  • I am so sorry I left everyone hanging for so long. This is the last episode in our 2+ year journey on Tarka, and it has been long overdue for some time now. I hope to follow-up soon with an short epilogue of what has transpired since Tarka was sold. I am forever grateful for everyone's patience, understanding, and I hope it was worth the wait.
    ==
Proceeds from this video will be donated to the Coral Reef Alliance. Donations can also be made directly by visiting their website:
    www.coral.org
Tarka is a 1973 Albin Vega 27 (8.2m) that I bought sight-unseen and without sailing experience on the island of St. Martin in April of 2017. I was thrust head-first into ocean sailing as I got Tarka safely south from what would become the most devastating hurricane seasons on record. We are now working our way west towards the Pacific.
Additional support for Tarka’s sail for CORAL (The Coral Reef Alliance) comes from contributions by:
Soylent - Healthy provisioning for the long offshore passages
Sta Lok - Swage-less terminals for portions of Tarka’s rigging, making it an easy DIY job and allowing for easy inspection
Victron Energy - Providing monitoring solutions for Tarka's batteries, to ensure we always have enough juice to do what we need to.

It is really weird with RUclips Channels. Feels like you're a close friend, even though we'll probably never meet. Just goes to show how much people have in common and how many friends there are that just have met yet.
Thank you for sharing this part of your life with us. 8m so glad you've taken the initiative to LIVE your life in such a wonderful way.

@@TheAdventuresofTarka I started sailing at 18 and it took up quite a bit of my life afterward, and my heart forever. Sometimes it is hard to not chuck it all and go back, but, as you well know, life continues in ways that you just don't expect.
My older brother took his own life a couple years ago. He had some serious medical issues that were proving illusive to any kind of "treatment" (Lidocaine infusions we're the last attempt....). The doctors had him on Oxycodone and ran out with no more available for another 11 days, so it was the problem AND serious withdrawal. My conclusion has been that healthy people do not hurt themselves - or others they love and who love them..... The diseases, whether mental, emotional, or physical often have an incredible role that we, no matter what, can never see, or help with. Just not in our power. No different than cancer or some other terminal illness. It is what it is - but we don't have to like it.
My heart goes out to you, and, even though I really don't know you, I can, and do understand some of what you've had to deal with. It is good to hear you're dealing with it and in healthy ways.
Sailing will most likely always be an INCREDIBLY intimate part of your life..... It can be a lonely part, too, as unless it is with someone else who has BEEN THERE, others just cannot grasp it.....
Jimmy Buffett once put it the best I've probably ever heard, and his words often still evoke the emotions I FELT as you left Tarka - just as I left MiTyme so many years ago:
      "Alone on a midnight passage
I can count the falling stars
While the Southern Cross and the satellites
They remind me of where we are:
      Spinning around in circles
      Living it day to day,
      And still twenty-four hours
      Maybe sixty good years
It's really not that long a stay...."
And there's a Cowboy in the Jungle....
Take care, my kindred fellow human. Never hesitate to reach out!

@@captainmike3557 I'm very well aware of his RUclips relationship and BECAUSE of his living his dream, as so many would like to do, I don't see it as a waste of my time to follow along - even provide a "thumbs up" if it helps.... I find it a much better use of time than watching MOST of what TV provides and cheaper than cable. I've been out there sailing the dream. I know what he's dealing with and experiencing on many levels and applaud his going for it! My time is over. Too old to do it again, although I still get a thrill at the awesomeness that few take the chance to experience.
It is common experiences that create "friendships". He and I, even without knowing one another, share more than many just from that.

Adventures of Tarka was the first channel of any kind I subscribed to. Not Delos, not La Vaga. It was Tarka. I have patiently looked each week for a new video for over a year now and was so unexplainably excited to see a new video. I literally did not believe it at first. I mean, I sat in silence for a moment, and got myself prepared to settle in, before pushing play. I shouted to my kids and they replied "is that the "hot like an oven guy" ?! You inspired me to buy my first boat and begin dreaming of future adventures. Wonderful story telling and a beautiful ending to this adventure. Marvelous job sir. All these people below just like me so happy to see another video. You done good kid. You done good.

LOL. "hot like an oven guy" -- man, I was really into the vibe of the song at the time, but it's so strange that I used "Sexual Healing" as my intro music.
Thank you for following along. I followed Delos on their early days before they blew up, and this is how I felt too whenever they would upload a new episode. It inspired me to buy my boat, and it seems like I've paid the favor forward :)

We build a relationship with sailing youtubers so it's sad when they hang up their lifejackets, but if they can conclude their channel like you have done then it softens the sadness of a parting friendship. Let’s hope your update vid has that Dutch lovely, and maybe even a lil sailor. If so, I’ll buy you a CASE of beers if you ever come our way in FL. You were one of the bestest and honestest sailing you tubers. Sorry about your Dad. Depression should never be ignored. Prayers! 👍🏻 Out!

It’s all connected. When we care and follow their adventures and get the urge or feeling when the next episode comes out he will feel the tug, when we start thinking about it he’s probably working on next episode. Happened so many times on his previous episodes.

Many others have expressed what I'm feeling after watching this episode, much better than I could express it in my own words. I'm sorry to see the story of Tarka and you come to an end, your story telling is compelling, a story that has touched my heart. I wish you well in whatever you do next. Fair winds and following seas sailor.

Man. I can't imagine how hard it was to put together this last video. The emotions must have been challenging to revisit. I think part of me never wanted this video, as glad as I am to see the conclusion of your story with Tarka. Without it, I could just imagine that you were still out West somewhere off a small atoll. Thank you for sharing your story with us. I've enjoyed the journey. I hope life has brought you more great adventures and joy.

Thank you for finally publishing the last chapter on what for me was a very memorable story.
Tarka will sail on and you have already continued down your life's journey.
Life can be complicated, it can also be very simple, you just never really know where it's heading even if you try to make meticulous plans. Many ships pass in the night and I am very happy to have passed you and Tarka on my journey.
I know the pain of losing a loved one by their own hand, it's a pain that will never stop but it can become tolerable.
One thing is for sure, death is forever and no amount of crying or inward thinking will change it.
I have to say the thing that made your YT story for me, you have a very unique style of presentation which is simple in its form and very easy on the way it draws you in. I really can't think of any channel I have actually missed in the way I miss this one.
Good luck young man, you have a life to live and a place in history no matter what you do or where you go.
Just be gentle be kind and be lucky !!!!

First, a huge thank you for making the ending, and it's at least as good as all the other episodes.
I managed to find your channel. already the second or third episode and it almost feels as if we knew each other. But all fun comes to an end, however it felt like a really good friend left without saying goodbye. It was so empty! So that's why I was really happy when this episode finally came. It's great that you want to talk about your dad, really. We need to be able to talk even about these difficult things.
I will go sailing in a few years and hope you find your way back to sailing and that we meet one day. All the best to you! Anders from Sweden

By accident I scrolled down my subscribe list and was both excited to see another video but saddened by the title. I subscribed because I have a Vega, I kept watching because you are a natural and wonderful story teller and videographer. I hope at some point you charge up the drone, pick up your camera and choose a new topic/adventure. Even if it's about cabbage farming I have no doubt it will be captivating. Your honesty and vulnerability are super rare in this endless slosh of video muck. Thank you for your contribution to a better humanity.

I started watching for the sailing and stayed for the adventure. You have a gift for narrating and a filming style which presents your journeys in a relatable way that is hard to come across even with so many youtube sailors. When I recommend sailing videos, I mention you and Chasing Bubbles. I am so very sorry about your dad...too many are lost this way. Thank you so much for opening your heart and your soul. If you ever find your way to CO don't hesitate to reach out -- I'd be happy to buy that beer you were wishing for! -Chase 1978 Pacific Seacraft 25

Thank you for giving us some closure on your sailing journey. The loss of your father does change your perspective on life. My mother committed suicide when I was 32, I understand your loss. The best way to honour your father is to now live your life in the way he would have wanted you to. There is no getting over this type of loss, there is, however, learning how to live with it. That takes time. Blessings to you as you forge ahead in life.

I remember seeing Tarka on YachtWorld and feeling panic, to the point that I sent you a DM on Instagram thinking it couldn't be a legit sale post.
