    We don’t live in a rape culture, but we do inhabit a culture saturated with gender propaganda. Call it a Ms.Information culture. And nowhere is Ms.Information more rampant than in the area of sexual assault. Coming up on the next Factual Feminist: The two biggest myths about women and sexual violence.
    Myth one: 1 in 5 college women are raped. This claim has been repeated over and over by journalists, activists and political leaders so often it has become the conventional wisdom. As I and many others have said, the figure is wrong, and now there is new data, released just last month, from the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics which gives us a much more reliable estimate. The 1-in-5 claim is based on a 2007 internet survey with vaguely worded questions, a low response rate, and a non-representative sample. Other studies with similar findings have used the same faulty methods. But the real number, according to the BJS, is 1 in 53; too many, but a long way from one in five. Does that mean that sexual assault is not a problem on campus? Of course not. Too many college women are victimized, and too often they suffer in silence. But it is not an epidemic and it is not a culture. Exaggeration and hysteria shed no light and produce no solutions, and actually diminish the real problem
    Myth two: Women almost never lie about rape-no more than 2 percent of rape charges turn out to be false. Rape crisis activists often urge us to dogmatically “believe women.” They are reacting to a long history where victims were routinely disbelieved or blamed because of their choice of clothing or sexual history. But the answer to bad old practices is not bad new practices. As Cathy Young has noted in an excellent discussion in Slate: “The myth of the lying woman,” has been replaced by “the myth of the woman who never lies.” Why replace one myth with another. Of course women lie. Not because they are women-but because they are human. And human beings lie. Especially about sex. A woman making a false accusation might feel she has a reason to do so-maybe she wants to explain away an embarrassing sexual encounter, or maybe she is disturbed and seeking attention, sympathy, or revenge. Perhaps, even, she may have recently taken one too many feminist theory seminars and came to believe that drunken or regretted sex constitutes felony rape. The claim that only 2 percent of rape accusations are false is unfounded. It seems to have started with Susan Brownmiller’s 1975 feminist manifesto “Against Our Will.” Other statistics for false accusations range from 8 to 43 percent. But these studies have flaws too. The truth is, we have no idea right now what the figure truly is. And it may be unknowable. For one thing, it is hard to define what we mean by a false accusation. Is it a case where the police refuse to pursue a claim because of too little evidence? That does not prove it’s false. On the other hand, it would be wrong to assume that just because someone is found guilty and sent to jail, that means the charge was legitimate. We know that many men have been found guilty of rape, only later to be exonerated. Think of the high school football star Brian Banks who served 5 years in jail before his accuser admitted that she fabricated the accusation. And recently, we have seen dozens of high-profile campus rape cases revealed to be born of false accusations. The bottom line: false accusations are nearly impossible to define, let alone quantify. We can’t know for sure how common they are. But we do know that they happen far too often. So there is no alternative: we need to treat the alleged victim seriously and respectfully, while at the same time being vigilant about protecting the rights of the accused. That’s called due process.

    Even though I was raped several times and had to deal with trust issues towards men since then, I'm still able to think correctly. Many people have helped me after what happened. Many of them were male and I'm so thankful for every single one of them. Men aren't monsters and our society doesn't accept rape. If even I as a victim am able to see it, how can so many hardcore feminists be blind about it?

      The problem is it's all to common for a woman to be raped multiple times. Or otherwise sexually assaulted. It's not that every man is a rapist it's that all women live in a world where it is a very real threat. And all women are terrorized by rape even if it doesn't happen to them. Women's movement are constricted for our safety while the people that we most at risk *from* are left unrestricted. Petiole would be appauled if we suggested men alter their actions because we would be punishing the innocent " meanwhile it's fine to punish women by suggesting they don't go certain places at certain times, don't look away from their drinks, don't wear certain clothing, etc... And then also punish them if they don't give men the benefit of the doubt by calling them to suspicious or bitter.
      Not all bees sting, but if you get stung by one, let alone several it's common sense to be much more cautious and not go around assuring everybody that you don't hate bees or mistrust all bees, etc. If you've been raped multiple times by men (likely men whom you trusted at one point), it makes sense to be less trusting for your own protection. That's not bitterness it's common sense.

      Simple... she was told by our culture that men are worthless, dumb, sexual predators. Ask any feminist (besides CHS)... look at some of the comments here by feminists. History has been revised to make all men into predators against women. To most women, hurting a man is just about revenge and they feel a sense of justice in it. It's sad... because men's compassion and instincts to protect women are being abused.

    • @Ghost_Of_SAS
      @Ghost_Of_SAS 9 лет назад +33

      Northern Iggy Yeah, I can't shake the feeling that this new wave of feminist slacktivism is not about women at all, but rather about getting back at men in the most socially damaging manner possible.

    • @northerniggy8261

      Ghost81 True, but also not just men... this attitude toward men hurt women, as they start to view only the dark side of men, and live in fear and animosity. My daughter will have to see through the propaganda if she is to hope to find a virtuous partner (should she decide she wants one). Feminism is, really, a special interest lobby group that influences laws to redirect funds towards other feminist 'education' groups. WhiteRibbon.ca is the poster child of feminist propaganda, and their financials show they make a good living educating our boys in schools how they are just rapists in waiting, if they are not 'careful'. That's just one 'awareness' group in an army of hundreds if not thousands globally. Most charities "for women" are about slandering men, and making money off it. It's my hopes that people like CHS and others start to hurt their bottom line.

    • @Ghost_Of_SAS
      @Ghost_Of_SAS 9 лет назад +21

      Northern Iggy What's troubling is that these ignorant bigots have a following during times of ignorance, and their world view is dystopic. Their ideal world is one where men are turned into second class citizens that can be convicted and sent to prison simply for being accused by a woman of committing rape. A bit like in America in the racial segregation times, when a black person accused by a white person was guaranteed to be convicted, regardless of innocence.
      These feminists want to achieve the same exact thing, except with men in place of black people.

    OK GUYS! IF YOU'RE BORED AF AND WANT READ A MINI NOVEL HERE IT GOES: I was raped when I was 7 or 8, I'm not sure. Anyway, I used to think I was alone, so when I saw those 1 in 5 statistics when I was older, I didn't believe it whatsoever because I never even heard of that many women saying they've been raped. Then I thought...Well, I never said anything for 7 years...I still have not reported it in fact (and I don't plan to, I can't ruin that person's life, no matter what they did to me I just can't bring myself to do it, I would prob lose the case anyway from how much time has passed). As time went on, I met more more girls who had been sexually assaulted/ raped, and I have yet to meet one who has actually reported it. I went on a trip once and was paired with 3 other girls, all from different states. One night we had a deep talk and discovered that we all had been sexually assaulted or raped and none of us reported it or planned to. At first I felt relieved that I wasn't alone, but then the shock set in. If me and a couple random girls all happened to go through the same thing, who else? How many of these go unreported!? I understand you're here to give facts and thats what you provided. I don't agree that people should skew the facts but... They're no entirely false. There's no way to measure how many go unreported but... I think people are missing the point that "feminazis" are trying to make: so many rapes go unnoticed. I don't agree with blaming men and men are evil blah blah blah, but realistically, those who have experienced something so traumatic will be afraid of men. I used to hate men, because I was so scared. The person that raped me was someone I trusted, and after that experience I was traumatized. In my head, every man wanted to do that to me, because I believed that if someone that close to me would do that, than anyone could. As I got older, I met and got to know more guys and realized that I was wrong, and it to this day surprises me when men care about rape victims or put a woman's needs first. I am slowly learning to trust again. I still have some time. I am 18 and still have never had a bf, first kiss, or even held hands. I don't like to be touched and when men stare too long I get a panic attack (I hate that word because it sounds so dramatic but idk how else to explain hyperventilating, fear, and rapid heart rate lol). I have hope though because I know that not all guys are out to get women, and I hope that one day I can 100% trust a man and let him into my life. Just wanted to share to give you insight from a victims perspective.

    I attended the protests surrounding Bill Cosby's performance here in Hamilton, Ontario to see first hand what occurs and if these myths really make it to the front line. I was skeptical, hoping that there'd be at least some call for due process and an investigation. I was so very wrong. The chants, that I still have stuck in my head, were exactly what is described here, calls to "believe the women" often as a response to a single MRA guy who kept yelling "Lynch mob justice is not justice"
    Most disturbing was the cry "arrest him! arrest him!" not investigate, not charge, arrest. Accusations = guilt.
    It's refreshing to see these myths addressed directly by someone as eloquent as Prof Sommers because the dialogue out there in regards to this type of issue really does need to change.

    • @pixelgirl843
      @pixelgirl843 5 лет назад +4

      So your equating a chanting group of protesters with what happens with police and court proceedings. You know, they didn't convict Cosby "on no evidence" and a chanting mob. Nice false equivalency.

      Except there isn't any of that here. Show me exactly where she cites the "Real" statistic of false accusation... give you a hint, she doesn't. She takes the smallest % from one study, ignores there are several gov't studies that vary from 5-8%, wrongly attributes the fake stat to a book, and then completely fails to provide any alternative stat- instead going into the many reasons women lie.
      This whole thing is classic misdirection and gaslighting rape sympathizers are lapping up.

    • @pixelgirl843
      @pixelgirl843 5 лет назад

      Fuck_life_and_Everyone_Else _ The point is, there is no more lying in this kind of allegation than in any other. Overwhelmingly survivors report nothing because they default stance is they lied and everything focuses on that. When they talk about any other crime victim they talk about the perpetrator and what he did. When they talk about sexual assault, they talk about what the victim did to deserve it and the perpetrator's career.
      2-5% lie. Same as every other crime.
      That's the difference.

    • @pixelgirl843
      @pixelgirl843 5 лет назад +1

      No, its not "actually a lot bigger." Under-reporting is the problem here, not over reporting. And 3%-5% is the number. The United States is wholeheartedly into destroying lives with little to no evidence. We do it every day in a variety of circumstances to a deafening chorus of "Meh," from the public. Why should THIS be the only exception? Because its affecting our otherwise untouchable classes? I call BS. Anyone who equates "listen and believe" with "ruining the lives of men on an accusation" is just supporting a double standard, not traditional due process.

    • @pixelgirl843
      @pixelgirl843 5 лет назад +1

      Strawman. The variables are irrelevant. Either they are or are not lying. The prevalent problem is men getting away with sexual assault, and people trying to defend it by saying unless we allow men unfettered permission to assault women we will "ruin lives." All women wants is the same consideration as the accuser of any other type of crime gets, and to not be stigmatized when they come forward. That's it.

    I knew that the 1 on 5 thing was exagerated. If that were true we weren't living in the world we are now. A lot of people, pseudo-feminists claims that judges should make the law of "guilty until proven innocent", something I find really unfair.
    In fact, in Spain they have a law that does that same thing with violence agaisnt women accusations, where it doesn't matters if there is no evidence of violence the man would be inprisoned for a couple weeks.
    We can trust but we must verify facts.

      If women believed 1-in-5 they would not go to university. It's odd how it got so much coverage when it's so obviously false. But the coverage enables them to implement policies like the one you describe, so the statistic survives.

    Just last week, at the University I go to in Canada, a group of persons, who's project was accepted by the persons responsible of approving such projects at the University, was randomly selecting tables at lunch time in the cafeteria to go talk about the "rape culture" in Universities. They stated exactly the number you talked about; that 1/5 women have been raped. They were also saying that 90% of rapes are not reported. They weren't there to propose any solution; just to "let us think" about this. I have absolutely no idea what they expected this to change. I found their figures extremely high, and I'm glad I was right to doubt 'em.

      This is the thing though isn't it. Feminism harms everyone with the exception of people that want to be professional SJs with SJ degrees. "I need feminism because otherwise I wouldn't be able to make a living out of tweeting all day!"

    • @resistnzisfutl
      @resistnzisfutl 9 лет назад +6

      STEM disciplines are inherently different from the social "sciences" because, at this point, human behavior is all but unquantifiable. Many social "sciences" have the veneer of science, and may even use some scientific tools and a similar process, but are definitely not science. I'm not entirely sure if it's possible.
      The problem is, many in the social "sciences" treat findings in the fields as if they were hard science, even factual in nature. The other problem is, many of the SS fields have been overrun by advocates and SJWs with agendas, those who start out with preconceived conclusions that they regard as fact, then work to find evidence to support them. Pretty much the opposite of science.

    • @JonathanWeberese
      @JonathanWeberese 9 лет назад +2

      resistnzisfutl Totally agreed. The soft sciences need to be looked at in a unique way. As it is, we say "If men hated women, we would find an disparity in average income." And then they find one, and assume they had the narrative right all along, because it was "proven". It's abysmal proof methodology. You need the full gamut of combinations. It's like saying 1+3 = 4, therefore any number + 1 is even.
      However, I've thought about coming up with more precise numerical methods which are able to do more in the way of generating narratives. Let's take violence for example. Currently when we look at gender violence, we see more men hitting women than women hitting men. It's proven! Men hate women in particular!
      Under this method, no system can be analyzed without considering all its combinations. In this case:
      M-M violence
      M-F violence
      F-M violence
      F-F violence
      Arrange these in a matrix, and a bit of linear algebra can generate potential narrative directly.
      Here, you find that most violence done by women is against men, and most violence done by men is against other men. In that case, we are violent to men in particular, and censor violence from women. But because there is so little F-F violence, most of the violence women face is at the hands of men, creating the illusion that male violence is about hating women.
      Another thing that would be interesting to see, regarding domestic violence, is the violent crimes between roommates. I'd be willing to bet, to some extent, that much of domestic violence has less to do with hating women and more to do with roommates shoved together.

      Section five is where they start breaking down rape stats.
      Interestingly, when asked about lifetime sexual assault experiences, ~20% of women did answer affirmatively. So, maybe the 1/5 isn’t so far off, depending on how you phrase the stat. But it is only about 1 in 53 per year based on that year alone.

  • @magottyk

    It's not just reported rapes that can be false, many seeking attention will claim to have been raped, will be considered to have been raped, with vigilante justice and shunning of the accused, without any official complaint being made.
    It only takes a hint of sexual misconduct (whether true or not), for men to be branded as deviant, with many social penalties applied, including career opportunities.
    False rape accusations, while unquantifiable, do exist. Revenge by rumour is in the arsenal of women when it comes to sexual matters. Yet so many people refuse to acknowledge how devastating that particular weapon is, it is a power that women have, the abuse of that power should be considered in the same light as actual sexual assault. Women who lie about being sexually assaulted need to be treated as a liar, just as there is a registry for sex offenders (no second chances), liars of this calibre cannot be trusted to be ever telling the truth.
    These are not white lies, though you'd think they were judging by some of the gender feminist rhetoric.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but 1:13 it states "1 in 210.5 female students per year which equates to 1 in 52.6 women over a 4 year period" - I think that's a mathematical error. If your chances of getting sick one year is 50% and 50% for the next year. Your chances of getting sick over the two year period is not 100%, it's still 50%. Likewise, if your chances are approximately 1 in 210 for one year. Unless something drastic happens, it's always going to remain approximately 1 in 210 for every year. I could be wrong, but I'm certain that it's not mathematically accurate.

    • @michaelhrbypedersen4936

      Not sure about the statistics, you might be on to something there, but if you have 50% chance of getting sick year 1 and 50% chance of getting sick year 2, then getting sick either year has a 75% chance.
      To demonstrate: Lets have four people (A, B, C and D),
      A gets sick first year, but not second year
      B is fine first year, but gets sick second year
      C gets sick both years
      D is healthy and fine both years.
      Thats how it would statistically work out, if the chance is 50% each year, meaning 75% of people would be at least sick one of the 2 years.
      What you are unto is that 1 in 210.5 is a 0.475% chance for any given college woman to be raped.
      That means 99.525% of women attending college would be fine
      0.99525^4 = 0.98113 = 98.113% would be fine over a 4 year period, leaving 1.897% raped, or about 1 in 52.7 being raped.
      And I rounded off a bit, so what you know, the numbers here was actually right

    • @Xats
      @Xats 9 лет назад +8

      It doesn't refer to the chance of getting raped, it refers to the number of people getting raped over 4 years.
      However depending on how what samplegroup was used this could be a faulty way to count. This statistic is correct if they studied the same group of students during that period,
      If they studied the whole female student body then the calculation would be faulty since the people in the sample group vary from year to year. That would make 1 in 210 best case scenario and 1 in 52 worst case scenario.
      Also made a quick search through the document for "52" and couldn't find the statistiscs in there so I am a little dissapointed about this if Sommers counted this herself, could just be my lazy search being faulty though..

    • @paulquirk3783
      @paulquirk3783 9 лет назад +4

      The number is correct. I calculated it. With your 50-50 example, just adding each year's probability double counts a big number. With 1/210, it double counts a tiny number, so the correct value--which she uses--is almost the same as just adding.

      The fact that indisputably mislabeled _propaganda_ is inflating the reported occurrence of _sexual assault_ by 1325%, and thus, inculcating the general population [repeatedly] with the idea that men are 1325% more guilty of a crime than they are, leading to mass incarceration of innocent men?
      Or the fact that this crime has occurred since the dawn of man and you can't find a _single_ person in the US who says they wouldn't do _everything_ they could possibly do to stop it?

    All women who claim to be raped should be given a benefit of a doubt. Her allegations should be taken seriously, but all rape cases need to adhere to the rules of criminal justice: The accusing party has to meet the burden of proof! Period. This is the rule of criminal justice. Rape cannot be an exception to this rule. The victim needs to understand that justice won't be immediate. It will be time consuming. She'll have to tell her story again and again. Most of all, she has to understand life will go on, win or lose.
    I believe in this slow justice because of what Cordelia says to her two scheming sisters (who remind me an awful lot of third wave feminism btw) in Shakespeare's play, "King Lear." "I know what you are... Time shall unfold what plighted cunning hides: Who cover faults, at last shame them derides." Or, if you're not into Shakespeare, you can always go by what Judge Judy says, "If you're telling the truth, you don't have to have a good memory."
    If there are false accusations being made, slow justice will give time to reveal them, and prevent an innocent person from being thrown in jail. And I personally think that women who make false accusations should be thrown in jail. Again, provided that the accusing party meets the burden of proof showing that the false accusation did happen, and that it wasn't the result of false idenity. But since that's not likely to happen, thanks Regan and Goneril (aka third wave feminism) at least she should be open to civil suite.

      I couldn't agree more with this. But I do think it is important to recognize that our brains are wonderful things, that often block out certain parts of our trauma to protect us. So that bad memory might be a coping mechanism. This isn't to say that people should be thrown in jail without anything other than one half-remembered testimony, but it is something to be aware of.

    I have never heard of this lady before, but I hope she will read my post. This lady supports more than Feminism/Women; She supports individual liberty protected by law for everybody, and that is the master key to a civil and prosperous society.
    I believe this sharp lady is not a Feminist, but a lover of the philosophies of "Individual Liberty protected by law", (Individualism, not socialism/communism), no matter what the sex or race of the individual, (Individual Liberty protected by law is blind to differences in sex and race, and it was that philosophy that freed the Black slaves in 1863. The most grateful Black families named their own families after the men who started the USA based on Individual liberty, "Washington". "Franklin", "Jefferson"). It was Individualism where the Feminist movement started from, (but this lady sticks to those first proper principles. Good premise, Good integrity). It was individualism that MLK spoke from. It was Individualism that made the USA exceptional, and with the free market in the thinking individuals hands, grew the national economy, raising the standard of living for all, quicker than any nation ever had or ever will again.
    I would like to offer an addition to your channel title from "Factual Feminist" to "Factual Feminist, protecting individual liberty".
    I just found this vid on "InfoWars", and if you say InfoWars is all bad, this vid would not have been there, (But I believe Alex Jones is a fraud). It was not on Drudge or probably any other media.

    The word "rape" used to disgust me so much, just the mention of it and I would cringe. Now it's used so casually by modern radical feminists that it's lost it's power. Rape is not a joke, but the word is certainly being taken more with a grain of salt now, because most feminists seem to think that almost anything that THEY don't like is rape. It completely downplays and destroys the actual meaning of the word rape and instead becomes associated with their la la land, "patriarchy", "women are so oppressed" rhetoric. Honestly the only ones oppressing them are themselves.

    Many rapes are never reported such as; Rapes in marriage, during conflicts (wars), and very young women who may feel that it was their fault or don't realize that what happened to them was rape. Statistics do not include these women. I believe that in this world, might makes right no matter what. "Might" either in money, power or physical strength. So you are right about the real statistics being "unknowable". I have a tendency to believe that number of rapes in the world is much higher than we may suspect.

    Hey well done on being a actual feminist, i completely agree people should be equal and your the first feminist video havent viewed the same as racist propaganda, and well done for being a person that is addressing the fact that girls sometimes do like about sexual assualt.
    I feel this is quite a topic these days that need sorting out. its made me lose confidence to interact with most girls i encounter leaving me rather isolated and scared to talk to girls i find attractive or even sometimes just want to be friends with, ive had a friend who was accused of rape when he slept with a girl who had cheated one her boyfriend who almost got my friend sent to prison but luckily the room they though people were asleep in one or two were actually awake and played a large part to saving him.
    But i feel this topic is also a double edged sword, it also makes the few cases where a woman sexualy assualt's a male "impossible" and would cause people to be scared to even mention if it happened to them. ive seen a video of a girl throwing some guy around a bathroom smashing his head of a wall and kicking him in the balls because he "cant" hit her back or may just be like me completely none violent and to skinny to do so if he really wanted anyway.
    so what are your views on female to male sexual assualt?

    "Rape culture" plays on the fact that every non-psychopath in the world is opposed to rape. Which is all well and good. But then it takes the extra step of saying that rape is caused by all these influences in the culture at large - jokes, pornography, plot points in movies and video games. If you accept that assumption (evidence-free, usually), it's only a short leap to conclude that if we don't censor half of the media in the world, then we're basically signalling tacit approval of the (non-existent) rape epidemic. So any time you hear someone talk about 'rape culture' you can be fairly certain that somewhere along the line, censorship and control of arts and culture is feature of their agenda.

    rape is a disgusting inhuman act, but punishing it properly, with a hundred percent excessive violence is impossible these days, ever since women found out they could punish a lying boyfriend or similar by accusing them of having performed rape on the accuser. since there is no way to really prove rape, up to including genuine audivisual recording of the act, since many men and women enjoy some violence in their intercourse, and of course such things as roleplay, we're stuck requiring heaping amounts of evidence. what a disgusting world.

      THE RIGHT OF A WESTERN FEMALE CRIMINAL TO DESTROY A MAN USING THE POWER OF THE STATE. IT WORKS FOR ME.
      They have more repugnant laws like this one, WAWA, divorce laws, custody laws, slavery laws (alimony/child support), ......
      Men had overcome the middle ages, fought for human rights, liberal laws and freedom. All these achievements of humanity have been destroyed by feminism in few years.
      Normally, American’s can’t be jailed for debt because debtors’ prisons were thought to be a nonsensical and barbaric practice that was outlawed in 1833.
      Yet, the failure to pay child routinely lands American fathers in jail. Even if the fathers become unemployed or hospitalized, the judge could deny their petition to have their child support payments reduced.
      Feminism has created a dictatorship, destroyed civil rights and due process, equality under the law and presumtion of innocence, like in rape acusations and domestic violence laws, created dozens of new crimes (sexual harassment, offenses to women, DNA testing your own kid in Britain, afirmative consent, etc).
      The atrocities of the reversed burden of proof in criminal cases against men, the spanish nazi courts with their offender based laws.
      Women who think they are safe because they belong to the right sex are completly wrong,they will put them in prison for being racist if they are white, or for homophobe if they are heterosexuals , and if they are lesbians and black for Islamophobe.
      Remember the German Lutheran pastor Martin Niemöller:
      First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out-
      Because I was not a Socialist.
      Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out-

      Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-

      Then they came for me-and there was no one left to speak for me.

    The issue with ‘1 in 5’ id that the language on some studies is not clear, and can lump in everything from rape to catcalling, but show no data for various forms of sexual misconduct (a broad category that could include rude comments through rape). Sexual harassment, improper sexual comments, etc are wrong, but assault is very different. As far as ‘false claims,’ our court system is flawed, and I feel injustice happens frequently, that hurts both victims and falsely accused people... in ANY crime. In the real world, society doesn’t react the same way towards rape victims as it does victims of mugging, arson, a hit and run, armed robbery, etc. Similarly, we don’t treat victims of child abuse, domestic violence, emotional abuse, etc any better. It happens with male victims, too, and it’s because nobody wants to believe that their friend or loved one might be capable of sick shit. It’s totally ok to shy away from accused abusers if you feel at risk, yourself, but if you are not at risk, it’s fine to hear out both sides of the story. You are ignorant, however, if you say ‘I don’t want to hear either side... I’m friends with both of you and I just want you two to patch this up already so I can stop hearing about it.’ That shows a great lack of empathy, and a willingness to live in a bubble where bad shit never happens. It’s also gross to keep supporting someone you believe to be guilty because ‘they’re popular’ or ‘they’re nice to me, but yeah... he assaulted my friend, so I totally get it.’ That’s someone that will just hurt other friends of yours, but the fact that you look good socially, for being friends with them totally makes up for that (sarcasm). All abuse is under-reported, and improperly handled, therefore we cannot accurately estimate how ‘under-reported’ abuse really is. It’s difficult to talk about, and there is such a stigma about false abuse being rampant, that courts can go in with a very biased opinion. To best determine whether or not an accused abuser is a threat, look for red flags of a narcissist, or sociopath. Also take into account whether or not they are known to be violent in general, and hear out their accusers. Look for holes in any story you hear, and for the love of the gods, go to the source, rather than listen to ‘I heard that’ stories. Also consider who has a history of lying. I’ve been assaulted and raped, and I’ve had many friends that have been as well. I’ve also had two friends falsely accused of abuse (by the same woman, and I was there for one of the ‘abuse’ instances she claimed happened... my friend blocked her fist when she tried to throat punch him while on drugs), and my rapist actually accused me of manipulation and emotional abuse. Both instances are the result of very sick, vial people, and false claims are often cover ups of abuse or other toxic behaviors. I’m an advocate for all survivors. I separate this from my stance on feminism, because abuse is a human issue.

    If all feminists were like this I wouldn't have a problem being a feminist. This woman has logic, facts and can speak comprehensively.

    That last bit you said about false accusation of assault, well that happens in Kuwait quite often, some young women report on men in a mall or in a park or somewhere, report some kind of assault, victimizing themselves with no actual harm done to them.

    She gets so much right, and so much wrong at the same time. By definition false is anything not true, made up, or exaggerated to hurt the victim. There's absolutely no justification for it. Legitimate sexual assault isn't you sent mixed signals and labeled it rape later on, for convenience.

    best part about this is the open admission of "we don't know" rather than claiming at a figure much higher than 2%.
    Could be 2, could be 30, could be 0.006 - nail on the head: we just don't know but it happens, so less just do our best to lower whatever number it happens to be

    Another issue is rape is far too easy to fake. Unless its a child or something showing signs of force; you can just say "I was raped" after making small talk with someone and how will you know its fake? Your right. We need to have due process on both sides.

    I don't want to distract, as this is a very important topic, being explored very eloquently.
    But the clip at 2:18 is played in reverse and there's a guy with a food tray walking backwards and I found that hilarious.

    I did an internet search, figuring I could find a few notable examples to use in my studies. It came back with such a landslide of cases that I gave up on trying to compile a list! If anyone doubts that this is a growing trend (perhaps epidemic) just type "False Rape Accusation" into a non-Google search engine and see what happens.

    How dare she scrutinize and objectively analyze multiple sources of credible data to come up with sensible conclusions?!
    How dare she!!

    Outside of politics, entertainment, sports, and fraternities, almost all men want to be violent against rapists. Part of the motivation is feeling protective toward women. This is sexist. Eliminate sexism, and increase indifference toward rape of women

    there's a nice circularity to a "statistic" like "only 2% of accusations are false". That then feeds into expectations of juries who deliver verdicts accordingly - which feeds back into the stat, and so on. For a crime which often focuses on intent rather than the facts that's a powerful effect. And "rape culture" is self-evidently an oxymoron. In an actual rape culture the term "rape culture" would have no meaning. It would just be culture. It is only because we have an anti-rape culture that "rape culture" has power as an accusation.

    I think rather than trying to destroy an non existent rape culture we should be doing more to advance forensic and investigative technologies to truly help victims of rape/defamation due to false claims of rape.

    It would be terribly dangerous if we had as a standard: "Believe the accuser no matter what". This could result in an extreme inflation of false accusations because accusing someone of rape is a good way of destroying a person's life.

    What are your thoughts about the current situation in Australia? Namely, a woman was sadly raped and killed in a park and a huge amount of women have been claiming that the police advice on how to avoid the situation is victim blaming and that ALL men are at fault or somehow responsible and that we need to teach boys that rape is wrong because we're ignorant of it somehow

  • @smcgrath6987

    It is false rape accusations that single handedly trivialize the heinous crime of rape.
