- Surface dryness is very misunderstood when it comes to the skin. You can have any skin type oily, combination-oily, combination-dry, and dry skin ALL of which can have surface dryness. Surface dryness is a sub-condition, meaning this is something you can change quickly with the right skincare regimen.
The most common problem for surface dryness is in the first step of your regimen, using the wrong cleanser. Most people that use foaming, drying, or striping cleansers have surface dryness.
It’s important to always keep the skin clean, but soft and supple NOT tight and dry. Use protective products following your cleanser to keep the skin hydrated and protected so that it heals quickly and stays young and youthful.

Makes so much sense! No wonder why sometimes I add hydrating products and moisturizers from over exfoliation (from tretinoin) and the products just couldn't penetrate my skin!

What causes all these issues
Cleansers still dry my skin out so badly even the ones that claim to be hydrating and gentle. I get so oily throughout the day. Gel hydration don’t help. I am just thinking about going back to using vaseline because the dryness is so uncomfortable.
