  • Full broadcast of the Skate Vert contest at X Games 2005. Shaun White's first big year. A great Bob run too.
I recently got my hands on an old VHS tape of ~6 hours of the 2005 X Games. It was a copy of a copy of an SLP-taped home recording, so the quality was *extremely rough*. AI deinterlacing and upscaling could only work so much magic, but I think it came out pretty watchable, considering.

It's crazy how much more chill everything was back then. I think they've gotten way too uptight and rigid in the X Games now. They need to just relax and let the skaters flow with it like they used to.

These are awesome! This was the first year that got me hooked. Really hope you have more from 2005.

I miss having vert contests like this, especially with a ramp that has new panels and more features to it. It feels like they've been using the same X Games ramp for 6 years now.

I remember watching this live and the same thing still bugs me. Bob's run is so technically far above everyone else's, the judges didn't really know what to do with it. An 88 is insulting for a run that caliber. Switch tricks over the channel, switch lip tricks, ollie to tail tap, and his switch one footer are tricks that literally no one else can do and could podium in the best trick contest in that era. I have always felt his genius and skill has been historically and criminally underrated. It wasn't until Big air debuted that his talent got really recognized.

How are you gonna call Sandro "the 900 man" while you're sitting next to Tony Hawk?

Thanks, this is a classic! I'm looking for the 2003 X Games Global Championship skateboard park event. Team America (i.e. Eric Koston and Chris Senn) won the event. Do you happen to also have this footage or do you maybe know where I could find it?

The commentator is Tony Hawk. Those skaters are all his homies. I have never heard anyone describe him as rude.
