the Yamaha KX5, a master laptop keyboard from 1984. This is a 37-key keyboard covering a range from C2 to C5 with MIDI connectors permitting the remote stand-up performance of the keyboard instruments.
    Yamaha TRB JP TDR
John Patitucci plays the Yamaha TRB JP II, a 6-string electric bass. The TRB series was born during the'80s to cover a wider tonal range, both in the low and high frequencies. The four-layer laminate body is constructed from veneers of curly maple, ash, alder and maple. This design produces a precise and intense resonance throughout the instrument's register.
    Ibanez 540S-LPF
Frank Gambale plays the 540S-LPF Dessert Yellow. His first signature model, the FGM100 (the first of the Frank Gambale series) by Ibanez, introduced in 1991 is based on this 540S-LPF but has different pickups. The FMG100 was one of the 15 guitars that had been stolen from Frank Gambale house in 2004.
Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone, serial #201695
Eric Marienthal always showed a predilection for the Alto Saxophone. The Mark VI was introduced by Selmer Paris in 1954. Many Jazz giants have used the Mark VI, including Dexter Gordon, Ornette Coleman, Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter and John Coltrane.

@@StreetFighter2010 No Way. Greg's changes playing is still too digressive, too scale based. Corea's music depends on rhythmic interplay so you need a virtuoso who can be melodic and craft the music in real time, interacting, while playing the changes perfectly. Only a few can do that.
Greg's awesome... But he's just another kind of player. I would even say that his blues hand is smoother than Frank's, being Eddie-influenced... But he still lacks Jazz (in the broad sense) in his playing. And that includes phrasing and silence.

What is often forgotten in this world of fusion excess is the various band members' dance moves. Ignore the fact that they are dressed like extras from Miami Vice, or that they are miraculously gifted musicians - bow down to the moves. The sense I get is that is that they are not necessarily in the grip of the groove, more that someone has turned on a giant gas burner beneath that stage which is gradually heating up and forcing the band to move in unusual ways.

Who's got the time to head to the gym when you have to practice for 21 hours a day, so to keep fit and healthy they are combining their gigs with aerobics, think of how much money you save on gym membership, plus you've got extra time for practicing, this is my kind of efficiency. Great Bands and musicians, they are my favs. But compare them to what I consider the golden age of Fusion (Jazzrock as it was labeled then) : the 70's, with giants like Weather Report, Return To Forever, Mahavishnu Orchestra and Herbie Hancocks Headhunters. These guys were pioneers. Fusion was innovative, exciting and fresh in those days. Jazz fusion as a genre faded in the 2nd half of the 80's and throughout the 90's imo. I consider it dead in 2020 !

Time Track was Franks's introduction to the Electric band IMHO! When I got the album, I could not believe what I hearing on this track. Frank was amazing. Then a two years later I got the Double CD GRP Live in Japan. Wow!! That version of Time track is the best. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Scott Henderson as well. His contribution on the first Electric Band's project will live on forever.
I wish Chick and the guys would play Electric City and King Cockroach..

No question Frank Gambale has set a very high standard in the guitar universe. Very difficult to achieve but very aspiring to emulate and learn from. I don't know any other guitarist but Allan Holdsworth who could shock people in such a way with his virtuosity. I still remember how I thought he was a keyboard player when I heard him the first time!...until my friend confirmed he was a guitarist.

The nod that Frank gives to Eric at 8:59 is so expressive of true master musicians who are respectful of each others' art and the artists. It goes on to show how much they're into what they're doing and they just.. they just love it!!
