When investigating this tangled web of who was assigned what, in the end it was: Spectrum HoloByte for all home computer rights in North America Mirrorsoft for all home computer rights in Europe and United Kingdom Bullet-Proof Software (BPS) for all home console and computer rights in Japan (acquired from Mirrorsoft and Tengen, respectively) Nintendo for all home console rights except Japan, where it was controlled by BPS Sega for arcade rights in Japan (which passed over from Tengen and Mirrorsoft) Sega briefly sold Tetris for its Mega Drive console, but it was soon withdrawn because of the long-drawn out legal battle between Nintendo and Atari Games/Tengen. As the Japanese home computer and console rights to Tetris passed down to Bullet Proof Software (Henk Rogers's company), Sega felt it still needed to benefit from the Tetris bandwagon; the company eventually picked up the rights to Columns from programmer Jay Geertsen.
The Tetris movie that is in the works is supposed to be this big sci fi trilogy. Why not just make one movie about securing the rights for Tetris instead? This documentary clearly shows that that would be an interesting movie. I really hope that the Tetris company comes out and says that the sci fi movie is a joke to get press and the real movie is based on actual events.
the Tetris movie brought me back here
Anyone else here after watching the apple tv Tetris trailer
Yup It brought me back to this episode
I am! ✋😀
Watch the movie, it’s great
RIP Mr. Gorbachev.
I wonder if this episode inspired the movie? That story became more popular because of G4's coverage way back in the day.
I like Mr. Pajitnov he doesn't expect anything in return on his idea, he's so humble *hats off sir
18:01 - It was right there, this was the moment this episode pretty much foreshadowed Puyo Puyo Tetris.
In Soviet Russia, Games play You.
In Russia, Tetris Owns You.
This game is just simply addicting.
11 years later, a film was made based on it.
@@ericgarrido2007 Yep.

It really is a tangled web-something out of a political thriller.
Blue Scuti brought me here.
tetris was revolutionary. so simple yet complex. an enigma
RIP Vladimir Pokhilko.
This and Mario Land I would played until the batteries died.
You can sum this up as "People fighting the Soviets and themselves to see who has the right for a game that is nothing more than falling blocks."
Thanks for uploading these :D
intresting !!!
As other folks have said, somebody needs to make a movie about this. I mean, this is something straight out of a James Bond/Jason Bourne world.

Persona Pat I would totally watch that. It would be an interesting movie. A lot better than that Sci-Fi idea.
Biography movie would be interested
I’ll pass . I’d love to see more games and movies not so Tetris. Sounds so boring
6 years later and it turns out that the Tetris movie is actually based on the story of securing the rights to the game.
This comment certainly aged well.

Lol, is that a mouse cursor? Talk about an oversight.
I hope someone got fired for that blunder.
This is a Russian game. It should be banned.
