They install temporary “go around” pipes to keep whatever flows through still flowing through as if nothing ever happened at all. Lots and lots of careful planning goes into it. Fascinating stuff!

My great grandmother used to put fat and grease down there. 50 years later, it was a VERTICAL pipe, FULL! SOLID! w the old grease!! Not cheap to cut the pipe out, buddy rate or not.
Not really necessary. They build in " pig " launching stations at different spots along the line and then it's just a matter of pressure pushing the pig, not pulling it with cable. This is a post construction cleanup and won't be done like this again on that section of line.

But if you do find a can of okra, save the slimy juice from the can and put only the juice in a clogged toilet. Give it about two hours to do its magic. Usually you don't even have to flush. But do flush anyway 😅
