Devereaux's last words: And I would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for you meddling KISS!
🤣
And then KIϟϟ actually did a crossover with Scooby-Doo!
Ohhhh Why hasn't Rifftrax riffed this movie?
Also, I like to think of Kiss Meets the Phantom as some kind of Scooby-Doo Episode that never got made. Think about it, all this is missing is the Mystery Inc. Gang and you literally have the perfect Scooby-Doo Episode w/ Special Guest Stars KISS.
🤣
I saw this when I was 8 years old when this came out the same year as The Star Wars Holiday Special. I can’t decide which I want to forget about more.
That's alot of bad for one year
One is at least silly and watchable, while the other is the most boring, pointless fever dream of a shitshow ever recorded. "Boba Fett's first cartoon appearance ever!" is absolutely no saving grace to 9 minutes of captionless Wookie gargling.
I've heard Lucas said the same thing as Gene Simmons. They both wanted to gather and burn every single copy
Star wars Christmas special is much worse.
I stayed up all night watching this on TV in 78...I was 7...I loved it and my dad bought me a peter criss album that year because the cat guy was my favorite character.
Back in the late 90's me and my family visited Toronto. One night we decided to attend their long running Phantom of the Opera show. And believe it or not, Paul Stanley of KISS played the Phantom in the show and he was quite a good singer! It was quite the treat!
Was it the Andrew Lloyd Webber phantom or one of the other phantoms. Because there are more than one phantom productions including another musical one.
@@jacquelinecallejas1390 the only phantoms of the opera show in Toronto at that time that I'm aware of was the Andrew Lloyd Webber one. Cheers!
I’m lucky to own a copy of that DVD!
@@shewolfsiren he was good except he cant yelling "i cant hear you " after every song
Wow, Hanna-Barbera got a horror director to helm their 'Kiss' TV movie. You should also review the 'Scooby-Doo Meets Kiss' movie sometime.
He could say Jay and Silent Bob at the beginning joke
I just saw Scooby-Doo Meets Kiss and after seeing this, I wonder if it's this movies sequel
@@Hanmerhack Casey Kasem dubbed over one of the Kiss members.
@@Hanmerhack remake..........not sequel
That one wasn't that bad....
When I was watching the episode of Family Guy that these “Kiss Saves Christmas” clips were from years ago, I so badly wanted them to be an actual Christmas special. This Cinema Snob episode has rekindled that desire.
I've heard a rumor that "KISS Saves Santa" was a script idea that was penned, but never used due to the failure of Phantom
Lloyd seeing the Snob dressed as a cat and thinks "Yeah I don't care what you wear it's not happening.".
Poor Lloyd. He needs someone to comfort him after seeing 'Cats'.
I wonder if he thinks the Catman make-up is racist (specist ?).
@@FrenchPaul1988 'WHAT IS THIS?!'
@@Launchpad05 Why not Doug Walker's cats, Chaplin and Buster?
This movie is One of my guilty pleasures.
May I recommend rewarding yourself for enduring this film (which I actually enjoy in a masochistic way) by watching the 2015 animated film "Scooby-Doo and KISS: Rock & Roll Mystery". Besides being much better, KISS believed in it strongly enough to re-record all the songs used specifically for the film (including The Ascot Five). Basically a remake done right in a more fitting medium, and some of the animated sequences are really good.
And you won't have to traumatize Lloyd....
....they re-recorded the songs so they didn't have to pay ace and peter anything
YES!!! It's a perfect pairing ❤️
And don't touch my Ascot!
@@maddogziggy I don't doubt that for a moment, but after 30+ years, a higher fidelity recording was certainly welcome. Not to mention some songs in the animation hadn't even been written yet....
It's a pretty fun movie NGL. The opening of it is probably the coolest Scooby Doo intro ever - it has some nice animation.
"... the set of Grizzly 2. I suspect no problems with that movie."
Oh man, now THAT'S continuity!
Nothing like spending a Labor Day morning than a new Cinema Snob episode.
Ace Frehley's black stunt double! I remember once reading an interview with Stanley in which he stated that after seeing the film in a private screening he'd never felt so embarrassed! Said something like he wished he could've just melted into his seat rather than lock eyes with anyone after it was over!
My therapist: "Ahegao face George Washington isn't real. He can't hurt you."
Ahegao face George Washington: 9:52
Thanks, now i can't look at this scene without the cursed ahegao faced connection.
I've heard this being used as a "bad movie" joke punchline for so long, it's surprising how decent it is. As Brad said, sure it's campy, but I've seen far worse B-movies.
One word: Birdemic
@@dragonmaster613 Exactly, or Manos!
Yeah, it's kinda like Paint Your Wagon or when Brad reviewed At Long Last Love. If you searched for that movie, it would appear on worst ever lists, but while far from the best, it wasn't the worst, either. As Snob said from Cybil Shepard's singing in it: "She sounds ... fine!"
Rock and roll all night and not give a fuck every day is my new motto
This is one of my all-time guilty pleasure movies! Kiss was my first concert when I was 7 in 1996. My parents had this vhs, and I watched it multiple times almost daily. I'm still a Huge KISS fan to this day and was lucky enough to see their "last" tour. Also good call on the Ace joke... He's always been my favorite and I painted as him for the show... I've also been a Juggalette since I was 13 and paint as Shaggy every year 😂
Ace was always my favorite too!
"No one wants to be Peter Criss, Lois. Not even Peter Criss."
What about Lloyd or Chaplin?
@@whenfatkillsfat803 what?
@@cthulhupthagn5771 Because Peter is the cat.
@@cthulhupthagn5771 you really didn't catch the joke?
Try telling that to Eric Singer, the former KISS drummer who took Peters place (and makeup) in 2004.
Still more dignified than a lot of the shit Gene Simmons has pulled over the years!
NBC gives Kiss a "Phantom" movie... Roger Corman gave the Ramones Rock 'N' Roll High School!
Rock N Roll High School had Mary Waronov which by itself makes that movie a classic. Especially since she shows everyone that Ramones music makes mice explode.
Warner gave us Fat Boys and Disorderlies! New Line gave us Run DMC and Tougher Than Leather!
Like the KISS Walmart ad? Ot their playing at Macy's Thanksgiving day parade...
This movie is a Halloween viewing tradition for my husband and I! It's so bad, it's amazing ❤️❤️
Having The Cinema Snob Brad Jones around, does rock.
You should review the other movie that also involves Hanna-Barbera, Kiss, and the supernatural: Scooby-Doo and Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery
That sounds groovy
Gotta save something for next year.
Snob watched the European version, with songs added from the solo albums playing over some regular scenes, with some unused footage as well to pad out the film for theatrical release. The original version, as seen on the VHS that was only out for a few months initially, had a lot more Hoyt Curtin stock music. Incidentally, Hoyt had some music in Plan 9 and Mesa of Lost Women.
In the TV movie ending, they just pulled the gizmo off of the guys neck, without bothering to zap it.
“He created KISS....to destroy KISS. And he lost.” Awesome wrap-up line.
Kind of like how a super villain once created X-Men the destroy the X-Men
ACK!!!
Strange that 1978 also saw the creation of the Star Wars Holiday Special
I was a 13 year old Kiss fan when this was released. By the end of the credits I wasn’t anymore.
Every punch thrown makes sparks fly. Absurd powers for every member of the band. Talismans bearing their symbols that bestow said powers. The B plot is about a bunch of random teenagers that need rescuing. Final showdown against evil replicas of themselves. This is a Power Rangers Kiss Special.
I don’t care how he criticized it, I’ve loved this movie since I was a kid. Look, this was before RUclips and fb and the internet for crying out loud. I was thrilled to see it when it first aired!!
Im so glad we are getting musical march in September this year aswell. I cant decide if this is my favorite Kiss feature or Never Too Young To Die where Gene Simmons plays a hermaphrodite as Velvet Von Ragnar.
Gene is good in Runaway as the fiendish villain
@@wopjohn and don’t forget the Rutger Hauer action movie whose name I totally forgot!

Finally the prequel to Scooby-Doo meets kiss
HELL YEAH !!! Day off, New Episode, Yesterday was my birthday (along with Michael Keaton/Batman). It's like a belated birthday present. Thanks, Brad
18:00: Yeah. I can't believe a story about him being dubbed over by Michael Bell would spread around like that, sounding exactly like Michael Bell recording it in a booth with no atmospheric room tone and all.
you know, this movie is all kinds of great. The only thing bringing it down, is the assumption anyone would have thinking they were gonna see a proper movie. Find all the drugs, imagine yourself being young again, and enjoy a trip like no other!
What a fun, cheesy, camp classic! Great for watch parties, late-night popcorn feasting and/or getting baked, if you are into that kind of thing. I think shows like this improve like fine wine over the years.
The "Canyon" marching band is from the College of the Canyons, a college that is practically down the street from Magic Mountain where they filmed the movie. Both places are in Santa Clarita, where a lot of LA-based TV and film production studios shoot scenes.
TRIVIA: The weekend this came out - 2 other BAD TV MOVIE classics did as well: Devil Dog Hound of Hell and Linda Blair's Summer of Fear both were shown on the same weekend !!
13:00 "I asked for Pepsi in my trailer God dammit" 😂😂😂😂
Anthony Zerbe was in every TV show in the 1970s.
KISS were fortunate that the Razzie Awards were created two to three years after this was released. I'm sure that they are thankful for the Village People movie and Xanadu as they shadowed them.
Thanks for finally reviewing this, Brad. Given that the WONDER WOMAN TV show was still on the air in 1978, it would have been cool to see Wonder Woman and KISS team up.
You want the best you got the best THIS IS KIZZ
This review is out, on the same week when "Kiss meets the Coronavirus" is playing. Great timing, Brad!
Oof!
That kinda reminds me of how Kiss was in the first part of the Fairly Odd Parents Wishology, where it's revealed that they're ancient guardians of a wand (shaped like a guitar, of course) made to fight back against an entity called "The Darkness".
And yes, they can do magic.
I remember my brothers and myself being excited to watch this when it originally aired on TV.
4:00 i wonder how much that "grotesque" KISS cutout would be worth today 💋
Most unbelievable part of this review is the idea that anyone would ask for Pepsi on purpose.
I have been waiting for you to review this FOR YEARS
Really excited for this one, being Kiss fans (and cheesy movie fans) this gets quoted regularly at my house lol
Shout out to the Drug Dealer to the Writing rooms of ‘78. It was a wacky time. Christians must have thought it was the End Of Days… again 😂
I remember this thing previewing … Good Grief.
YES He is a great actor and rememberable
The acoustic guitar version of "Beth" was the high point.
11:35 And now I like to imagine that this movie is totally in canon with the Kiss Psycho Circus video game. :D
Not only Kiss, but technically GI Joe and Transformers could also be in the MCU considering their comic book history
I'm honestly surprised they haven't worked KISS into a Guardians of the Galaxy cameo. Guess they could still make it work.
Thank you so much for the Kiss saves Santa clips lmao 🤣
I want a Bill and Ted-esque revival for Phantom of the Park. Just putting that out in the universe
I assumed that Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park was the who impetus of "evil robot versions of Bill and Ted" that battle, which of course has a Kiss song at the end!
I liked this movie. And yes, I am a KISS fan. It is a shame that we wouldn't get another KISS-style movie until they did a crossover with Scooby-Doo.
and years laters, we have a spiritual successor with "Scooby Doo meets Kiss"
I mean, this movie was pretty much a Scooby Doo plot already.

When you love Kiss & Stoned Gremlin and this video blesses you in your recommended videos.
Suspension of disbelief shattered: No one EVER asked someone else to stop smoking in the 1970s! 😋 7:12
Seriously though I feel the effects in this are super charming, perfect for this kind of B movie!
....The idea that the lazers and fire-breath etc would now be some awful digital plugin makes me feel kinda nauseous 12:40
A KISS fan since 1992. The KISS tattoo on my right leg approves this review. Nice one.
Oh my God, I am so happy that this one is being Snob-ed!!!!!
I'm surprised it was not released as "Kiss vs King Kong" in Italy. There's even a gorilla in it !
Every time I tell people that I saw a tv movie about KISS when I was a child they don't believe me. Now I have proof.
I have a VHS copy of KISS Meets The Phantom Of The Park autographed by Abner Devereaux (Anthony Zerbe ) himself.
I really want to see the Cinema Snob review the 1977 film, Rollercoaster!
I've seen a lot of media with Michael Bell's voice and I can definitely hear him in this.
I haven't finished this vid yet, as it is late and frankly I am not young. But I am pleased to have it included. I did indeed see both this and the Star Wars Holiday Special. I even owned both the Kiss comic book (with "real Kiss blood," or so one is told) and the Star Wars board game (what on Earth became of that? How did I not hang onto it?). And both are goofy fun except that the presence of Anthony Zerbe, who really can act and has a unique and awesome voice, can depress me as this is so beneath him. To round out my fall in '78, I saw my first ever live concert. It was November, I was thirteen on that very day, and the band was Queen. The 70's sure were more fun than some can imagine...
They filmed two episodes of Wonder Woman here as well, treat yourself to Wonder Woman VS The Phantom of the Rollercoaster
Now when do we get to KISS saves Santa?
Everyone knows Pterodactyls can't stand the screech of a guitar!
A classic from my childhood!
I'm super old. In 1977, I was ten and in the KISS ARMY. And OMG, I wanted so much to watch this movie. But, oh wow, it's so bad. I'm not exaggerating about how bad this is. Also, I'm not exaggerating about being a KISS freak. I had younger siblings and since my parents were at work by the time we woke up and got ourselves to school, it was my job to make sure everyone got out of bed. Well, there was one perfect way. Detroit Rock City of course. Don't listen to the short version. Put on the five minute version full blast on your 1970's HiFi and rock the house. It was fun. And no one could sleep through it and it ends with a car crash.
I hope you’ve seen Detroit rock city:))
Thumbs up for that thumbnail alone, Brad fits in way too well with the rest of the band
I remember seeing this, back when I was about 7. Now that I'm nearing 50,
I'd be curious to check it out again.
I remember watching this movie on TV when it was first broadcasted when I was a kid. And I loved it.
But as an adult I find the movie absolutely ridiculous.......But still AWESOME BABY!!!!!
I hope we get Ken Russell's Tommy The Movie this month, I've wanted to see a Cinema Snob review of that one for a long time.
As long as Nostalgia Critic stays away from it
One time I saw KISS ride on stage on top of a giant mechanical spider. I’m not sure anything in this movie is unbelievable.
Sex Panther by Odeon. It's illegal in nine countries. Yep, it's made with bits of real panther, so you know it's good.
60 percent of the time it works every time.
I always look forward to this every year
YES. Can't wait to watch this.
Wish this would have come out 2 days ago, would have made a great birthday video to watch.. oh well 2 days after is not too bad hahahahaha. Love the Cinema Snob segments
I love this Bit of musical march in September. One of my favorite gags. It’s so funny every year. I was pretty sure you would run out of bad musicals
Lloyd's attitude aside, KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park was a monumental made for TV movie when I watched it with my teenage friends on a 10" Sony colour TV on October 28, 1978. To my 15 year old self and a lifelong devout KISS fan, the movie fell short of my expectations. It played more like a Scooby-Doo episode to my 8 year old self, yet real fans got to hear and see the real KISS talk with a backing track of our favourite songs. That was its limit, but it was a great segwey into the Dynasty tour in '79.
YES! Keep up these cult deep dives, Snob!
Kiss! 🤘
Still, it's got more dialogue than Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
At least Kiss are more believable heroes than Peter Frampton who can't beat Steve Martin without assistance, can't save his girlfriend and got a happy ending despite doing the minimum.
But Frampton and the Bee Gees managed to kick the shit out of Aerosmith. Which just happened tp be the part KISS turned down when asked to be in Sgt. Pepper
@@terrytheman3317 Apparently they didn't see themselves as villains, unlike Alice Cooper.
@@williamcrowe2576 I heard they weren't thrilled by the fact that the climax had them losing a fight to Peter Frampton and the Bee Gees.
Did you know Kiss was originally going to play Aerosmith’s role, but they choose to do this instead
Now I wish *more of my favorite musicians had their own movie.*
You had me with the stuffy old dean running the park. I have to see this movie.
I hope you're finally doing the infamous 1988 Carrie The Musical for "Musical march (in September).
13:05 “and their hygiene”
(Gene Simmons enters the scene)
“Hi, Gene!”
I could see Kiss making a cameo in Guardians Vol. 3. I wouldn’t LIKE TO, but I could see it.
I saw the thumbnail and I was like, "Musical March in September?" :D
Note to self, you can turn someone into a controllable robot if you glue a small resistor to the back of their neck.
Ah ha!!!! I knew it
YEAH!! I have too find a complete version of this movie as Ive never seen it, and my dad who got me into KISS, sadly only got the last five minutes if the film when it was on TV. I want the both os to be able to watch it together. Some fun facts: Peter Criss was dubbed by sideswipe form transformers. Peter Criss actually got into an accident while filming and was pronounced dead when he arrived at the hospital but hen came back to life hence his persona the cat an. Ace rode his motorcycle around the park while drunk and crashed it into a coaster. None of the KISS member were given a script to read lines form so they always had to shout “Line!” For their next line and a comic was made from this. For years Paula Nd Gene did not want anyone mentioning the film and swore to destroy every copy they found only over the years it became a cult classic amongst fans and they sometimes talk about it and will allow it to be released. The script went through many rewrites during filming which angered the members. Sadly the park it was filmed at has closed down and was demolished. When Scooby Doo and KISS rock and Roll Mystery came out and then I found out about this film, the parallels from both make it feel like the scooby doo movie was Hanna Barbera’s way of making it up to gene and Paul/KISS and staying sorry. Can’t wait for the sequel to that.
I remember seeing this back in the early 90s. Ah, the memories. It really is pretty bad, but in that "so bad it's fantastic" way. And Anthony Zerbe? Hell yes!
My dad had this movie but I was only able to watch it once
That is why I know about the song rip and destroy my
Loved the shaggy 2 dope joke
I loved this movie when I was 13!
Who's here before this video gets deleted by gene simmons?
You should review "Detroit Rock City," one of the best movies ever.
How did you watch this? I can only find it in VHS form on Amazon. I first saw it in 1996 when my step dad introduced KISS to my family (I was born in 1987)
I couldn't stop laughing during your review. Thanks.
Anthony Zerbe DID play a cop on "Harry O".
