I remember staying at my dad's this weekend and he let my sister and I stay up and watch this! We were big KISS fans and he sat like a champ through the whole thing!
I remember as a 14 year old kid I blew off a trip to Great Adventure, a huge amusement park about 2 hours from where I live, so I could stay home to watch this movie. There was no such thing as video recorders back then, but I recorded the sound with my tape recorder lol. I listened to the movie just about every day. That movie was the first time I ever got to see them and hear them. Until then it was just magazine pics and quotes from interviews. I was mesmerized lol Thanks Sean as always for the memories!!
5:00 You didn’t mention it but Black Ace is in this picture with Frankenstein’s monster & gang too. Also, they had a deal with Universal to use these classic characters. The other guys look like robo-KISS, the Peter guy for sure.
It was an exciting time back then became when you heard Kiss was going to be on TV you had to see it because it was the only way to see the band besides magazines and concerts. My mom left me stay up late to watch this movie when it aired. I was getting pissed because almost 45 minutes into the movie and no signs of Kiss. Then once they finally appeared, it was awesome. I was only around 7 but I loved it. Looking back it was dumb but fun and exciting at the same time. Being a kid I had no idea there was all of this behind the scenes bullshit going on because they hid it well and tried to keep the Magic going for a few years yet. Great episode
My dad too. He made me go see a Dracula movie at the theaters with Christopher Plummer and I was furious. Unfortunately I was too little to protest. Got home in enough time to see the last 20 minutes thanks to my wonderful mom!
There’s a part in the concert scene where a fan in the front row gives the middle finger to the camera and KISS. It only happens for a second, but it’s an essential part of the aura of the movie.
The truly HOTTEST years that KISS ever had, with all 4 original members, was from 1975-1978, or so. After that-Nah...not so much. Even though Dynasty (1979) went Platinum, there were more and more problems surfacing in the band, and in 1980, Peter Criss was gone. At first, and for a long time, it was said that he had quit KISS. As it turns out, though, he'd been fired, by a 3-0 vote, in favor of firing him. Yep-Even Ace Frehley had voted for him to be fired! For some strange reason, Ace had turned his back on Peter...but maybe it was for the best. Peter had wanted to get out of KISS for at least two years, before it actually happened, so... goodbye, Peter Criss...and hello, Eric Carr.
So I grew up listening to KISS. I remember my folks thinking this was going to be bad for my soul to watch. We watched it. Yes, it was bad for my soul, but not the way my parents thought it would be. Watching it now, I see it differently and do watch it a couple times each year. 😂
I have a film industry background. It's worth investigating the SAG deals in relation to actors payments. By attempting to cut out Ace with less to say leaves a bigger pool of money fo those developing money bags and others with stars in their eyes. What this film needed was a Scooby Doo style of mystery wrap around, then it would have been a huge hit.
When I was 12 we went on a fishing trip to Bishop,California (1988)where we found a Kmart to buy some gear. I saw that they had the vhs tape and literally couldn't think of anything else but playing that as soon as we got home. I was mesmerized by 70's kiss since I was a toddler and still to this day.
As a kid I cringed when nbc aired it. Got it on vhs and realized it wasn’t that bad. The theatrical version on “Kissology 2” is awesome. I’ve watched it many times. It is a great movie. It needs the solo tunes in the soundtrack.
Went over to a family friend's house. Both sets of parents went out for date night, and we had a sitter. Our parents specifically told the sitter to not let us watch this as it was satanic. Obviously a 16 yr old girl let us watch it. I didn't know much about kiss as my folks didn't want me listening to them, but the kids at school were all talking it up like it was some big deal so of course I really wanted to see it. Even my 8 yr old mind knew it was hokey and dumb. What a let-down. What a cool sitter tho.
Right on! I'm a fan of the movie, I was only a few years old when it came out yes I did think they were super heroes and still do! People who dislike Kiss cuz they feel the band is too corny are basing that opinion on the fact that their music wasn't as great as some other bands may have been at the time, but I always believed these critics were too old to get the appeal or were deprived of their childhood to get just get to have fun like the rest of us!! To this day ,I've never known any other band to have so many devoted fans of any era and age than any rock band ever! So say what you will about Kiss ,their fans could care less!!!💋💜💚💙❤🔥♥♠♣♦
i had no idea there was a version with the solo album songs on it! i'm excited to check it out. .. another great production on your part. you're a natural storyteller and it's impressive the way you just talk and all of the information just spills out so naturally. great research, very professional and extremely informative. i had to comment because i continue to be impressed with how much you've grown as a creator, especially recently. your confidence has built and it shows. thanks again for another informative, entertaining video.
I had the VHS 80's copy until a house fire January 2017 in which I lost my 1977 comic and so much more. I tortured my poor friends for decades with that movie. I still laugh at the comments made by the friends having to watch it for the second or tenth time just because they were there when it was anothers first time to see it. Later on in life a few different friends kids watched it and loved it. I still greet one of them with, What do you compute Space Ace and she always replies, insufficient data at the moment Star Child. And as corny as the movie is what other fans in the world has that?
It was a typical Hanna-Barbera Scooby Doo cartoon. A mystery that takes place at an amusement park. “And I would have gotten away with it if it wasn’t for you meddling kids… ahhh I mean Kiss!”
I was 10 years old when this came out. I was so excited to watch it because I was a huge Kiss fan at the time. Well, even as a dumb 10 year old kid I realized this movie was really, really stupid. That was the beginning of the end of my Kiss fandom. When "I was made for loving you" came out I was done for good.
I love it. They really should do a box set with photos and behind the scene stuff. Kiss fans love it and it the original 4. I honestly am more interested in this than Sonic Boom or Monster albums. Abner Devereux is awesome played by Anthony Zerbe he is also great in Omega man with Charlton Heston another great B movie.
Where did all of ur old Kiss review videos go? I was trying to rewatch one of them & all the kiss reviews are gone? U privated them? U got copyright struck? What happened?
Very good review 👏 I find it very interesting that everyone always puts down peter and the voice over that he would not show up to re-record them but Gene Simmons voice is not his real voice in the movie did they get Stephen Hawking to do Gene simmones voice overs
I was never aware that two editions of this were released. I loved the VHS tv version with original music choreography to the fight scenes. The edition with the songs from the solo albums is terrible. The songs, with the exception of maybe Radioactive, by Simmons, are just cheesy and don't fit to the movie at all. Second of bad errors by the group. The other - released I Was Made For Loving You. Why? It caused many fans to turn from the band.
I like kiss meets the phantom. Always have and always will as it did appeal to kids like me at the time. And, if anybody remembers the Saturday morning cartoons of Land of the lost, space nuts and especially Scooby Doo ( basically the sid and Marty Croft shows that many people even back then had suspected that resulted from the acid trips of the creators and others that worked on those shows-which still wouldn't turn out to be surprising if it turned out to be true) is probably the kiddie things that is sensed about that movie, which makes it a total classic, right there. However, the one movie that disappointed me and still does to this day is the one movie that kiss put out a soundtrack for but never made this movie for it, The Elder. Come on kiss, you can still do it as animation has become advanced in recent times. Exploit that technology! Do that movie, what did you want to say with it, brothers? Otherwise, I want to thank kiss for all the decades of good times that they produced with their stadium crumbling rock and roll music and all the nuclear mushroom clouded stage shows. You did what the evil and diabolical wickedness of Church and state governments can never achieve, you gave everybody a good time as our last thoughts to remember and hold dear to our hearts before we are all killed by such a government by global thermal nuclear war and soon. I thank kiss for that as what they did was, in fact, comforting soon- to -be mass murder victims and that's all of us in these current time of pre nuclear war times. There is nothing more noble than that-and yes, even if you did do it for the money, at first.
Ace and Peter drinking all night and snorting coke. There's a shocker. These two we're their own demise and not surprised they we're both gone within a five year period. Pretty sad because the first six Kiss albums we're classics. I didn't even mind Dynasty although Peter never played on it. I've always wondered what Kiss would have been like had Peter and Ace kept their head on their shoulders and stayed sober. Would have loved to have heard the 80's Kiss music with their makeup still on and Peter and Ace still writing great songs like Strange ways, Parasite, Shock me and Baby driver. I guess we can only imagine and will never know.
Quite the opposite!!!! Peter and Ace were amazing and fantastic and underrated and underappreciated and even on coke and booze were better than 90 percent of the musicians in their prime!!!! Try again
I first saw this air on TV in 1987 after I got my 1st VCR. I quickly hit record and had kept the tape for several years even though I only had it from the time where Stanley goes "She's looking for someone, but it's not Kiss." I thought some of it was cool since it was my first KISS sighting after just listening to the albums. Some of it was crap though, like the acting and dialogue and effects. Stanley has a cool voice, but his delivery was stiff. I later saw the movie version when I bought the DvDs and although I liked the KISS music in there I didn't like the editing. It wasn't the same as the TV version that I 1st saw. Therefore I like the TV version better. It was crap because they just didn't have the budget to do it like Star Wars for a TV movie, hence why it was more like the SW Christmas special.
what happened to your reviews of all the kiss albums? not the "kiss related" video, but the videos u did on each and every kiss album, what happened to those?
It was the kiss jump the shark movie that sent them in decline. It set in motion the negative spiral along with dynasty disco and over saturated presentation of kiddie toys that homogenized their image. Rebellious rock teens do not want their young siblings to like what they like. Not cool so kiss became uncool. Power pop album then Peter gone. Next elder. Then ace gone. One bad thing after the next
Abner Deveraux created KISS to destroy KISS and he lost.
Actually us fans lost.
I remember staying at my dad's this weekend and he let my sister and I stay up and watch this! We were big KISS fans and he sat like a champ through the whole thing!

'Plan 9 From Outer Space'. Rock and roll style. I saw it in '78.
This makes a great double feature with The Stat Wars Holiday Special!
@panda Yes, as they both SUCKED!..🤣👈👀
I loved it as a kid in 1978 and I still love it now.
5:00 You didn’t mention it but Black Ace is in this picture with Frankenstein’s monster & gang too. Also, they had a deal with Universal to use these classic characters. The other guys look like robo-KISS, the Peter guy for sure.
I Like it !!!
Still better than everthing after 1983 !

"This movie is so goofy, but I love it." -Sandy Kasper-Graziano as an adult, aka My mom who watched the movie on premeire night! (She was 13)
I was in 5th grade when it came on tv. Because it was Kiss my dad refused to let me watch it.
He had no idea how much I appreciate that now. 😅
My dad too. He made me go see a Dracula movie at the theaters with Christopher Plummer and I was furious. Unfortunately I was too little to protest. Got home in enough time to see the last 20 minutes thanks to my wonderful mom!

Welcome! Hope you enjoy!
I wish they made a sequel when they did the late 90s reunion. It would've been in 3-D and Dennis Hopper would've been the villain.
i was 8 in 78 and freaking LOVED it. Now, i cant get through that turd.
Went to see this movie at the cinema here in Australia, still waiting to get my money back 🥴
Same. Saw it in Melbourne. The hype was insane.
😂😂😂

You said it perfectly.
Classic cheese. Loved Phantom as a kid.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on what you think about the new kiss era with them becoming digital and their final tour! Hope you're doing well!

Thanks so much!
Your video reminded me that I miss watching this.
I picked up a VHS copy at a record show today
I watched it on TV when I was 8. I loved it then and love it now. I stil have the VHS that I bought in Sam Goody in the 80's.
I had the VHS 80's copy until a house fire January 2017 in which I lost my 1977 comic and so much more. I tortured my poor friends for decades with that movie. 5:39 As all good parks have.
It was a typical Hanna-Barbera Scooby Doo cartoon. A mystery that takes place at an amusement park. “And I would have gotten away with it if it wasn’t for you meddling kids… ahhh I mean Kiss!”

Pause it at 2:56 and you can see the KISS stunt doubles before they get covered in all the writing.

Peter Criss was absolutely right with what he said about this disaster of a movie
It was supposed to be 'A Hard Day's Night meets Star Wars'. Instead, we got 'Let It Be meets Hardware Wars'.
💙
Rip and Destroy is better than any Taylor swift song

Copyright issue. Took them all down so I didn’t lose the channel.
wow man that sucks. total bs, glad that you have other content to enjoy tho!@@SeanBlumenshine

Not FrayLay, FreeLee.
