Great JOB to teach people who are interested in doing their own pet, family pet. THANK you. You are teaching to be HONEST, and NOT just taking tracing paper to steal some ones photo from a magazine or on line, to trace and transfer. But to be Proud of their accomplishment, and REALLY leaning to use their Brain and Exercise it to Learn to SEE. and the proper use of the Tracing Paper.
@@DavePortersArt Timmy reminds me of a blonde version of my parents’ Havanese. He is a darling little dog that provides never ending support to my Dad, who has dementia. If my Dad had to choose between us and the dog, I know I would miss my Dad -lol. It is awesome to witness the devotion between the two, especially since my Dad swore to never “have a damn dog in my house.”🤣💜🤣💜🤣
Thanks David... loved every minute creating all that fur and bring his wonderful energy out. Thanks for the kind word and watching the video. All the best 🙏😊
Brilliant tutorial, thank you. I have used colour pencils, but only starting on pastels. Very different. Your video is inspiring. Im going to subscribe now. 😊
Amazing! Makes me want to go back to pastels again! I moved over to coloured pencils because of the mess with pastels and the cost of framing all my work to protect. But coloured pencils are SO hard, and not being able to do light over dark is doing my head in!
Hi Jen... thank you so much for the kind words. I have used Pastelmat for the surface... it is like zero dust. Also I wrap my work with glassine paper when I store them. All the very best 🙏
I love your attitude to creating a portrait 😊 I’ve watched a couple of your videos in the past, but subscribed today after watching Timmy come to life 🙌🏽😍 I draw on my iPad in Procreate, and use traditional methods of building up layers , so I found your tutorial very useful indeed. Best wishes from Australia 🇦🇺
Thank you so much Dave! Would the same techniques apply if you were to paint this portrait in oils? I'm always fearful of adding white too soon, but I see you glaze over the white to create depth and tonal value then add highlights on top. (I may have answered my own question!!) Love your work!
Hi Sonja... you are welcome... thanks for watxhing... yeah exactly the same way... I have developed my Pastel technique from how I do Oils. Thanks for the loving my work... means a lot to me... all the very best 🙏
Next month with be the portrait of my brother-in-law Steve. Planning to create the long version video of this portrait of Timmy for beginning of June Judith.🙏

I was just wondering how you protect your drawing when it's finished. Do you spray it with a fixative or just frame it? If you just frame it, how long would that last? Thanks so much!
Hi Elaine... I frame under glass and mount... I use museum quality non reflective glass which protects from ultra violet light. I have got portraits 40 years old under normal glass and the pastel still look like they are recently painted with no colour change. I use only the best materials. If I don't frame them I store them wrapped in glassine paper. 🙏

Thank you Dave, in your graphite and pastels do you have line art of the subject, not a problem just curious,
