As someone else has already said, I had problems with pellets coming off when hitting water, don’t think the idea is for long range casting. I added Horlicks powder to pellets & it alleviated the pellets breaking up. I only use this method in Summer when bites tail off using method feeder, with very good results. Anyway, cheers for the Christmas morning video & I wish You, your Dad, & the rest of your family a Very Happy Christmas & Tight Lines for 2023. 👍🏻👌🏻🎣🎣
You have to let the pellets soak up always do them the night before. They can be cast long range when prepared properly it’s a very very good method in winter
Maybe the cones are for pole fishing were you can lower it gently into the water. Hookbait with the pellets around it will be on the bottom and not affecting the float. Merry Christmas. 🎄
You're right, it's not much for a fiver and that's why I design and 3d print my own pellet cones. I'd also recommend one of those bait spoons. It's essentially like two spoons on a spring handle and you simple put your hook bait in it and squeeze it around the hook. You don't need to pull the kooklink through the pellets everytime when using the bait spoon.
Maybe they came out like you said for the summer maybe up in the water or surface fishing maybe with slow sinking pellets or floating pellets but then you also have the floating feeder's or slow sinking feeder Cheers Mate
Great video thanks for trying it out, I might make some up with hook lengths and freeze them and put in thermos flask and see how that works, all the Best Westy.
Coppen soaked the night before work for me. They will turn into 'peanut butter' if you work them. If you want them to 'open up' add about 1/4 Skrettings
Used them the very first time i used a feeder rod on the very first time on my club water, had a good day with them. Never used them since. Will have to dig them out for next year. Merry Christmas pal, tight lines 🎅🎄
All the best to you n your dad (and family!) I wouldn’t bother with the pellet cone for the very reasons you mentioned! You’d be better off with a little pva bag. I know your trying new stuff. Think it was a method to catch a few anglers. If the cone does fly off on the cast it will probably smash to bits on impact. Great video again mate. Always take a float rod 😊 oh, I 99% of the time soak pellets at home before the session. Soak the pellets drain and save the water for my spray bottles. Just make sure you put the lid on the tub properly before putting it in your bag….. so my friends tell me 🫣😂😂😂 Happy New Year!
Thanks Lee ! We have all been there with tub issues 😬 maggots are the worst ! I agree about the pva bags. Pellet cone is a little gimmicky. But at least people know and can stick to feeder 😂 all the best mate !
Good to see a new method. Looks a little more involved than the trusty method feeder. Happy Christmas to you and your Dad. Father Christmas brought my son a load of new fishing gear including a new feeder rod, so looking forward to getting out with him next weekend.
Fingers crossed this mild spell continues for you ! Hope he manages to christen the new rod with a winter carp 🎣👌🏻 merry Christmas and a happy new year to you and the family.
Well done Westy for persevering with the pellet cone I agree it's not very useful not worth the hassle I'll stick to my guru method feeder good to see dad using a chair and he caught really enjoy your videos keep them coming wish you both a good Christmas and healthy New Year
I always have used them on the pole when fishibg for carp in the margins found there the closest thing to a feeder that you can use on a pole i dont know if thats the intended use but still gets me a few
Happy Christmas, only recently found your channel, everything ecplaind in a uncomplicated way, and fun to watch, just received the same feeder chair as your for Christmas, and can't wait to try it out. Keep the videos coming and all the best for the new year to you and your dad.
Thanks for commenting Gareth ! I’m glad you like them, you won’t be disappointed with the Caperlan chair mate! Lots of exciting stuff to come in 2023 👌🏻👍🏻 Merry Christmas 🎅
@@WestysAngling ive had the caperland chair for nearly 2 years still as i bought it you dont have to pay big prices for decent fishing gear and fish cant read lol
Great video, personally I love the pellet cone , but I use lighter leads and on the tip , mostly in winter , have a great Christmas and a brilliant new year 🎣🥂… ps .. beanie arrived , love it and very warm …. Once again merry Christmas bud 🎣🎣
They are definitely warm beanies Chris ! Nice to hear someone who is on the side of the pellet cone. Do you just use a small 20g bomb or whatever ? All the best to you and the family👌🏻🎣
I use an 8/10 gram ollivettes inline to a 6”to 12” hooklink, it lands a lot lighter , works for me but I always fish the tip but if fishing beyond 20/25 yards I would use small t-bag 🎣🎣
Quicker to feed the empty cone over the hook then fill the cone squeeze and push the pellets out and slide down the hook length. You don't have to keep removing the hook length!
Ah yes this would be a much better way of doing it !! Hadn’t even considered that 😂 thanks Andrew ! In fact neither have guru as it makes the baiting needle redundant 😂🎣
@@WestysAngling same here, I love method feeder fishing on my local club lakes here in Worcester, but sometimes use my barbel rod set up with pVA bag and bomb. For the bigger fish. I have just had an invite to fish at a location on the river Teme and wondering how to adapt to running water and wild fish lol. Perhaps you could do an instructional video method feeding or ledgering in running water? It will be a whole new ballgame for me. Keep the video’s coming, even if you blank they are still entertaining.
I believe people have been having good success just using a heavier method feeder set up on the rivers ! I think they do method feeders to 100+ grams now. Thanks John will do !
Nice Xmas video Westy,Happy Christmas to You and your Dad I think I will stick with the method feeder during winter for deeper water, dont think I would bother with the pellet cup I would use a small pellet feeder in the margins during summer but that my preference, keep up the great videos they are always welcome.
Definitely stick with the method feeder Martin 🎣 Happy Christmas to you and your family also. I have the pellet method feeders but never got found to using them, I will have to give them a go in 23 👌🏻👍🏻
Ive seen these but not really known what they was for i dont think you can beat a method feeder as you say much quicker fishing with a feeder but well done for trying diferent things you are the method master lol
Why do you need the thread er ??? . And why take the hook length off ??. Just pass the hook length still connected through the pot then fill it with pellets!!!!!!!.
You are doing it all wrong, 1 the pellets have to be slightly wetter than you would normally have them so they will stay on in the cast. 2 you leave the pellets in the cone and thread the needle through and hook your line and pull it through. 3 you are threading the cone from the wrong end. I hope this helps. Good luck and tight lines.

Wrap the cone of pellets with pva tape if you need to cast long distances. I generally fish the pellet cone on my pole and gently drop the rig in.

Best thing to do is to watch Andy May on the Pellet cone it might help you.

Happy Christmas Ste ! 😂 nice meeting you also !
Merry Xmas Ste to you & your family.
Another steve !
Vast majority of fishermen are called Steve John or Paul it seems 😂 good solid names 🎣👍🏻👌🏻
Use a pva binder or horlicks powder, it binds pellets together but still breaks down in cold water.
I find it cumbersome ! ,...... I wish you and your family a happy new year 2023,... and lots of fish 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟

No problem Michael ! Sounds like a good idea to try !
Great method this and not just in winter ...
Micros have to be slightly wetter than normal though ..
Andy may does a great vid on it
Happy holidays m8! Cant wait for your 2023 videos! My rods are comming out of the rodbags this spring, to cold for me atm.

You most definitely can’t beat the method feeder! 🎣
I like to watch an everyday angler try different tactics than using the pro tactics
Watch Steve ringers video on the cone
I dont think cone is used for long casting (that is for method or pellet feeders). It is probably better to lower it in margins.
Merry xmas westy. I had ice issues everywhere i went, managed a session on crook hall farm on xmas eve tho, plenty of silvers and 1 lost carp :(
I’m looking forward to trying there in the spring !
You need to add pellet binder they work ok then
The sticky micros might be better
Used them years ago. Had same problem. Try adding some horlicks
Great idea this Paul! Definitely would help bind them together!
Why don't you just put the attached hook line thru the cone and then mold the pellets around that hook line, instead of using that needle.
Exactly that's what I've just commented...
Just had a thought , maybe they should be called pellet con !
Where bouts were you fishing
