- This is how Peter Besenyei flew an Extra 300 over the downtown of Budapest during the Nagy Futam II. (Great Race II.) air show on the 1st of May.

Phenomenal and instinctual aviating but I’m less impressed by the passes under the bridge with a height of around 3x the wing span than I am by him taking off from the bridge with cables and pillars inches off each wingtip!

What are you talking about? That bridge has a width of twice the wingspan of the aircraft. There is absolutely no difficulty to the stunt if you can call it a stunt.
Some pretty relaxed laws in Budapest....what other urban centers would allow this lunacy I wonder??
Imo this isn't as impressive to me considering the road is literally wider than the plane is and the cables had a safe distance between the pilot and the bridge structure
@@robertmuckle2985 unfortunately in today's society all it takes is money. A company with the kind of money that the Red Bull name is tied to has the kind of money that it takes to allow the pilot to do those stupid stunts. My opinion is that the risk the pilot is taking is absolutely not worth the effort. Now if the aircraft used was anything other than some little RV-8 or Hardmon Rocket and a bridge that is not only lower to the water line and only a two car total width, then the pilot is starting to get into the same skill level and difficulty as some of the pilots back in the early days of stunt aviation. Those barnstorming pilots from the WWI and WWII era using surplus military aircraft were real stunt and just plain crazy ass pilots. I would like to see the Red Bull pilot do some of the stunts those pilots did on a regular basis.
Congrats for Besenyei Péter, he made Hungary the country of professional aviators.
In most countries of the world, regulations would make this impossible. The governing bodies trust this man. Excellent skills. Don't know why the sponsor gets the biggest name on the plane but yet...

Getting the authorizations for passing under the bridge is possible in many places, as you stay above the river, but you need to convince the authorities it is worth stopping the traffic (which is not easy...). However, the take off just in front of the public would be strictly forbidden almost anywhere... air shows must be parallel to the crowd. Given the record of horrific accidents I wonder how the can be stupid enough to do this.

That was a "Forward Slip"
@@jonlocke5365 Knife Edge is where the wings are vertical from the ground. In knife edge, the horizontal elevator acts as the rudder, and rudder acts as the elevator. This was a Forward slip, not Knife Edge

E quase enlouqueci quando ele executou uma das últimas manobras mostradas nesse vídeo, onde ele simula um veículo derrapando em pleno ar. Nunca pensei que isso pudesse ser feito. Minha admiração e meu respeito a um dos maiores pilotos que eu já vi voar.

Did he get sideways under that bridge? Is air drifting going to be the next thing? I was expecting to hear "Deja Vu."
Its called a Forward Slip and yes it is a thing. Although most pilots use a forward slip to lose altitude while keeping same speed. Also can be used to reduce speed and keep same glide slope on landing. By turning the aircraft sideways like that, cause drag and ergo slows the plane down.
