They advertised them as the VT-555, later renamed as the VT-225. 225hp @3000 rpm, max torque of 445 ft-lbs @1900 rpm. Don't lug it, wind it up like like a 2-stroke 318 Detroit.
I like the little v8 cummins. I have a VT504 also known as a VT190 in my tandem International and goes well for a little engine with a MT653 Allison auto behind it. Sounds the same as the VT555
Very underpowered and unreliable engines, here in Mexico were widely used in 10 whelers an buses, people realy like them during 30 years most of the drivers learned to drive whit them. It's little brother v378 (155 hp) was better in therms of reliability , it also was very popular here until dealers started using 855 cu 250 hp n/a and the 290 hp turbo cummins. Nice truck by the wey!!!
