I do enjoy these old movies, no bad language etc - they are a pleasure to watch.
Hear hear ! Wonderfully entertaining films like these prove that a movie doesn't have to indulge in profanity or graphic violence to be enjoyable to watch !
Good film. Given that so many of these old movies are rotting away and lost, it is a good thing that youtube provides a place for them to be appreciated. As a by product of the posting, the film is preserved in an informal library.
Well said and well put.
I absolutely LOVE these old movies. I grew up on them ... reruns in the 50s on T.V. matinees. Thanks so much. Beloved tacky memories from my childhood.
A brave, savvy young woman takes matters into her own hands to find her husband's murderer; solid acting by the protagonist. Thank you
I too appreciate goldstandard$ uploadoing this bodacious "blast from the past" for us to enjoy. I really liked it ! Fast moving with a good script & cast.
Penny Edwards does a great job "cast against type" in this film. This B-film is better and much more fun to watch than most of the dreck coming out of Hollywood today! Thank you very much for sharing this with us.
Dreck is putting it charitably. LOL😃
These old movies certainly had great plots.
Good little movie I really enjoy it very much , thanks for the post
No argument there....
A Simple Gem. Great film to pass an Hour
Indeed. Greatly enjoyed it. Had never even heard of this gem till coming across it here at RUclips. Republic made some pretty good noirs & crime dramas.
Well I sure enjoyed this ! A great quality upload, thank you ! 🙂🇨🇦.
great movie, like how they keep their hats on while driving, mine gets blown off
Maybe the hair cream kept it in.
I think it was those studio techs who invented Gorilla Glue to keep those has on in these old flicks.
I've never seen such well mannered crooks! Great film thank you!
The "better class" of crooks & grifters back then took pride in dressing well & looking their best.
Penny is most remembered for the Roy Rogers films she made while Dale took time off to raise her kids. She does a good job here.
Big fan of both Roy and Dale, didn't know this, thanks for sharing.
Wow ! Didn't know about Penny's appearances with Roy Rogers. Thanks for that tantalizing bit o' trivia ! I totally agree that she gives a marvelous performance in this early '50s crime drama.
Oh no! They shot my white wall! That motorcycle copper almost lost it! Pretty good flick! Couldn't believe the groom died! Dang, I'm about to give the whole movie away! Thanks for posting! 👍✌
Great movie and it in black and white
Thanks for the upload goldstandard$
Ed
Ditto.
Good movie 🎥! Love these old movies!
Me too ! Thank heavens so many of them can be seen right here at RUclips !
I do love her voice ❤👏🏼
She was no Zasu Pitts, but she indeed have one wonderful voice !!
Thanks for posting. Good movie
Inubitably !
Well constructed with a tight story line.
In reference to the movie or the dame?
Great movie, great plot and great acting. Thanks for posting.
You said it !!
Great tight B film, great print, was extremely engrossing. Thanks for posting they don't make them like this anymore.
Sandragail Goudelock your not the first person to say that and my guess is you won’t be the last.
I just missed these films , (I was born in the 50s ) when they came out so I’m glad I’m seeing them now.
If they HAD made film like the ones today ALL the actors and Actresses WOULDN’T WASTE THEIR TIME
WITH THEM.
You took the words right outta my mouth !
Great movie!!!!
Pretty good print! Thanks for sharing.
That's how I feel !
Great stuff! Thanks for posting this movie. Noir is my favorite genre. I also write it. Very good.
Share your writing!
Thanks for posting. Enjoyed it.
Inspector Henderson from the old Superman show
Good ol' Robert Shayne ! Marvelous actor ! Gave a wonderfully comedic performance in Warner Bros' "Christmas in Connecticut" from 1945.
Really god movie....suspense...car chase...shoot out.
Excellent little "B" movie. Hadn't seen Miss Edwards before. Quite stunning. Like the Ford and especially the Lincoln convertibles. Police in LA had tons of Nash autos in ths time period. Not beautiful but very distinctive.
Great from beginning to end (except for the first couple minutes which look like an Institutional video!).
Great movie and storyline!👍
Excellent ☺
My sentiments exactly !
Thank you VERY much for uploading this gem of yesteryear ! Good print ! And even though it had a rather abrupt ending & was a bit implausible at times, I really did enjoy it. Good script & cast ! CHEERS !! 🙂
Unusually good film noir
@an-t m / On the contrary!!! Vast majority of the old “Film Noir” movies were exceptionally good quality. It was all about interesting story lines, great acting and NO CGI or special visual/sound effects.
Right On !
Enjoyable movie. 🍿Thanks...Jan. 2023
I liked the crew / cast... they were so good at finding just the right guys to play the Mobsters, Police, Detectives & Damsel In Distress parts back in those great old days, & the movies always seemed to bring the characters of the story totally, "to life".
In this film, I also really liked the gutsy "Dame". She sure was pretty as a brunette or blond, but I was waiting for her to change into the "fiery redhead" ~ although, I probably couldn't tell the difference... just like I couldn't & never would have guessed that the stolen sedan was "green"! lol >°•°< Well, anyway ---- she was much too sweet to play the part of any "hoodlum chick".
Is it just me, or did she talk a little bit like Marilyn Monroe?!?! Even her mouth or nose w/ her innocent demeanor, at times, was a real close likeness.
This was a good flick! Thank you, for sharing these old treasures!!! I'm looking forward to finding / watching another one of your crime-stopper, mobster & mystery movies all wrapped in one hot tamale!
~ Peace
So nice ,, well done ,,
You speak the truth, Kemo Sabe !
So many trials saved so effectively. The lawyers would be crying.
Thankyou for posting. A good film.xx
You said it !
Thanks for upload :)
I agree 100 per cent !
Good old fashion movies from the past. I like these short movies. The young bride and widow Claudia, looks better as a brunette. However, she does look stunning as a blonde but I like dark haired beauties.
+Cpt.Grimsdale Nemo (Seneca) I run a risk in informing that it's delightful when women are objectified, we just love that.
Although hair coloring is a feature of this story, there's more substance to it as there is to women in general. But it's okay, you go on objectifying.
Cpt.Grimsdale Nemo Yup wayyyyyyy better as a brunette for sure ! Doesn't measure up as a blond very boring as a blond !
Cpt.Grimsdale Nemo I didn't like her brunette hairstyle, so maybe that's why I liked her better blonde. Such a pretty girl, either way.
Great movie thanks
I couldn't agree more.
Bettinger has a great smile.
Not good unless fritz clicks his heals and “pops!”
That schtick kept him popular in movies & TV for decades !
Wow, the mouth-popping guy (from Lost In Space)! At 15:45.
That's Fritz Feld. Who off screen was married to prolific movie & TV actress Virginia Christine (best known as "Mrs Olson" in those classic Folgers Coffee TV commercials from the 60s & 70s).
a great remake in the offing.
Omg. Inspector Henderson of the old Superman movies with George Reeves.
Always did like him (actor Robert Shayne).
She works the hood in jail , trying to find a killer.
I like this film, first time I see: Penny Edwards was WEARING THOSE CLOTHES, very sexy young woman.
Thanks for sharing with us.
She was no Hope Emerson, but Penny was indeed from hubbahubbasville !!
Excelent movie !❤❤❤❤😂🎉
Penny Edwards reminds me of Janet Leigh.
I think she's better than Leigh though!
I was thinking the same thing ! Similar in looks & voice.
Thats an hour well spent!!
is there anyplace that shows old movies like this in theaters in usa?
Who plays the younger detective?
Yes, the Capital Theater in Greeneville, Tennessee
Didn't Howard Hughes own Republic Pictures?
Herbert J Yates owned Republic. Hughes owned RKO
Ron Becton Thanks.
There's a flaw in the script starting at timemark ~42:35. It's when the two detectives confront the character, Ms. Rankin, in the beauty parlor. She is the wife going undercover. The script should have created more tension by having the policemen articulate the very real danger to her of continuing -- after all, the gang has already killed the husband -- because of the ruthlessness of the car theft gang.
Instead of heightening the dramatic tension at that point, the younger cop merely acquiesces in the older cop's suggestion of an additional 24 hours. Maybe such a plot element -- "You'll be dead, Ms. Rankin, if there is any misstep, as dead as your late husband" -- had been included but was dropped in editing.
What are your thoughts?

@gorge5412
Way too late now😂
By 70+ years
When a dame was a dame and men were glad about it.
Photographer on the field
The extra who walks through the shot at 14:26 is the spitting image of Joan Crawford.
The convenient (and always mis-used) amnesia scenario was getting tired even in 1951 - it was dredged up when the writers got themselves into trouble and needed a quick fix
Wow -- good call on that extra. The same cheek bones and eyebrows as Crawford.
That very well may be Crawford; her walk, bearing and looks are perfect. Even her hairdo is a slightly grown out version from “Harriet Craig” (1950). The way she casts her eyes down is a Crawford mannerism. For an extra she is very prominently featured for no real reason. Maybe she owed someone a favour or did it as a gag.
They used that as a plot device in a lot of TV shows too over the years !
Call the meat wagon for the guy
Gone are the days of classic cars, pay phones and great music behind scenes. Oh well, the country is going to hell ah bouncing.
You said it, bruddah.
The actress looks wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more sultry as a Brunette ! Her features are exquisite and stands out much more as a Brunette ! She looks mousy as a Blond for some reason ! Hmmm yes wayyyyyyyyy better as a Brunette !
oh well, far fetched --but entertaining. Thanks
I certainly have a notion to second THAT emotion !
BUT MICKEY MOUSE🐭 DIED😢 AND WILL BE BURY IN A GALAXY FAR FAR AWAY. NOW, LETS HAVE A MOMENT OF PRAYER🙏 FOR THE POOR RAT.🐀
4 star rating
Very naive ....
The homicide cop is a dotard. Hands?
