My mom used to make donuts. She made both raised donuts and cake donuts. Both types got deep fried. The main difference is that the raised donuts had yeast in them and had to raise before being fried. I tried making cake donuts; but, never could get the raised donuts quite right. I still have a small deep fry, I think it's a Fry Baby. But, I use it to make fry bread. With a hole in the middle it is kind of like a donut; but, flatter. My kids used to love them; so, I made them a lot more often.
