All your books look so interesting, and I have a serious question. How do you find books on such varied subjects, I always feel like I'm missing out. I always feel like I'm missing out on a great book, but I guess I can't read everything :(.
How do you I find books on such varied books? I look at the back of the books did find out what books are referred throughout a certain book. I also check footnotes of the books I read. I am constantly looking up books in Amazon. I see what books people have in LibraryThing. I read book reviews all the time. I now see what some people are reading in BookTube. I have been visiting bookstores and libraries going 49 years. I have spent most of my conscious life reading books or looking at books. I am a book worm. My life is books.
MJ, No, you certainly can't read everything, but one good way i have found of widening my horizons is by browsing in second-hand bookshops. There you will randomly find books that you have never heard of and which may be forgotten and rarely mentioned by other people. There are many more titles in a good second-hand bookshop than in a shop only selling new books. I once found a book in a local charity bookshop (?US thrift shop), which made me so angry that it inspired me to write a book!) Even if 90% of what you see is rubbish, you might still come across a great book that will change your life. I read a lot of non-fiction and if you look at all the references you will find titles that are automatically interesting, and which take your understanding to a deeper level. Good luck in your book-reading travels.
I wish I had a house filled with bookcases so as to have all our books on shelves. It sure is a mess down in the lower level! Sometimes it takes me days to locate a book I am wanting to look at. There are some books I want to look at that I have yet to find/locate. Thanks for stopping by. peace
A Christian who loves to read. A wonderful combination. Enjoy your time with the Lord and your love of books. An author your may enjoy is Dr. Andrew Farley. He has written several books on the Grace of God. Good stuff in my opinion. Have a blessed day. Hebrews 10:14❤
Youre such a great man. Im just 15 yrs old and i badly want to have a hundred or thousand of books in my room but sadly i dont have a room in our house and then i dont have enough money to buy too much book like that... Im so glad to see your books
You can start learning about books now and when you are older you will then know the best books to buy or read. I did not have money to buy books till I was in my 30's. I mainly used my local public library when I wanted something to read. Public libraries are great places to go to find books and to gather information about what are the best books to buy. You can also find good solid books at thrift stores. When I was teenager I would buy used books from hippies selling used books from their trucks and old buses. I did not start collecting used books until around the year 2006. My library before 2006 was built to enable me to teach and preach the Bible/I was educated to be a Gospel Minister. I do collect all kinds of books beside Christian books. Thanks for stopping by. peace I catalogue most of my books here in LibraryThing www.librarything.com/profile/bookmountain
Yes I highly recommend the Reformation Commentary series. It is good to have in your library old and new commentaries on each book of the Bible. I like to see how a certain text or book of the Bible has been interpreted over Time. Thanks for the comment. peace
Around here there many thrift stores that sell old used books so it is easy at least for me to find books-also I have an interest in all kinds of books so I usually find something that I want to ADD to our library. I have been collecting books for 45 years-seriously the last 33 years-used books for the last 20 years. peace
If secular reading ,Terry Pratchett is a guilty pleasure and that sort of reading helps me gain more ability to have reading focus of the Bible and Christian authors.weird I know
I love your collection, but how do find time to read so many books? I wish I had a library like yours, very impressive. We book hunt at thrift stores on the weekends, we make a game out it.
Remember you have to have room for books. The more books the more space. And for book lovers there is never enough books or space. I am a book collector and a reader. I read all the time because I am retired and do not have the responsibilities of working or raising a family. There was a time I only had time to read a little each day after work and on weekends. When I was working on lunch breaks I read and wherever I went I always had a book with me. We have to make reading something that we do out of habit/make time. Yes it is fun to go to thrift stores looking for books. I am always finding gems at thrift stores. Thanks for the comment. If you love space no clutter do not buy a ton of books. I constantly daydream of bookshelves and clean empty space meaning no books stacked on floors and in boxes. peace
I also enjoy collecting used books. Due to this world wide virus I wonder if thrift stores will ever over again. At the same time due to this shut down due to this plague I have come to see I really do not NEED any more used books. Also I personally do not plan to leave our house till I know the world is rid of this deadly plague. The Lord is sovereign.
since when do you start collecting books? how do you maintain your books and protect them from silverfish, moisture etc? i love your cozy lower level library. i have the same laptop "samsung". i have also started colleting books, but i prefer non-fictions, history, biography, travels, etc.
I started collecting books around 1975. We have a dry moisture free open basement. I also prefer non-fiction books history, biography, travel etc. . . see my Library Thing site below for our library- www.librarything.com/profile/bookmountain
I started collecting books around 1975. We are blessed with a dry open basement so our books stay dry and do not get moist. I just got rid of 19 boxes of used books. We gave the used books to our local library used bookstore the Book Nook. I volunteer at the Book Nook twice a week. I also mainly collect non-fiction. I like biographies, travel memoirs, essays, short stories etc. . . Thanks for the comments-peace
I also collect books. But I am starting to lose space after 300 or something books. What should I do? I want to continue collecting and I don't want to sell
If all you have space for is 300 books than find or keep the 300 books that you want to read over and over. We own a house with plenty of space for books. But maybe someday we will have to leave this house and live in a small apartment. I will have to get rid of thousands of books. Hopefully when that day comes I will be content to just read my Bible, some of my favorite Christians books, and sit in contemplative silence. Sometimes I think I should right now get rid of most of my books and just pray with an open Bible. I will soon be gone and there are no books in Heaven. It is all maddening. You can also use your local library for reading books that you have no room for. In the end book lovers always are in torment/we need room/we need houses to fill we all the books we love or long for. peace
No I am a very slow reader. Remember I am first a Book Collector and second a Reader. I love books and do not read ALL the books in our library. Hope you are well. peace
This has to be the biggest book collection I’ve ever seen!

You need to get a bar code scanner, or better yet, use your smartphone to manage your library. You can add remark, this book is in downstairs loo.
Wow. look at all those books!!! You must be banging all the librarians in your town
When l saw the smoking coming up l thought that your library was on fire....hahaha.
What you saw was incense burning in the back of me.
