    I learned how to swim in high school because it was part of our PE course. One of the first things they teach you is a deadman's float. You let your body relax and float on your stomach so you don't exhaust energy. They also taught back floating but I could never get it right. Feel so sorry for the family of the father and daughter. My condolences and R.I.P.

    When o was a little kid there was a pool right next to the laundry room at our apartment complex and my grandma took me with her to do laundry and i wandered off with my bouncy ball playing like a little kid does and my ball happened to bounce into the pool, i leaned down over the pool to try n fish out my ball and i leaned too far and fell in. My grandma was inside the laundry room and i fell in and started drowning.. i remember it like yesterday, i looked up from under the water and saw what i thought was the sun because it was like a super bright light just outside the surface of the water... I remember the taste of the chlorine still because i took in a huge gulp of water as o ran out of air, out of nowhere some random man pulled me out of the water like in one swoop one second to the next i was in the water literally drowning and the next i was laying on the pavement next to the pool and the guy said go nack with your grandma... Never seen the guy... Like i never saw his face and he disappeared... Howd he knew i was with my grandma? Idk .. i believe it was my guardian angel and it wasnt my time to die yet...

    When I was a kid, everyone warned about not swimming for at least an hour after eating. I don't hear that any more. When I was 14 I went swimming with a friend (unsupervised) in a lake. No one was around. Both of my legs cramped up and I could not move them at all. I was always able to swim, so I was dog paddling with my arms, but telling my friend my legs didn't work. Her dad pulled up right then in the parking lot and my friend yelled to him that I was in trouble. He came right in and got me out. I don't know what causes leg cramps when swimming, but once you get them, you can't use your legs. I think the warning needs to be emphasized still. Like Smokey the Bear and forest fires.

      Very good point. This can easily happen when someone is dehydrated too. So, it's very critical to have some type of self-floatation device always in the water, if you ask me.

    • @moonshoes11
      @moonshoes11 6 месяцев назад +2

      Yeah, so…the idea that you should wait an hour after eating before swimming is a myth. The myth is based on the idea that eating increases blood flow to the stomach and intestines for digestion, which means there's less blood to supply oxygen and remove waste from muscles while swimming. However, the body has enough oxygen to supply both the stomach and muscles. Additionally, swimming doesn't inhibit blood flow to the stomach, and there's no scientific basis for the recommendation to wait.
      I’m glad you used your head and were able to make it to safety.

    I’ve been taking my kids with me swimming since baby’s, at about 3-4 yrs trying to get them used to water they are 9 and 10 now and are both pretty good swimmers. My oldest 17 yrold. Just Graduated HS. And Is a life guarding at a Resort Indoor & Outdoor Pools his 2nd year. When he was little and with his Mother he had a couple Scares when no one was paying attention I taught him young as well. Just today my 2 little ones were at the pool by ourselves n I went over with them # 1 Do Not Panic !! Being Scared in A scary situation is Normal but Panicking may be the worst thing u can do try n keep calm! Yell for Help! Treading water takes almost no energy if ur Calm u can Roll over on ur back And float , ur body will automatically float while airs in ur lungs , even more so in salty waters ) but to make ur way to shallower water or a side of the pool and if worse comes to worse if u can reach the bottom take a deep breath and keep going down till ur feet hit Push upwards pushing ur intended direction take another deep breath go under push up and repeat !
    Oceans are scary and can be unpredictable! Waves slamming you when trying to get air rip currents dragging you out! Let it and calmly swim left or right till u are no longer being sucked in then swim back to shore!
    Myself or a Lifegaurd will hear or see what’s happening You focused on Being able to Breath n get air calmly knowing and focusing on what u have to do will save ur life! I pray nothing like that ever happens! But being Comfortable And Confident in the water and your abilities to swim go a long way.
    I’ve had some scares getting thrashed around by waves slamming head first into shells n sand going up for air only yo get a mouth full of salt water n a wave slamming into my face , just kinda went with it fought my way up n got a breath and got ready for the next one until I could stand or calmer water came.
    Def felt that fear I think having a plan on what to do n not let chaos n panic take over is what helped.
    IDK didn’t mean to write a frickin book about it can’t believe I typed this much on a comment, but hopefully it helps someone maybe to teach a kid to swim , stay safe always watch the little ones !!

      If not, even more importantly, you better learn to swim, it was common for us as kids, dad taught us as kids, just as he taught us to ride a bike etc. It could just be at a swimming pool, we had our own in ground swimming pool growing up as did most our neighbors.
