They do the machines last so that they dont just go off what the machine says and be lazy. But yeah i agree with u. They taking some for themselves
Seperation of duties. But between the cameras, the two seperate counts by the officers, and the machine's final could guess this was the best way to handle it. Not perfect tho.
But Fraud Prevention is all about minimizing costs, so this is probably the most cost effective system.

My cousin used to be a CBP agent. He said they usually get caught when they steal, try to steal, or take bribes.

Seriously, $800,000 sounds like that's what it was supposed to be and with how much time the drug traffickers took to wrap up each bundle I'm positive their counts right. That leaves Customs miss-counting or someone took $578 thinking no one would notice.
It'll be different if it was a totally off number too, like $734,632 but to have it that close to an even $800,000 seems fishy.

No matter what you hear, know that they don't always turn in 100% of the money confiscated off camera. These people make between $45 and $68k a year risking their lives. They'd be stupid to access hundreds of thousands in cash and not partake in the fruits of finding it with little-to-no supervision when it's only going to be seized by the government! Nobody's that forthright!

Are you that naive? The war on drugs has been a failure for 50 years. They've continued to do the same things over and over and the more and more people continue to do drugs. The best way to dismantle a cartel is to legalize drugs..it will bring the price down (unless it's taxed at a ridiculous rate) and take away their incentive and their power.
