My favorite to drive was the 4430 because of the A/C and cab, my favorite to work on was the 4640 because of the amount of room offered, but I have to say the 4020 was my all around favorite. It was just wonderful.
My dad bought a new 2020 John Derre and an 8ft disc in 1969. That's what I learned to drive on. Been in love with the 20 and 30 series tractors ever since. Thank for sharing.
My all time favorite John Deere was our 5400 Forage Harvester. Three row head and a couple of extensions to fill semi trucks. I loved riding with gramps as he overfilled the trucks. 😂 Only used the wagons to open up the corn fields really. We also had an old Farmhand forage harvester (fitted with a John Deere three row head) and a LOUD Detroit diesel. It was used for corn chopping only (it really was awesome too)... those two and 4 - 6 semi trucks (mostly tri-axle trailers - but the six axles would be out there some too - those were all from East Mfg) and the Steiger Panther PTA back at the farm pushing up and packing silage. Occasionally when it was really muddy the two Steigers would be hooked to the trailers via dollys and dumped on the pad using a truck next to the tractor. That was amazing. In its day it was quite an operation. Cherished memories... one's I wish I was able to provide for my kids. 😢
Thank You for adding this video. I spent many hours in the cab of the 5400 silage cutter with my Dad. It was a great memories that I will always treasure.

Honestly what people might not realize how great that these tractors and chopper would be great for a small dairy farm especially with same engine among tractors and chopper
My favorite John Deere tractor is the 4450. I just like them. Here’s why. My cousin worked on a very large dairy farm here in Maine before he started his own farm. His boss bought a low hour used 4450 out of Canada. The first person to run it was my cousin. As his job was running and fixing equipment. He topped off the fuel tank and hooked up to the 6 bottom plow and headed out for a day of plowing. Once he dropped the plow and started he immediately knew something was up with this tractor. He just kept giving it another gear and another and another and the rpm just stayed. Rolling coal and plowing in 12th gear like it was nothing. He knew it must of been cranked up pretty good. Then he really knew at 11:30 when he was already out of fuel when he filled it at 6 am 😂. He yelled to his boss on the radio and said “I need the fuel truck”. His boss said “WHAT!!!you just fueled up at 6”. Lol. Well they took it to the local Deere dealer at the time (Hammond-Tilton) in Fairfield Maine and hooked it to the dyno which was rated for 300hp. Well the 4450 buried it like nothing. Everybody was shocked to find it had been cranked up for pulling (like fair pulling lol) it had some aftermarket goodies as well lol. So knowing what would happen if they didn’t (driveline failures) they turned it down to around 175hp and called it good lol. Sorry for the long story lol. But that’s why the 4450 has always stuck out in my mind. I hope you don’t mind such a long comment. I love this channel!!! And I especially love the heavy tillage videos of all brands of tractors. Take care. (Pete Skowhegan, Maine).

Back in the mid 90's, I was a young mechanic at a John Deere dealer and replaced the engine in a 7520. Replaced with a remanufactured engine due to extensive damage from piston failure that broke the cylinder liner and twisted a connecting rod. Big Tractor Power, my dad and uncle bought a 1986 John Deere 2950 brand new. They used it on their farm and for planting pine trees for a long time. Last I saw it had about 15,000 hours on it. It was a good tractor. I grew up riding on it and using it. Have you heard of John Deere making a self propelled peanut harvester? I had read an article on it a while back. I do like the cotton baler pickers that John Deere makes, which is the CP690 which has become really popular in the Southeast.
there is a 7520 Deere at the local race track (grand forks ND) it is used to "farm the track* basically pulls a pto powered clod buster to re finish the dirt track. has the same belt squeal even. good retirement job for it.

On the 7520, what does the small horizontal connecting piece between the exhaust and air intake/cleaner do? Is it exhaust gas recirculation? I've seen something similar on Oliver 2655 (an s-shaped tube) and wasn't sure of its purpose.
FYI on the 6030 you could also get a 619 cid engine which made it available with two different I found this in don Macmillan’s book John Deere tractors and equipment 1960 to 1990
This is false Deere never built any 619 6030 tractors from the factory. The 2 different engines deal is really a little misleading too as the 141hp option offered in 1973 those tractors were really built out of left over 5020 parts and just given 6030 serial numbers. They contain none of the upgraded features that were used on the 6030

Never seen a harvester set up like that before.
It is a unique set up.
These John Deere tractors are incredible. Did you see that this morning Deere just released their new articulated machines on their website?
Yes I have a 9R540 lined up to film and and new 1795 planter with updated commodity tank.
@@bigtractorpower Sweet!
4430 was my favorite
Big Tractor Power, my dad and uncle bought a 1986 John Deere 2950 brand new. They used it on their farm and for planting pine trees for a long time. Last I saw it had about 15,000 hours on it. It was a good tractor. I grew up riding on it and using it. Have you heard of John Deere making a self propelled peanut harvester? I had read an article on it a while back. I do like the cotton baler pickers that John Deere makes, which is the CP690 which has become really popular in the Southeast.
Very solid tractor.
I MAY HAVE WORKED ON ONE OF THEM BACK IN THE DAY!!
👍👍
Loved running our 8820 Titan 2, good old nuts n bolts type combine. First tractor i drove in N America was a 8440, simple, get the job done.
The 8820 was a monster in its day. The 8440 is a tractor I would like to film.
@@bigtractorpower took delivery of my 1987 Allis Chalmers 8550, pretty excited to use it in the spring, put it in my latest video
there is a 7520 Deere at the local race track (grand forks ND) it is used to "farm the track* basically pulls a pto powered clod buster to re finish the dirt track.
has the same belt squeal even. good retirement job for it.
Very cool.
Well done on the year vs video number. Great equipment here to see.
😁👍👍
My favorite tractor or combine made from John Deere is probably the John Deere 6600 my grandpa had one and he was still farming but that's kind of my dream combine
The 6600 is one of the all time greats. It is one of my favorite combines. It was by far the best selling combine in the 1970s.
@@bigtractorpower I had a 7700 turbo for several years it is still being used , still runs good . Sadly I must confess that I did like the New Holland that I had before the 7700 , but it burned up in a fire ,it was a good running 1500
That was nice👍 I like the 4020
Thank you for watching. The 4020 is one of the all time greats.
Well Big Tractor Power feel free to come back anytime... greetings from Sweden..
My Dad bought a brand new 7520 in 1972 for $22,500. My Uncle bought a new 7520 in 1973 and had to pay $34,000 to get one because of the very high demand. I now iwn my Uncle's 7520.
Probably my favourite is the 2755. My dad traded their 2130 on it in 1987. It was the first tractor I drove.
Great tractor.
Horse drawn JD gang plow, 2-12s pulled by 6 mares, plows better than any tractor plow I have used !
Very very cool.
On the 7520, what does the small horizontal connecting piece between the exhaust and air intake/cleaner do? Is it exhaust gas recirculation? I've seen something similar on Oliver 2655 (an s-shaped tube) and wasn't sure of its purpose.
It pulls the dust and chaff out of the precleaner using the exhaust draft
We have a 1972 year model 4020 that has been a faithful tractor for our far for many years.
Very nice. One of the all time greats.
They contain none of the upgraded features that were used on the 6030
My favorite tractors from John Deere is the 4440 and the 6030
Both grew tractors.
I always enjoyed running a 4020. Field in Michigan
😁👍
Gotta love the classics
😁👍👍
Hello there, I remember you saying once in one of ur videos that you would like to do a video on a jd 7020 working. My brother and I chisel every fall with a 7020 and 7520. Lmk if you would like to come for a video

Nice job Jason! Rantoul.IL????
Yes
My favorite machine is from 1972 is 3300 combine jogn deere
Nice video 😊👌
Thank you for watching.
nice video
Thank you for watching.
@@bigtractorpower No problem whenever you post it's a good day in my books
My favorite is the 8020
Some absolutely braw yokes back in 1972
Where was the 5400 footage shot? Was a university doing the field research? I attended Penn State and they focused a lot of research on biofuel crops like what is being harvested here. They do a lot of similar field tests.
This 5400 belongs to the University of Kentucky.
I like the 4020
Why no 2030?Thats in the brochure to.Is that Steve Johnston's 6030?In 1972 my father worked for John Deere dealership in Greenwich,New York.In 1972 this same dealer sold a brand new 5400 pfh to Roy Everetts of Schuylerville,NY I remember
Great history. Thank you for watching. Unfortunately I have not had a chance to film a 2030 or I would have included it. These three machines are interesting to me because they all use the same engine.
My favorite John Deere tractor is the 5020
The 5020 is a nice tractor. I got a chance to disk some corn stalks with a 5020 this fall.
@@bigtractorpower That’s awesome I’ve never got to drive one but would love to someday
I wanted 1 so bad 6030 , 7520 Pure Hp. I had a 1963 5010 list price about $10,000 m I still have the 1963 2010 that my da replacer the R with in 1975 , Still runs good
Here I thought the long green line was that line in the field after the combining was done three weeks earlier.
