  • Matt Hall's plane touched the surface of the Detroit River, with his wings and right wheel splashing off the top of the water. The Australian quickly recovered and returned safely to the Race Airport in his slightly damaged airplane.

    Superb pilot, especially for holding his hand up and admitting it was his own error. Good Man.

      @stijnvandamme76 3 года назад

      Well it's not like he has much of a choice innit.
      Can't blame a copilot and clearly the plane had no control problem to get in that bad place

    • @anonimous_user7318
      @anonimous_user7318 Год назад

      He could have blamed wake turbulence from his own aircraft, but that's besides the point. His quick diagnosis of the situation is accurate, he draws his conclusions for the next time (lest there is one), and he sets out his plan to deal with the consequences of his mistake. More than just admitting his mistake, he comes off as frank, level-headed, and professional in the face of a very lucky accident. Fantastic pilot.

    As a seaplane pilot, I’ve landed on water a bunch of times...obviously. Water is really hard,especially at that speed. There’s many examples of airplanes with landing gear touching down on water and skipping along then taking back off.
    Okay I’ll give you one thing. If he hadn’t leveled the wings it would have rolled into a ball, so he does get credit for situational awareness, wings level, tail low.
    It looked worse than it actually was. Again we land on water all the time.
