    13 tips for scaven noobs.
    1. You need food - it gives you campaign bonuses and, more important, ability to put conquered cities to tier 4-5 immediately.
    2. You take food from a) battles, b) pastures like in Miragliano, c) under-empire cities
    3. Your Engineer from Ritual of Doom creates under-empire city with good building, so spam this ritual immediately after cooldown
    4. In under empire try to balance visibility with food and expansion buildings. My favourite is -80 discoverability.
    5. Most efficient and easy to use army is a several plague prists on front which spam clanrats, and 15+ units combination weapon teams or artillery. My personal list: 1 Warlock-Engineer, 4 plague priests, 5 catapults, 5 rattling guns, 3 warp jezzails, 2 plague-wind mortars.
    6. In midgame you should have 5-tier cities, build t5 order buildings, which gives you +1 level for new lord. Once you can hire 13 level warlords, hire warlord, put 2 points in Ravenous Expancion, then fire. +4 of settlement income would be still in effect. Repeat each turn.
    7. For busting research go to Monstrous Abominations tech, it would give you Hell Pit Attendants which increases research rate.
    8. Take an eye on another ancilary - Bell Polisher - he increases capacity for precious Plague Priests.
    9. Sack-city strategy, when you just repeatetly sack same city multiple turns in a row, useful for gaining food(and xp of lords and heroes).
    10. On high battle difficulty AI infantry tries to dodge catapults, but if you play on lower _battle_ difficulty catapults are so OP that I immediately put first conquered city on tier 3, build catapult building and 5 catas into my army.
    11. On lords skill tree always increase your ambush chance.
    12. Stormvermins have no practical sense, their value-for-money is pathetic. Build them just for fun.
    13. Look-watch scaven videos made-crafted by LegendTotalWar. He is the smartest-biggest brain rat, yes-yes!

    My personal problem with the skaven was always that, they are presented as this tide of claws and teeth that overwhelm their opponents with sheer number of bodies it can throw in the meatgrinder, and thats what i was hoping to get when i started playing them...
    But the best way to play them isnt like that at all? They are masters of artillery, weapons teams and heroes, but all their melee just seems lacking. Was really hoping to just flood my enemy with rats, but instead i got nukes and gattling guns 🤷‍♀️

      Create an advanced army with Ikkit at the lead, then you can create hordes of skaven slaves that you use as fodder. Its quite simple and cheap. Easy to be running around with 2-3 stacks supporting the main army. Not to mention that if you buff your slaves and clanrats in the tech tress they can be a nuisance to any army

      @Dollt28 Год назад +9

      true altho the style you describe (overwhelming enemies in melee with big numbers) I guess kinda fits orcs or maybe even some demon factions to a certain degree, however overwhelming enemies with long range weapons, artillery etc. actually kinda fits the "rat" behaviour of the skaven since its so annoying and "not honorable" so I dont mind the fact that they are rather ranged focused

    • @Sarcasmses
      @Sarcasmses Год назад +40

      What I like about skaven is that they are both of the things you said. Make an army of elite artillery and weapons teams, and have 3-4 plague priests in each army. Then you can use the Vermintide spell to summon your expendable hordes, getting you both elite guns and unwashed slave hordes in the same 20 unit army.

    These videos are so useful when you're really in the mood to play a certain type of campaign and don't want to take the choice between one you've done before or one you haven't that maybe turns out 20 turns in just isn't fun that way.
    I also tried the Orion campaign as hyper aggressive (not my usual style) on your recommendation, and have been really enjoying it.

  • @Lucky-Lee93

    Playing as Grom I was over the moon to get an alliance with Ikit Claw and get an outpost built.
    Goblin horde + skaven artillery = no more wood elves.
    I also agree Ikit Claw is not a challenge to play as but definitely one of the most fun if not the most fun.
    I usually only play around 50-70 turns in my campaign. But Ikits was by far my most successful in this time in terms of lands conquered. Stretching as far east as Kugath and south as Mannfred. Didn't go north much, probably Drakenhoff was the most North. I had however landed in Lustria to the south west. Definitely all about stomping the ai and world conquest. Even on harder difficulties.

    It's so nice that you can get Skavenblight so fast to level 4 (level 5 isn't needed that much, as poison wind mortars come from t4 and 5 has mostly monsters that ikit won't need that much). Just sack Tobaro for some turns and you'll have enough food, then occupy tobaro and abandon skavenblight, then resettle it on level 4.

    • @GrasshopperKelly
      @GrasshopperKelly Год назад +6

      Plus the added turns you spent before permanently owning a tier 2+ SBlight, so you're spending not upgrading the buildings. The loss in income, and other chap wasted for an extra few turns to get it to tier 5. When by the time most do that, you'd have the place half way to tier 5 population anyway...

    • @raym5463
      @raym5463 Год назад +6

      Other option that worked well for me was to abandon and upgrade Skavenblight to just tier 3 for Plagueclaws and with about 4 of them in Ikit's army it's easy to grab the entire coastline including Sartosa - and when you have 5 cities (food limit is 125 and it's full) you blow up Skavenblight and bump it to tier 5. It takes rather long to get to tier 5 by normal growth so with that strategy you can have tier 5 around turn 20-25 before food limit techs are researched while stomping everyone around with Plagueclaws. Tier 4 is nice for poison mortars but just upgrading the weapon team building to arsenal takes a lot of time and money; but it's all up to your gameplan and preferences anyway.

      You have to be fast. Recruit a lord on turn 1. Sack Tobaro, put Ikit Claw in raid stance for food, maybe recruit some extra skavenslaves with the new lord. Build Ratling Warrens so you can start research. Turn 2, sack again, put both armies in raid stance. Turn 3, sack, raid, abandon Skavenblight. Turn 4 you should be able to capture Tobaro with Ikit Claw and resettle Skavenblight at tier 4 with exactly 0 food left, one turn before Morghur does his ritual.

      It's mostly managing the food economy; basically do lots of raiding with small armies and win lots of small fights in the early game to pump up the food economy then settle enemy capitals at Tier IV in the early-mid game. How to rush their tech tree is also important since Skaven have some crucial techs, increasing food cap etc.

    I'm quite a slow learner and certainly a casual player when it comes to any strategy games.
    I'm never sure if I'm just meant to turtle with Ikit and just build under-cities everywhere for income & food or if I'm still meant to do some mix of that and expansion.
    Their food mechanic is what gets me a lot of the time and I feel like it determines how much I can actually expand and where I can go.
    Will have to give Ikit another go as I do find him a blast to play.

      you either find a sack city
      or continue to expand on minor cities (without spending food) this is to increase your max food
      once you have around a total of 120 food. you can abandon and resettle your capital instantly to t5 (t4 also works depends on how fast you want to go)

    • @Papadragon18
      @Papadragon18 Год назад

      Sack Tobaro to level up as quickly as possible, make sure to capture Miragliano as soon as possible, since the city has a food-generating building. I think at maximum upgrade(tier 3), it generates some 15 food or something like that, which is gonna keep you afloat for plenty of settlements and armies. At this point you can take it chill if you want, turtle up a bit, get your economy going. Make sure to occupy settlements at as high a level as possible. Sack them a couple of times until you have enough food, but make sure no one else steal them from under your nose. Get friendly with Aranessa, but don't ally with her. The Border Princes have a settlement that generates food as well, if I recall correctly. By the time you're done with the Border Princes and Clan Angrund, you won't have very far to at least a short campaign victory.
      Play Ikit right, and you won't ever have to worry about the food aspect. At worst you'll have to go through the "Oh no, I can't occupy this major settlement at level 4, I'll have to settle for level 3, misery me"-experience.

    TL:DR - Thank you Legend, for all the years of excellent entertainment, tips and tricks!
    Hi Legend. 3 years ago, I was a Warhammer hater and the very fact that it was all you streamed pissed me off. I used to be in the comments saying "WhY oNlY wH3 iZ zUcKy ZuCkY!!!". After watching one of your High Elves campaigns though, I just felt an urge to try it about a year and a half ago.
    I have now clocked 380 hrs in WH2 and 100 hrs in WH3. Weird part is though. Every. Single. Second. of those 480 combined hours, I am playing as High Elves. "Would that not get boring?" - you say. Of course it would, so I resorted to making my own overhauls, tweaking every aspect that had gotten very tedious over the 480 hours. I could now start a new campaign, and make the same amount of progress in one evening, that I could with weeks before. I do not know what has possessed me to torture myself this way. I was only enjoying the first 20 turns of the campaigns either way, so why play till 100? I have no clue.
    But getting to the point of this; with this video, you inspired me to try a different race. This time, I wanted to try the race I hated the most, for no particular reason. All the battles I had fought against them I had auto-resolved... Except for one. I decided to just manually fight one battle against Ikit to test how good my army had become. Bad idea. I set my army up in the standard way; checkerboard but with a minimum of spacing due to me thinking I would shred through those rats with my archers. Worst. Fight. Ever. Standing there watching the vermins flood towards me, a green storm appeared above me, and down fell what looked like a plague infected Soul Quench. The horror my army must have felt, when close to half of the army was wiped out, does not even come close to outweighing the joy I felt as I sat there watching my army disintegrate.
    Thanks for all the years of excellent entertainment, tips and tricks! You are much appreciated.

    I too thought I would hate Skaven, because their play style didn't seem to fit with my favorite race, the Dwarves. But based on Legend's videos and comments I decided to give the greatest-best master inventor rat a try. I was shocked how enjoyable it was. The funny thing is, Skaven weapons team armies play very closely to the Dwarves' "defend and pummel them with shooty death". Their other mechanics were quite enjoyable, especially the ease of ambushing armies. I admit to many instances of my inner Skaven taking over. 😈
    I also tried a couple Brood Horror stacks, which were quite good. I definitely prefer them over Hell Pit Abominations. I did not care for the Gutter Runner stack, it just felt underpowered and easily countered by the AI. It really takes a high degree of micro to pull off successfully.

I fell in love with Skaven and they were my favourite to play only pushed to 3rd favourite when immortal empires came out Love Skarbrand 2nd favourite! But I adore Valkia The Bloody! By far my favourite.

    My main problem with skaven is how much dlcs are needed to get the most of them

      I would not recommend purchasing all of them, Prophet and the warlock is enough. Buy shadow and the blade just in case you want to complete weapons team units

      Getting the one with Deathmaster Snikch was totally worth it imo. Snikchs campaign is one of the most enjoyable I've played since I've gotten the warhammer total war games

    For some reason I've never really given the Skaven a shot. I used to be a Forces of Order weeb, and I suspect there are quite a few of us out there. I recommend to people out there to broaden your horizons and have fun playing more "evil" factions too. Half of the fun of Warhammer is having two dubious factions fight it out

    I think it would be cool if you added how much you expect these campaigns to change over the life of Warhammer 3. Obviously you can't be sure since you're not a dev, but we know someone like Grimgor is going to change drastically whereas most of the Lustria campaigns will likely be pretty static over the life of the game.

      You just have to embrace skavendom. Have a 2nd army just of slaves to throw into the meat grinder, while your other army bombards them. Backstab, ambush, etc.

      Gun type units are really annoying in wh3. You can make it work if you have a good understanding of line of sight, oooor you can get a mod that ignores friendly fire LOS issues

    • @Johann_Gambolputty_of_Ulm

      @@method138 Considering that a concept of "friendly fire" is as alien and unfathomable in Skavendom as "permanent death" for Tomb Kings - this is one of the biggest oversights in TWW design

    I'm a pretty new player, and ikit claw is my favorite LL. I'm having a really hard time with ratling guns because every time I try to select a target for them to shoot, they rush forward instead of just staying in position to hit them. I have checked the obvious things like ammo, line of sight, guard mode is on, and melee mode is off. Idk how to pick high priority targets with my weapons teams without having them sprint into melee combat.
