In the fullness of time, the mainstream handling of chronic Lyme disease will be viewed as one of the most shameful episodes in the history of medicine because elements of academic medicine, elements of government and virtually the entire insurance industry have colluded to deny a disease.
This has resulted in needless suffering of many individuals who deteriorate and sometimes die for lack of timely application of treatment or denial of treatment beyond some arbitrary duration.

10000000% JP!!! I have chronic Lyme and have been treated like crap in the past 12 years. I have had doctors laugh at me, ignore me and speak only to my husband, and tell me there is no such thing as Lyme in the south (born and raised in MD). I am still so sick and was in bed all day today with excruciating pain in my neck and both arms. I almost went to the ER but knew they wouldn't help me. I have been avoiding going back to another doctor because it costs so much money.
Colluded in exactly what has happened!!! Two words, Plum Island.
