    Actual reasons :
    1. Wide geographical spread.
    2. Longer distances between residential and commercial areas
    3. NCR Towns further spreads the territory
    4. Relatively better road infrastructure ( Length & width is more than other cities)
    5. Extreme weather conditions
    5. Higher per capita income
    6. Status symbol
    7. Safety concerns ( women safety, road fatalities)
    8. Low taxes and fuel prices

Along with metro, the railway system is underutilized in Delhi and Bangalore. These 2 cities can start local train services on their railway network. Also I have seen in Mumbai, delhi ,Bangalore is that metro and railways is very badly interconnected. delhi metro's stations and major railways stations are really bad and pain when you have luggage with you. in Mumbai metro hasn't reached the major railway stations for outstation trains yet. But line 3 is going to connect atlesat 4 of them. I have seen the map and where the metro stations are constructed and its the same case. It is going to be very badly connected. Mumbai central. Churchgate, CSMT, dadar and bandra terminus. All of their connecting stations on line 3 are like completely on the other side of the road. you have to get out of metro station or use a terrible walkway to those major stations. There is also a very bad interlinking of metro and buses. Hence people rely more on autos and 2 wheelers. India needs a good city planning which is dogshit even in the most planned cities like Chandigarh, navi Mumbai, noida, etc.

Buses, lots of buses, and interconnected cycle lanes with tree canopies will save Delhi from the urban sprawl it has become. Delhi also needs vertical expansion instead of horizontal. Sadly I see no change in either policy makers' mindset or even public. Delhi could've become a city rivaling European cities, instead we are trying to emulate Western Asia and tier 2 US cities, resulting in heavy air pollution and urban sprawl.

Over reliance on gated, wall covered, isolated buildings & campuses is going to restrict & delay this transition of India on public transport & pedestrian friendly system development no matter how many & how good footpaths & metros we built. Posh office & residential area buildings need to be built in the same zones & they should act like an open to street shopping malls on ground floor level. Look at all the areas & the buildings & their relations to the footpaths & streets where so many people are walking & wandering around in any large cities of north/south america, uk-europe,chine, japan, korea, south east asia, etc. Here, people working & staying near white field have to commute to MG road or Koramangla to get the downtown experience.

even with such a great metro system, people choose to travel via car due to status and car centric development. 25 perc of land area is just roads, when compared to other "good" public transport cities like london where only 9 perc of land area is roads, this is very high. whenever trave via car will be faster than public transport, people will choose cars. They are building RRTS to connect other cities with delhi, but along with that they built an expressway too to meerut and gurgaon, now most people who own cars will go via road and only lower income people will go via RRTS, and road traffic will continue to increase.
The govt is still not understanding this, and is making new flyovers, expressways etc. The cycle lanes are being added, but only in posh areas, but waha bhi the cycle lanes have ballars which obviously makes it difficult for cycles to enter (even though they prolly added this to prevent bikes).
I think DMRC and DTC need better co-orporation, they are developing bus routes and metro completely independently, this just makes it ineffective. Also imo, they need to pedestrianize CP and make high rises around that area. CP has good metro and bus connectivity too, so it would be easy to do so I think. A lot of people walk there anyway.
One good thing delhi govt is doing that is, increasing parking fees in many areas. It should continue to do so, in every major commercial area.

Ab India me jyada car focus development ho Raha h
Last year tak mere Village se City ka road 2 lane tha
Ab wo 4 lane highway ban chuka h aur villages ke byepass jata h
which means ki ab buses aur baaki public transport village me aata nahi to hame 2 km by walk jana padta h. To ab private vehicle hi option bachta h.
Next thing mera office city me sector side h to waha public transport na ke barabar h aur vaise bhi mostly sector banaye hi cars ko focus kar ke banaye jate hain.

I don't think that there are too many cars in Indian cities. Actually traffic is created by bikes and rickshaws. India is a motorcycle dependent country like the US which is car dependent. Also the public transportation is only available on major routes of the cities therefore people living away from them don't have any other option than bikes especially.

Aur Cars kabhi bhi kam nahi honay wali hai Delhi mein kyonki Delhi ke log long drive jyada krte hai better connectivity ke karan. 4 ghate ke andar mein Delhi se koi bhi Chandigarh, Jaipur, Dehradun, Haridwar aur Agra araam se pahuch jata hai. isliye hr weekend Delhi walen ghumne nikal jaate hai. Aur isiliye car chodd ke koi Public Transport pe kbhi bhi shift nahi honay wala.

The Biggest thing is that Delhi has a very large land area compared to other cities and a lot more families live in Delhi. Delhi probably has the biggest middle class and many registered cars of Delhi are used outside of Delhi in places like Gurgaon, Noida , Ghaziabad. Delhi has the best metro network at 390 km virtually every part of Delhi is well connected . Also people need to go from Delhi to Noida , Gurgaon etc and standing in metro or buses makes you very tired. If someone is earning above 10 lpa , he or she wishes to travel safely in a private air conditioned vehicle and that is why people buy cars. Nobody wants to stand everyday for one and a half hour in public transport after working hard entire day.

@bablu Dude you are being overdramatic. Being a Bengali myself, this comment is completely uncalled for. He is specifically talking about cities with highest number of cars and sadly Kolkata doesn't make the cut even in top 5. You can find it out with a simple google search.

What kind of behaviour is this? You are getting angry, and You are calling other people Racist, just because your own (or your favourite) city was not in the video.
But can you reconsider thinking, that why is this the case?
Also, why are you so salty about the development of new metropolitan areas (or probably, atleast those metropolitan areas overtaking Kolkata)?
This is probably the 20-30th time I'm seeing someone comment a comment, where they are just angry just because their city (or their fav city) was not added.
Why this type of people are not proud of development of new metropolitan areas, though? Don't we all share the same land? Don't we all come under the same flag of India? Is the hate against each other more important than our India?
Now, I am not calling you an extremist,
I'm pretty sure, that if this type of mindset grows and if they are all extremist, then, Our country India, after 100-120 years (when it would have become a superpower, by the hardwork of Billions) will be torn down by extremist people, of this mindset.
I mean, You surely have the right to question the government for less development, but you should not, just throw hate at someone you find on internet, just because title of their work, doesn't include your city (or your favourite city).
(All I wanted to say is that, People with such mindset, are not healthy for the land of diversity. Now, I might have hurted you in the process of proving this, As I am not the most saint person ever. Sorry if I hurted your feelings, Have a great day!)
